It's too quiet around here. Let's get talking. What is your favorite book or series? (I swear if every answer is HP I will GBCHIH. ) What was your least favorite book you had to read for school? What was one book you read that stuck with you? Are you reading anything now? Do you prefer ereaders, paper books, or audiobooks? What is your favorite genre?

What is your favorite book or series? Sorry to kick it off this way sheilathetank, but HP is definitely one of my favorite. Also the ASOIAF series, Hunger Games, all of Dan Brown's books (except Lost Symbol). Hot Zone, Memoirs of a Geisha, and The Other Boleyn Girl are other books I've read more times than I can count. What was your least favorite book you had to read for school? Too many to remember specifics. I always seemed to dislike books I was forced to read. What was one book you read that stuck with you? Nothing I can really think of. I pretty much read only for entertainment purposes. I generally don't read things that are going to have an impact on my life. Are you reading anything now? Yup! A Feast for Crows - Book 4 of ASOIAF. I also need to pick up the new Dan Brown book that just came out since I'm almost done with A Feast for Crows and I like to read something unrelated between ASOIAF books. Do you prefer ereaders, paper books, or audiobooks? I was so anti-ereader when they came out, but now I love my Kindle and prefer to read on that. Unfortunately that means buying both the hard copy book and ereader version for book series I already own some of the hard copies for because I can't handle not having a complete collection. What is your favorite genre? Adventure/SciFi/Dystopian/Fantasy/Young Adult books that fall under the same

What is your favorite book or series? Tamora Pierce's Tortall books. My favorite series being Kel's. I wrote my senior symposium in high school comparing her Kel and Alanna series and how they mirrored the classic Hero's Journey.
What was your least favorite book you had to read for school? Tess of the D'urbervilles. OMFG this book. I went to an all girl's Catholic school and they pushed feminism/strong female characters hard. But this book, jaysus. It should just say "Trigger Warning" on the cover. If I had to read it now I would cry for days. DAYS. Everything awful that could ever happen to someone happens to this woman. ****TW**** cow dies, gets raped, has baby from rapist, baby dies, husband leaves her on their wedding night when he finds out she was raped, has to go live with rapist, murders rapist, executed for murder. ***end TW***
What was one book you read that stuck with you? Other than the one above, the book "Things fall apart". I realized how awful religion was. I read it in high school (big surprise) and everyone in class was ooh and ahhing over how much the missionaries saved these people and there I am livid at how horrible they were for destroying an entire way of life. I'm pretty sure it gave me the strength to walk away from the religion I was raised on.
Are you reading anything now? I usually listen to audiobooks in the car, but I've been on a break. I really loved Year of Wonders, but it made me sob for days. It was so well written but omfg did it kill me. I had to take a break after that. Oh and I have a toddler behavior book that's been on my nightstand for weeks and I'm like a quarter of the way through. One day I'll finish it. Probably when my kid is no longer a toddler.
Do you prefer ereaders, paper books, or audiobooks? audiobooks because I can listen to them in the car. I find it increasingly difficult to read a physical book now. I used to read all the time.
What is your favorite genre? I prefer young adult novels since they are light reads, but with the popularization of the YA series (hunger games, twilight, maze runner etc.) a lot of what is out there is garbage. I focus now on historical fiction, and I really really like it, but it can be very heavy. I love Lisa See and Geraldine Brooks.

I read a lot for entertainment as well, but sometimes there are books that after I finish I go "wow, that was something." Same with really good movies.

What is your favorite book or series? Well, Harry Potter for sure (sorry!), but I also enjoyed the Myron Bolitar series by Harlan Coben. They're all who done it type books, nothing spectacular, but they're fun to read. He also has a bunch of stand alone books that I also enjoy. What was your least favorite book you had to read for school? I think I blocked out most of the books I read in high school. What was one book you read that stuck with you? I'm drawing a blank here for some reason. Are you reading anything now? No Do you prefer ereaders, paper books, or audiobooks? Because little kids make it impossible to keep anything on a shelf, ereaders. I have a couple boxes full of books that I don't have a place for thanks to my kids. What is your favorite genre? Mystery and YA. I like quick and easy reads.

Who can have a favorite book? It really depends on my mood! I reread anything by Austen a lot though or Jane Eyre or the Anne of Green Gables series. But seriously I get in moods so I can’t have a favorite book.
I hated Ivanhoe. That book was so dull and it felt like it took forever to read it. The descriptions were never ending.
It Was Me All Along really stuck with me for a time. But when I read it the second time, it mostly struck me as though the writer were incredibly selfish. I should have only read it once.
I am actually reading a couple things right now, most actively Anne of the Island. I prefer paperbacks. We have 3 bookcases in our house and are running out of room. H keeps (jokingly) insisting I stop buying books. I don’t have a favorite genre either. I like chick lit, YA, some dystopian, history (both fiction and non-fiction), mystery, suspense, crime, parenting, biographies. All books big and small. I love books like The Outliers too.

