I want to book, or at least have a plan for a couple of activities outside of the resort for our Hawaii trip coming up.
Anyone have a luau that they'd recommend on Oahu? We're staying at Aulani, but we'll have a rental car so driving isn't a problem. The one that I went to a few years ago is now apparently only for military personnel, so that's out. I've been mostly debating between Chief's Luau and the Fia Fia show at the Marriot which would be a lot closer to us. Anyone been?
I was also thinking about going to the Dole Plantation. The reviews are only so-so on that though.

If I remember right, it's on the way to North Shore, so I feel like it would be a day trip with maybe another activity or a beach?

The cafe for lunch forgot my salad dressing so they gave me a free cookie; I had already bought one today! Lol

We did Hawaii on our honeymoon. We weren't going to, but the HR guy at H's office offered us their condo for a week and we couldn't turn it down. We spent most of the week in Kona on the Big Island, but we did two days on Oahu. Mostly because H is a huge history buff and there was no way we could go to Hawaii without seeing Pearl Harbor. I remember we ate a really nice dinner at a big hotel (not the pink one), but I am useless and can't remember the name. Unfortunately on our second day there was a huge accident on the main highway and we got tied up in it for so long we couldn't do much except get back to the hotel and grab our bags for our return flight. Edited to add: Funny story. The HR guy warned us if there was an earthquake in Japan, we should prepare for tsunami warnings in Hawaii. We laughed it off at the time. Well, the day we went to the volcano, we got back around dinner time and were at this restaurant (Jackie Rey's Ohana Grill, I remember because I love Lilo and Stitch lol) having some amazing food, and we see on the news there's an earthquake off the coast of Alaska. About ten minutes later, the warning sirens go off. The locals were completely non-plussed but I was getting so scared - the condo was right on the water. The restaurant was above the evacuation line so we could stay there until they closed, but then we had to go to the high ground - a Walmart parking lot. So we went in, bought some chocolate, and sat in the car until the all-clear came. Nothing happened. It's funny to me now, but it was not funny at the time

I'm lucky being on the west coast actually makes Hawaii fairly accessible. We wanted to take DD, but then wavered. After seeing her at the beach this weekend, we decided it would be easier/realistic to do now with one. We will probably go minimal and not really venture out like we normally do. We are thinking of trying to just go without a car and stay at a hotel within walking distance to the zoo and beach.

cakewench That reminds me, my H talked about wanting to go to Pearl Harbor! I will warn you when you take the shuttle boat to the Arizona Memorial, you don't get to spend a lot of time on it before they shuffle you onto the return boat. H stopped to listen to one of the rangers speak and was sad he didn't get to look around more before they made us get back on. Touring the USS Missouri is definitely worth it.

It's definitely touristy, but it was fun as something unique to do.

Board trip to Hawaii sounds like a good plan. 👍
Unfortunately, in reality my future holds nothing more exciting than a trip to the dentist. I went for my cleaning last week and I have a cracked filling. 😫 It's just occurred to me that I guess I should ask my OB about novacaine- that should be safe, right? I'm certainly not letting them drill without a painkiller!!

I'm certainly not letting them drill without a painkiller!! I went to the dentist for a regular cleaning right after I found out I was pregnant - my hygienist (who was 30+ weeks herself at the time) mentioned that if pain killers are needed they will start off with a smaller amount than usual, and that it's basically a toss-up between being in pain and stressed vs what might cross the placenta. Obviously talk to your OB and your dentist before the procedure, though. Edited to add: I should note I didn't need anything at the time that would require pain killers, we were just talking about oral health during pregnancy in general.

Anyone else get a bit more nervous driving while pregnant? Almost every day as I'm commuting home and pass an accident I think a bit about what would happen to the babies if I were to get into an accident.
Well yesterday I had seriously just been thinking about it and then the car in front of me hit the brakes and swerved a bit. When they got out of the way I could see there was something in the middle of our lane. Obviously I had hit the brakes but couldn't completely swerve into either of the lanes over without hitting someone and didn't want to completely slam on the brakes and get rear-ended so I ended up hitting this thing, it flew into the next lane over. It looked like a mangled up patio chair, it happened so quickly though I didn't really get a good look. It only hit my bumper and I was right before my exit so I just moved over and got off of the freeway like I normally would. It didn't do too much damage, it took the grill over my left fog light with it so we're just going to get 2 new ones.
Now I feel like I need to drive even more carefully. I'm just glad that thing didn't fly through my windshield!

Let's just make it a board trip We may have backed down from the idea again. it would be a lot to plan in the next 3 weeks and dh is not excited about the idea of a lap child for a 6 hr flight. Understandable since my lap is less available. We may just put it off for a year and go with DD in her own seat and a 9ish month old. And use the money right now toward a house improvement we should do. Damn being a responsible adult!!! We would still do a local trip to San Diego or Palm Speings or something for Labor Day with DD (and probably the dog)

Any chance you know what the stuff they used is called? I think my dentist just uses lidocaine. I sent an email to my OB, and after I hear back from him I plan to call my dentist to discuss further. I'd just put the work off until after baby arrives, but the way the filling is cracking it is actually threatening to break my tooth, which could lead to infection/ abscess. I think that sounds more dangerous than a little lidocaine? 🤔

Mine was similar where my last dentist missed this cavity on the X-ray last year and it had grown a lot, so we waited until 2nd tri when it's the safest. When he opened it up it was deeper than expected and he said much longer and it would have reached the nerve and I would have needed a root canal. I have another small one that we are putting off until after, but this one was serious enough it wasn't worth waiting. Definitely check with your OB though.

You know you're pregnant when you plan your meals around whether or not you have tums.
I left mine in my other purse. 😒

I actually had to have a root canal when pregnant with DD1 and they used a different numbing agent, not sure what it was called, I think it starts with a c and everything was fine.

What's everyone up to today?
I just saw Baby B kick from the outside twice! Baby A isn't as much of a mover, or maybe because of her position I just don't feel it much.
Heartburn is killing me today and I keep forgetting to bring my Pepcid to work. So I'm going to go to Target on my lunch and get some to keep here. I was planning to go to Spin class, but I can't handle fire burps all day long.

That is fun! Baby was moving a ton yesterday and I saw several kicks.
Today I'm home with DD. Just doing a diapers load while she naps and deciding whether to try to take her to the fair or just get errands done this afternoon

This heartburn is going to be the death of me. All day long the back of my throat has been on fire. I'm desperately thirsty but water activates it more than anything else. *whimper*

I've never had a problem with heartburn during pregnancy, but DD was bald as can be and barely has hair now at 21 months. Dh and I were the same way. Hugs to you ladies with babies that will have full heads of hair!
