I feel like I'm being tested to see when I will crack. First O of course. Then my sister goes into cardiac arrest and they don't even think she will live, now she's alive but failed her psych eval and may go to a brain injury clinic and I'm getting temp custody of her daughter. Then my microwave dies. Now the kids have lice.
Ok so we did the lice kit and we have preventative shampoo to use for 10-14 days. I'm vacuuming and washing/drying everything I can. My question is do I need to wash sheets and pillow cases and towels daily as well for these 2 weeks? I fee like I need to guy but more to keep up bc omg. That's 7 people worth of stuff.
Anything else I need to know? Keep in mind I have serious anxiety so be gently.
So pissed right now.

I don't have any lice advice, but just wanted to say I'm sorry for all this being dumped on you. That is a LOT to deal with, and even if it doesn't feel like it, you are super woman.

And I realize the microwave is laughable compared to the other stuff but it's just one more thing. And after washing heads all morning I'm starving and I just want to be able to warm up some food.

Lice

From CDC: When treating head lice, supplemental measures can be combined with recommended medicine (pharmacologic treatment); however, such additional (non-pharmacologic) measures generally are not required to eliminate a head lice infestation. For example, hats, scarves, pillow cases, bedding, clothing, and towels worn or used by the infested person in the 2-day period just before treatment is started can be machine washed and dried using the hot water and hot air cycles because lice and eggs are killed by exposure for 5 minutes to temperatures greater than 53.5°C (128.3°F). Items that cannot be laundered may be dry-cleaned or sealed in a plastic bag for two weeks. Items such as hats, grooming aids, and towels that come in contact with the hair of an infested person should not be shared. Vacuuming furniture and floors can remove an infested person's hairs that might have viable nits attached.
Looks like you are good after the first treatment. Especially if you aren't finding live lice after treatment.
Sorry about everything. I haven't experienced this yet, but I think it's just a mater of time for us. Especially with the way schools are now treating lice out breaks.
If you are paranoid, I'd just throw the bedding in the dryer on high for 20 minutes or when you think it hits the recommended temp and time to kill the lice.

If you are paranoid, I'd just throw the bedding in the dryer on high for 20 minutes or when you think it hits the recommended temp and time to kill the lice. I've been tossing things in for 40 min on high bc I figured 30 min plus cool down. So you think that's overkill? I'm doing all pillows and comforters. We picked through after treatment and still pulled out a couple live ones. Then there's the nits. I figured I'll just keep picking and wash hair and sheets daily and try not to ugly cry. I have no lice experience, MK. But based on what the CDC said - yea I'd just keep rotating things through the dryer. Or maybe finish a room and don't let anyone in there for a few days (probably not possible, though) - so at least its contained?
I'm so sorry about your sister, too. You are handling so much - you SHOULD ugly cry at some point. Hugs.

Yikes! That is truly more than one person should have to handle at one time. You're a good person for taking in your niece.
I've heard that tea tree oil can help keep live away. Maybe spritz some on after washing/drying and then you can stretch it longer between drying sessions?
Sending you strength. And a blue moon. And Xanax if you need it Llol.

Omg why is it so hard to score xanax?! My refill ran out and my midwife wouldn't give me more until I found a PCP and I know they won't all give that stuff and I really don't think they would respond well to me being like "hi I'm MK, nice to meet you. Now can I get some Xanax?" I really don't have time to go see a psychiatrist right now, or a way to do that without bringing my kids. And I don't want daily meds bc I've done that too many times to count and I'm over it. And I might need to get some beer on my way home. But you can't take babies in liquor stores? MK, does your insurance cover online consults? I know ours does for primary care type things instead of going to urgent care, but I've never used it. I wonder if you could do an online evaluation with a PCP or psychiatrist?

And wtf about no kids in liquor stores. What, should I leave them in my 120 degree car? I had a friend leave her car running with her kid in it, and run to the door of the store and say "hey! Here's $20. Can you grab me some beer?" Llol. True story.

I have nothing new to add to the lice conversation, but *HUGS* and I am so sorry you are going through so much and yay beer on a tough day/week/everything.
Except - Telemedicine! There are online doctors who can write you prescriptions and even do therapy and stuff. Even if insurance doesn't cover it might be worth it. My husband used them once when he was trying to get a refill on his thyroid meds (since he has no thyroid) and we had moved and his old doctor wouldn't refill since we hasn't been there a while and of course he was dragging his feet on finding a new PCP. It was pretty quick and easy.

Omg. And apparently the hospital was too lax with their rules and now my sisters mom has gotten c-diff from my sister. Praying no one else got it. I was the only one who seemed concerned and I yelled at my mom a few times over not being careful enough.

Oh yeah I meant to reply to stringy with the ugly cry comment. Sorry. I've been running around all day.
I feel like I can't even get the crying out. Too many little eyes on me. I try to at least stay composed through things or else I fear I'll end up a lump in the corner and no one will be here to take care of anyone.
