Anyone care to give decorating advice? This is about DS's new room, but it's basically a nursery because he's still in a crib 😋 This rug was given to us by my parents and it's been in the room since we've been using it as an office. To keep things cheaper, I'm going to keep it for DS and base everything else off of it. The room is quite sunny with an East facing window. I'm debating what colour to paint the walls. I was thinking navy blue? Or an off-white on every wall? I was also considering one orange feature wall (too much orange?) Or just one wall navy and the rest white?

mintyblueair, it’s a beautiful carpet. I don’t love orange ever so I’m biased but I’m sure you could find a lovely shade. I am currently in love with navy and that would be nice. If it were me, I’d paint the room yellow with that carpet.

I love that rug! I’m a fan of neutral walls and adding pops of color with decor, so I’d probably go with off-white walls and trying to find decor with orange or red details to match the rug.

mintyblueair, I like the rug! I personally wouldn't do orange, but that's because I find it hard to find a shade that's not too harsh. Yellow would probably be a good choice.

Thanks for the input! leatherpants, clementine, auriMy husband vetoed navy blue and I think I agree about the orange being too much or too hard to find the right shade... I was just at home Depot and I grabbed bunch of off-white, cream, and yellow paint chips. I'm excited to actually make a choice and get the ball rolling with setting this room up!

Project nursery decor has begun over here. On the list is: Industrial pipe shelf/banner combo like this: I have frames, but I need to find some cute prints and little knick knacks. Book page print like this: And then some kind of navy/white/gray reclaimed wood piece I have yet to figure out. These 2 months are going to fly by.

mintyblueair, late to the party but I really like that rug! I would have liked a dark blue with that but I think it would have been hard to pull off in a smaller room. Offwhite or cream sounds like a nice second choice....maybe you could do navy linens and accents. We spent yesterday clearing out crap in the nursery and DH and DS put the crib together! Exciting. I ordered the window treatments, which are being custom made by my FIL's wife, and I think next weekend we will touch up the trim paint and buy a dresser from Ikea. Starting to come together

clementine I had to show my H that sandlot sign, it's one of his favorite movies and I know he'll die to have that in the nursery! Meanwhile, I'm dying for this sign to hang over the crib-

calendula, thanks for your thoughts! I agree navy would have been nice in the walls. But my husband was convinced it would look too dark. I'm thinking I'll do navy curtains and a navy sheet for his crib. I also have some gold accent things that I think will look nice.

No plans yet because we don't know what this baby is yet. The baby will be going into the room DD is now which is super girly. She will be moving into the guest room and the bed in there will be moved into the office. So right now my planning is focused on DD's big girl room but I am struggling finding the energy to move the rooms around. This is where I'm at. We're mostly recycling everything in DS' nursery for DS2 and upgrading DS1 to a big kid room, so I have spent most of my energy researching toddler beds and bedding, and new storage he won't hurt himself on. The things he'll take with him have the makings of a bold teal, green, blue, yellow scheme with lots of patterns and some jungle animals. I love the idea of doing something like this colorful geometric accent wall: DS2 will be in our room for several months before we play musical rooms, so we'll prioritize getting DS1's room and the guest room up to snuff. The nursery stuff we have is mostly white and yellow and I'm getting him some new light blue sheets. Might get some hot air balloon art or mobile like this... link

I like the suggestions of playing off the yellow. I think I'd do either white walls with a yellow accent wall, or yellow walls with a navy accent wall. I think all navy is gorgeous but may be too heavy for a nursery. If you kept the walls light you could focus on doing orange and navy for the furniture and accents like sheets, glider, curtains, pillows.
