B wants to be a thunderstorm? He loves thunder and lightning so I searched Pinterest and found a few ideas.

J and O are going to be batman and robin. L has been wanting to be Branch for months. No costumes exist so I'm making it. Who knew O's plagiocephaly mold and helmet would come in handy lol S wants to be some sort of cat princess queen thing so I'm supposed to find some flowy black dress for her?

I'm excited to try to make something cool. His first 2 halloweens were a total bust. He kind of knows what's happening this year though.

I have the white base for the boys' dog costumes.
Questions:
1. They need tails. How would you do this? Newfs have super big fluffy tails.
2. Kid safe face paint. I'm going to paint a nose and such for R.

sarenu that looks totally like our dog's tail. Aside from the rainbow of course. lol. And it would be easy to get both colors. Thanks!

I'm going to paint a nose and such for R. Snazaroo is what I use when I face-paint. You can buy kits at Michael's or JoAnn fabric. It's non-toxic and hypoallergenic and water-based, so it dries and doesn't smear unless it gets wet. It will fade, though, if it gets rubbed on too much. Honestly though if you just need black, waterproof liquid eyeliner is awesome- just paint it on and once it dries, it'll stay until you wash it off.

How do I get R's hair to be dark brown? She's blonde and the costume would be so much better with brown hair. Is there a temporary hair dye I can use?

I quicky read this and missed 'costume' and was slightly horrified that you wanted to dye her hair because you thought she'd look better as a brunette. Ha. I mean that's very unlike you so I figured I misread, but for a split second there my judgy pants were on.

But I promise it's for her Aviva costume

I just found out that for the first time since H was born, A doesn't have a gig on Halloween! So now I can plan something.
Last year was our first year in our new house, and we only got a dozen trick or treaters. So this year we may all go out as a family!
I'm pretty excited to plan. H has decided he wants to be a butterfly with wings and a tutu. My feminist, gender-nonconforming self is so pleased.
No idea what M will be.

I have a pretty good inclination that DS is not going to wear his costume. He likes his character, but he hates to be directed about what to wear. I was planning on this being our first year out in the neighborhood but I’m not sure we will go out if he doesn’t put his costume on.

So I think we've abandoned the Game of Thrones costume theme because it would be too expensive and challenging to find the pieces for me and J unless we just wanted to be super basic dragons. So instead, we're going with a Zootopia theme and we're going to be Judy Hopps and Nick, and Nugget will be Lil Toot-toot (the little fox dude in the elephant suit at the beginning). She is super obsessed with the movie and the costumes shouldn't be too difficult to DIY. Just need to get some basic pieces and I can make ears and tails and accessories, and we can buy an elephant costume for Nugget. something like this: Might even make our dog Kara a Gazelle costume to wear, too.
