I also can't afford the new houses in our area. Seriously what do these people do for a living? On second thought, prob not marry a firefighter 😕 My next husband will be rich!I used to say this, too. But...he is not. His parents are though. Lol!

Hey ladies! Just checking in after a busy day. I'm absolutely exhausted. But DH wanted to attempt bedtime with H (he really needs to get used to people other than me) so I'm relaxing in a bath for a while.
Re houses. Our house is semi-detached and 1800 square feet. TINY yard. And 20 years old. We paid 277 for it (still worth roughly the same). Housing is semi-reasonable here. Location is a big part of our price (we are center city - minutes from the mall, hospital, and university - prime location). Our next house will be just outside the city (I'll still be able to get to work in 20 minutes so no big deal) and we'll get a lot more house for the same price.

I didn't realize that you had to pay for an HOA so $1200 a month is making my chin hit the floor. My antisocial tendencies are not helping though because I would end up never using the pool or clubhouse.
I'm not exactly positive but I think even for what we paid for our house we got a bargain for the amount of square footage and acreage we have.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Everything is cheaper in Texas! We were looking at houses in Sugarland (before Beyoncé) and could've gotten 5k sq ft for what I paid for my current house! It was an up and coming area!
SIL2 is being induced in a week. They are doing a membrane sweep on Monday and if nothing happens, she'll be induced Friday at 39 weeks. She told DH that it's because GD and that they are worried he'll be too big! He's 2lbs lighter than L was, is getting stuck possible on a smaller baby? or is because the mom is smaller? I'm worried and confused!

Ok here's one. I mean, it has a tasting room and wine cellar. Clearly that's where we would be hanging out. My real estate brain is so warped from living here the last 9 years. Because, my first thought was... All that for 1.95M?! That's insane. A complete steal! Check out this listing, just around the corner from me for 1.7M (Disclaimer: we didn't even spend half that for my house, TO is just that varied and that crazy of a market) Also, PDQ, I will poof this and your listing @ww later.

hangry, that house is pretty though! But TO is definitely insanely expensive. Whenever I watch Property Brothers I'm always shocked at much a fixer upper house costs there. This was several years ago now, but I was watching House Hunters and one episode was in San Jose, CA and another was in Carmel, IN and both couples had a 1M budget. The Carmel people got a giant 6 bed, 6 bath 7,000 sqft new build for $900k while the San Jose person got... a house. I mean, it was a fine house, it even had a pool, but it wasn't anything special and certainly not what you expect from a 1mil home.

Cheshie6, I don't have any experience with that but I'm sure it varies from doctor to doctor and patient to patient. I remember one of my friends being induced at 38 weeks with her 3rd, but she had a history of big babies (her 2nd was almost 11lb!). I hope the membrane sweep does the trick and everything goes smoothly gor your SIL!

Cheshie6 those weight estimates can vary big time and in the last weeks babies can gain 1+ pounds a week up until the placenta start to deteriorate. I think they just sometimes like to get those GD babies out so safely on their watch because they need some extra monitoring for awhile. Edit: I hope she has a wonderful experience and a smooth birth!!

I can't believe that was all us around this time last year. Fall is a little extra sweet when I think about it because of all the anticipation this time of year held for me all last spring and summer.

I feel like we have crazy property taxes. Like, before we moved, we could get a house for about $250k and pay about 8-9k in taxes. So we switched counties and we just built a house for about $300 and pay around $5k. I don't know how that compares to other areas.

Usually I see about $2,500-$4,000 in property taxes around here. Some areas have closer to $4,500 but I don't usually see too much higher than that.

I am not looking at those links bc I'll be depressed about my search over here. Oh wait, I already am. We are destined to be house poor. I guess paying for a school district is considerably cheaper than 12 years of private school, but oof. Or I will have such a long commute I'll never get home in time for evenings. PDQ: here's a good example of what we are working with - www.redfin.com/MD/Bethesda/5718-Massachusetts-Ave-20816/home/10656962I do think it's pretty cute, just would prefer to pay half that. Especially with that kitchen.. EtA: that's like one of the few under a million..and the cheapest SFH... and condo and townhomes have stupid high HOAs.

Ugh my stupid phone has been dumb for the past hour. The pop-up keyboard stopped working so I couldn't respond or search.
I looked through all the houses though! I like the Detroit one. I didn't know houses like that were down there. H said that's one of the nicest neighborhoods there.
There are some huge lake houses just 5 minutes away from where I live. It's amazing how much of a price difference there is when the house is on a lake. And I've seen taxes that are more expensive than my current mortgage. I can't even imagine!

tallb, I'm sorry but I agree with you. I'd ask for a $600k because you'd have to pay $150k to update and expand that kitchen LOL (I watch too many DIY shows and helped my BFF find a house)

Beyonce bought a $6m house in Sugarland, TX but I believe after news got out, (supposedly Jay-Z starting being a better husband) it was then reported that it was going to her mom Tina.

I'd ask for a $600k because you'd have to pay $150k to update and expand that kitchen LOL (I watch too many DIY shows and helped my BFF find a house) It has potential! It's cheaper bc it's on a main artery into the city. I actually like that it needs updates, if I could afford to do them after getting in. That electric stove though 😣