What is your favorite book or series? I can't pick one! I can narrow it down to 5: The Little Prince, Alice in Wonderland, The Autobiography of Malcolm X, The Turn of the Screw, The 13th Tale.
What was your least favorite book you had to read for school? The Scarlet Letter. And because I moved I had to read it twice because of different curriculum in different states! I really dislike Hester Prynne as a character.
What was one book you read that stuck with you? A Brave New World. It made me want to go into law and work with bioethical issues.
Are you reading anything now? Going to the library this morning to pick up Eligible and Moonglow.
Do you prefer ereaders, paper books, or audiobooks?ereaders. I like to read before bed, and this way I don't have to turn the light off when I'm done. Plus when we travel I don't need to worry about running out of books.
What is your favorite genre?ummmmm fiction? Twisted narratives? (Stories you know turned on their heads) I dunno. I'm kind of all over the place. I like sci fi, chick lit, historical fiction, psychological dramas, period pieces....

He said as long as it fit the subject and it was my own work then sure. Total win on that one.

What is your favorite book or series?
My favourite book is probably The Idiot by Dostoevsky. Though that answer would vary a bit depending on the day.
My favourite series of books is the Gormenghast trilogy by Mervyn Peake.
What was your least favorite book you had to read for school?
Living by Henry Green. He had a distinctive modernist style that for me was almost unreadable.
What was one book you read that stuck with you?
Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys. It is memorable for me because of the way it portrayed an intensity of hatred and anguish, but it is so understated and beautiful at the same time. There is one scene that moved me to tears so unexpectedly. I'll never forget it.
Are you reading anything now?
Yes, I'm reading I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb. My mom has recommended it to me for years. I'm really enjoying it, it's the kind of book that is hard to put down.
Do you prefer ereaders, paper books, or audiobooks?
Paper books. I just cannot read from a screen.
What is your favorite genre?
I don't read a lot of genre fiction and stuck mostly to realist novels. I do enjoy some science fiction and thrillers, though.

I don't know that I have a single one. I like Gregory Maguire, Stephanie Barron, the Looking Glass Wars, Mists of Avalon, all those "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" type books...

What is your favorite book or series? Definitely Pride and Prejudice - I like Jane Austen in general. Also, HP is a great series.
What was your least favorite book you had to read for school? Scarlett Letter or Grendel (a modern take on Beowulf)...both sucked and I hated reading them.
What was one book you read that stuck with you? I really enjoyed the Joy Luck Club - I loved all the strong female characters. The Giver was another one that I remember from middle school.
Are you reading anything now? Not at the moment, but I did read The Handmaid's Tale a month ago - which I found to be a very relevant and important book.
Do you prefer ereaders, paper books, or audiobooks? Ereaders or paper books are good - i don't have a strong preference. I don't like audio books - I find I will tune out to them while multitasking.
What is your favorite genre? I like non-fiction a lot. Historical fiction is more up my alley too.

What is your favorite book or series? That would be like picking my favorite kid if I had more than one. Probably the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. What was your least favorite book you had to read for school? Catcher in the Rye. I might be biased because even almost 20 years later, I can still remember my English teacher going on and on about the red hat. What was one book you read that stuck with you? I honestly can't think of one. Are you reading anything now? Do gluten-free cookbooks count? I haven't done much reading for fun since DS was born. Do you prefer ereaders, paper books, or audiobooks? Depends on my mood. I love the convenience of my Kindle, but there's nothing quite like a real paper book. Audiobooks just don't do anything for me because I have some auditory processing issues. What is your favorite genre? Fantasy.

Taitai I really liked Grendel. I was a goth kid in high school though so the themes of good Vs evil and the antihero really spoke to me. I For those of you who like YA and dystopian novels, I remember ed last night that I had recently finished The Jewel trilogy. It's about girls who are forced into a surrogacy by the wealthy class. Sorta like a lighter version of the Handmaid's Tale. I was surprised by how much I liked it. It was a different concept then your typical dystopian novels. Keep in mind that it is a YA book so there were times I was screaming at the radio in my car because they would be so immature sometimes in their relationships.

