Not nursing is going great... she's been up since 11, I caved at 1 and she's been screaming for over and hour, just because she's mad. I feel for our neighbors...

tgrimes interesting about the speech 'delay'. Is he babbling at all? Does he respond to his name, loud noises, etc? Did he pass his hearing check at birth? I'm surprised they'd go straight to "delayed speech" at 9/10 mo old unless you're seeing those red flags with his hearing. I would probably still have him checked by an ENT/audiologist, if for nothing else but peace of mind. B's hearing was at only 40% capacity pre-tubes, and he had no history of EIs, but he is at 100% now. It shocked me at the time bc he seemed to hear ok and understand us, but they described it as being underwater--everything sounded really muffled and unclear to him. He was 15 mo at that point and I was pretty confident his speech was delayed, but was surprised that it was his ears due to his history (or lack thereof). I was telling MH about B's situation without having any EIs. I couldn't get an appt till oct 27. He may need tubes due to the amount of EIs but it would be good to check his hearing before it gets cold outside, kwim? He passed the newborn hearing test and she may be overly cautious since the palate specialist said to keep an eye on any speech issues. Who knows? It just gives me something else to worry about, right?

Yep, I hear you. My grandfather used to say, "It's always something", and now we quote him all the time...it's so true.
On the positive side, at least you know he passed the newborn test so you have a 'baseline' if there IS a hearing issue. Hopefully if you do have to do tubes that will take care of his ear infection issue, whether or not there are speech issues.

tgrimes I hope they can get his tubes in before the cold weather kicks in. I hope his hearing is fine but like other have said if it's from the ei it can be reversed.

LOVE the name Quinn. Also love the name Lennon. Not that it's on your list, but just throwing it out there. Both of these are cute. We considered Quinn for a girl name, even though I usually prefer very feminine names.

tgrimes I'm so sorry. You have so much to deal with right now. I'll echo others though in saying that Landon did not talk much until he finally got Tubes in.

Birthday party question: how likely are you to attend a birthday party for a 4 year old if it is from 10-12 on a Sunday morning? I was originally planning on the Saturday before, but the spots have been taken. Very likely. I like getting parties out of the way and still having the rest of the day. This. If it's anytime between noon and 3-4 I think no way, not screwing with naptime.

Smudge studios. They have a splatter paint party option for their age group. Cadence is pretty excited about it.

I was able to read everything yesterday, but I couldn't find time to respond. I'm sorry that you have something else added to your plate, tgrimes. I hope the ENT is able to put you at ease. @nam, wishing you a very restful day full of caffeine. I hope tonight goes better. Josie did wonderfully yesterday. I was super nervous after a full summer together that she would miss me, but she was all smiles at pick up. She did have homework last night – to fill in and color a little booklet about her. I tried to do it with her as soon as we got home, but she was pooped. I don't like the idea of preschool homework.

We had to make a 'scrapbook' page with pictures/things about our family the first week of school last year, and then that was it...nothing else was ever sent home to do. It was just a way for the teachers to get to know the children, and then it was bound into their year-end booklet with all their art projects, etc. So hopefully this is just a one-time thing; I would not be excited about homework at this age, either.

Last year it was a letter page each week to color in and trace, but a big reminder that it was optional. This was a little for page booklet that said please bring this back in tomorrow. I hope it's not a sign of what's to come.

Last week they sent home an all about me page for us to fill in/color together, but we didn't have to return it until today. He does get a practice worksheet weekly for the letter of the week, but it's just for at home. It doesn't have to be returned.
