We have 3 names we both like and a middle name picked out. I'm pushing my #1 and I think it's what will happen. We won't tell family/friends prior to birth. Do not want unsolicited "better" suggestions!

We haven't really broached the subject yet because I know we'll have trouble deciding - boy names were harder for us the first time around too, though I love the name we picked for DS (Oliv.er). The "rules" we have are the first name is 3 syllables and doesn't start with D. Middle name for #2 will be Sc.ott (family name). Some names left over from deciding #1 (but none I'm dead set on) are: Elijah, Nathaniel, Theodore, Everett, Gabriel, Isaiah. Nathaniel is DS1's name so I'm partial. Oliver is such a great name. I actually suggested that one and Gabriel for DS1 and H vetoed them. So sad he won't change his mind about them for #2.

We won't tell family/friends prior to birth. Do not want unsolicited "better" suggestions! We do this too - though I don't mind telling internet strangers. MIL had all sorts of comments about SIL's choices for her first two so that pretty much sealed the deal when we got pregnant with DD.

Do not want unsolicited "better" suggestions! We'll keep it/them a secret too. I had a little hesitation even putting our options on here, but since we haven't seriously discussed or decided... there they are! Luckily no one really pushes us or bugs us about wanting to know, same with being team green. Our immediate families are team green supportive.

Our anatomy scan is next week so we will find out the sex and go from there. We do have a boys middle name picked out but no first names.
I have my list of names from last time. I'm not sure about the boys names but I still have a lot of girls names I like. We were team green the last time and left it until the last minute. This time I think we'll have two or three favorites and see what the baby is like when they come out.

I named DD (Ell.ie Gr.ace, goes by both names), so I let H name this baby. He chose Sam.uel Gray.son and I love it. He will go by Gray.son which was on my short list of choices so it worked out.

We have Evelyn decided and are tossing around the middle name Grace. I love the combination and so does H, or at least I think he does. He kind of tends to agree with what I say.

cythe - I also love that name too! So pretty and classic. Add us to keeping the name secret from everyone until after the birth. Both our families were absolutely obsessed with finding out DS' name beforehand, which I found really weird. I was not expecting them to care so much - we have very traditional name taste, so it's not like they needed to be worried. At MIL's request, my FIL actually called DH incessantly while I was in labor to make sure we weren't going to use a certain middle name that MIL had "issues with." DH only answered his phone because he thought there must have been a bonafide emergency for FIL to call 5 times in a row when he and MIL knew I was in labor. NOPE - just worried about the friggin' name. [insert hardest eye roll ever here] So this time - yeah - not telling anyone and we've made it clear that it's not a topic we are going to discuss - ever. So far nobody has brought it up - thank goodness! We also don't have a name picked out yet, because we're procrastinators. Should get on that...

Wow Taitai, that is crazy. We also don't share the name prior to birth and DH's family was pretty curious but not to that extent, for sure.

I want to name our daughter Abbey. My H thinks "Abbey" is a nickname and prefers to name her Abigail but I don't love Abigail at all. I also don't understand the point of middle names. I've never used mine in my life and my name is Jennifer which was very common in the 80s.

I'll play: I'm really leaning toward So.phie Eliz.abeth for this one (DD is Al.ice Vict.oria). MH is on board, but my biggest hurdle with him is that he thinks Sophie is a nickname for Sophia, when they are actually just two variations of the same name. I like how Nameberry put it: "Sophie is Sophia's cuter, more irreverent near-identical twin... Sophie is lively and down-to-earth, while Sophia is more sophisticated and buttoned-up." To me, Sophia sounds like an old lady! (The irony here is that this is exactly how the name is said in Ukrainian, but that's... different.) Maybe this is super nitpicky of me, but MH wants to put Sophia on the birth certificate and just call her Sophie, which to me is stupid. I think he's looking at it like naming a boy Michael and calling him Mikey, but it's not! Arrrgh.

seventythree, in middle and high school I had a friend named Sof.ie (her parents were from Denmark) and I remember being jealous of her name thinking it was super cute.

Taitai we didn't tell anyone I was in labor with DD and the only people that will know this time is whoever is going to watch DD. I honestly didn't want the calls/texts asking if she was here yet

I honestly didn't want the calls/texts asking if she was here yet That's a really good idea. I think we're going to do that this time. I just have to tell DH to resist the urge to email everyone. Our nanny will watch DS when I go into labor, so it's not like anyone else really has to know.

I was in labor with DD for 33 hrs and we didn't tell anyone until an hour or so after she was born. It was nice having the time with just us before our phones started blowing up.

Tell me honestly if this is terrible. H and I throw names at each other jokingly all the time and i suggested Thackery, like from Hocus Pocus as a joke, but we both admitted to each other last night that we actually really like it. Is that an awful thing to name my son? Will he hate me?

trinitrotoluene I googled it and it's an English based name I can't say whether or not he'll like or dislike the name, but if it's something you and your H agree on and both like I say go for it. My H and I are naming sequel Caelum which isn't exactly typical...

Is that an awful thing to name my son? Will he hate me? It's an actual name, so I see nothing wrong with it. Just be prepared to explain to people, "no, his name isn't Zachary" and to have to spell it all the time. Take it from someone who has spent a lifetime spelling her name for people, it's annoying, but I do love my name and wouldn't change it for anything.