What is your favorite book or series? - I’m incapable of picking a favorite. I love Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, and Rainbow Rowell. My comfort author is Anne McCaffrey, especially Crystal Singer trilogy and anything Pern.
What was your least favorite book you had to read for school? - The Bear by William Faulkner.
What was one book you read that stuck with you? - Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam trilogy. I’m not sure I recommend but it was something else, for sure. Stephen King’s Dark Tower series.
Are you reading anything now? - I just finished Modern Lovers by Emma Straub (sp?). DS picked it out from the library recommended shelf. I’m also reading How to Talk so Little Kids Will Listen.
Do you prefer ereaders, paper books, or audiobooks? - ereader
What is your favorite genre? - women’s fiction, probably. I also like fantasy, thriller, romance... basically any fiction other than historical.

I had so much fun reading it this time through. I need to find time to re-read now that I can do it from beginning to end--I read the first 8 in high school and then each one after that as it came out. They were definitely the series that got me interested in fantasy books!

I just find the writing style of the times to be so boring. A lot of descriptive narrative that just goes on for forever. I got the Halloween tree on Audiobook. So far it's good except the narrator whispers at points for dramatic effect and I can't hear it half the time due to road noise. It's annoying.

What is your favorite book or series? Wuthering Heights and a memoir titled, In Pharaoh's Army are my favorite books. I'm also quite enjoying the Outlander series. And as a teenager, I devoured the Sweep series of YA books about witches. What was your least favorite book you had to read for school? Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad What was one book you read that stuck with you? Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson Are you reading anything now? Voyager, the third Outlander book & Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Won't Stop Talking. I also just picked up the newest novel, Wonder, from the author who wrote Room. I'm looking forward to starting that. Do you prefer ereaders, paper books, or audiobooks? Paper books, generally. I love audiobooks for my commute. And e-books for smut What is your favorite genre? Fiction, YA, memoir, suspense - I love it all. I liked the Outlander series except..... for all the inappropriate sex. At first it was hot and then it got really old really fast. There was a breaking point for me, but I'm not sure that you've gotten to that point yet and I don't want to spoil it. I think I got to the fifth book and then was like "i'm done. I do not care about these people anymore." I also HATED the second book. The third was by far my favorite.

I've listened to them all on audio, and I'm getting through the third much faster. Please, feel free to spoil. I'd love to hear more about what you mean, and I don't mind. I also listened to them on audio book. I will never get the narrator saying "ohhhhh Claire" out of my head. Made for interesting stops at traffic lights. lol I forget the details why, but Jamie goes out during a snow storm, and he throws out his back. Claire finds him and it's now really cold and dark. Like hypothermia conditions. She can't move him so logically, the next best thing would be to have sex with him, while he's stuck in the snow and can't even get up because of his back. There was so much wtf at that scene and I distinctly remember yelling at the radio in my car. Oh and they both orgasm, because of course they do. Every. Single. Time.

I quit on Outlander halfway through the second book... maybe I should have pushed through if the third is so much better. I agree about the ridiculous sex scenes, though--they got old extremely quickly. Sex with someone stuck in the snow with a sore back is beyond ridiculous, though! sheilathetank, your description made me LOL

If I was you I'd Wikipedia the ending and just get to the 3rd. I wish I had done that. I'm finally getting to a point where I no longer force myself to finish a book I don't like. I have precious little time and I'm not spending it forcing my way through something that brings me no joy, especially when it's not for a class or anything.

I’m slowly emerging from first tri hell and trying to jump back in over here.
What is your favorite book or series? My all time favorite is Little Women. I could read that book forever and ever (and have over 50 times)
What was your least favorite book you had to read for school? I don’t recall a least favorite book, but I hated plays. I was SO SHY and my 12th grade English teacher made me read Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion in front of the whole class. Accent and all. I was mortified.
What was one book you read that stuck with you? A Man Called Ove. There was something about that book that resonated with me and I recommend it to everyone. I also just read The Versions of Us for the November book discussion on media board, and I’ve been thinking about it for days. Can’t wait to discuss that one.
Are you reading anything now? The third book in the Cormoran Strike series, Career of Evil. It’s taking me forever because I get about 10 minutes a day to read and I usually fall asleep mid chapter.
Do you prefer ereaders, paper books, or audiobooks? I love real books, but almost exclusively read on my ereader. I mostly read in bed in the dark, so I like the backlit screen. We travel a lot, so it’s easier than lugging a million books. It was also great during breastfeeding (and will be again) because you don’t have to hold the pages open!
What is your favorite genre? Definitely crime thrillers and mystery. When I need something lighter, I like realistic fiction in the vein of Jodi Picoult, Liane Moriarty, etc.
