From CDC: When treating head lice, supplemental measures can be combined with recommended medicine (pharmacologic treatment); however, such additional (non-pharmacologic) measures generally are not required to eliminate a head lice infestation. For example, hats, scarves, pillow cases, bedding, clothing, and towels worn or used by the infested person in the 2-day period just before treatment is started can be machine washed and dried using the hot water and hot air cycles because lice and eggs are killed by exposure for 5 minutes to temperatures greater than 53.5°C (128.3°F). Items that cannot be laundered may be dry-cleaned or sealed in a plastic bag for two weeks. Items such as hats, grooming aids, and towels that come in contact with the hair of an infested person should not be shared. Vacuuming furniture and floors can remove an infested person's hairs that might have viable nits attached. Looks like you are good after the first treatment. Especially if you aren't finding live lice after treatment. Sorry about everything. I haven't experienced this yet, but I think it's just a mater of time for us. Especially with the way schools are now treating lice out breaks. If you are paranoid, I'd just throw the bedding in the dryer on high for 20 minutes or when you think it hits the recommended temp and time to kill the lice. Wait I just realized what you said. So I don't need to wash every day? Just strip the beds and toss the stuff in the dryer then back on the bed? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have nothing new to add to the lice conversation, but *HUGS* and I am so sorry you are going through so much and yay beer on a tough day/week/everything. Except - Telemedicine! There are online doctors who can write you prescriptions and even do therapy and stuff. Even if insurance doesn't cover it might be worth it. My husband used them once when he was trying to get a refill on his thyroid meds (since he has no thyroid) and we had moved and his old doctor wouldn't refill since we hasn't been there a while and of course he was dragging his feet on finding a new PCP. It was pretty quick and easy. Wait but I did this for Vicodin and Valium once in my party days. It was not legal lol. My friend did it again and they got seized. So there's a legit one now? And they take insurance? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk www.amwell.com

When we had lice one summer, we put the comforters in plastic bags in the basement so we didn't have to keep washing them. We really struggled with getting rid of them because my mom struggled to see lice in my hair and nits in my sister's hair.
Seriously, put everything soft you can away until you're done with the lice. It makes life so much easier when you're constantly cleaning.
And I am so sorry you're dealing with all that.

I was just going to keep drying them every morning, won't that work? All the other stuff I'm washing and/or drying or freezing and then tossing in my sewing area. I need to clean the basement but I'm not letting them down there until this is done so I don't have to clean the whole house every day. It's taking me forever to get the basement done and get through all this wash. If it's there without people for a week everything should die right? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

We went to just sheets (we were also middle school and high school at the time) to simplify laundry because each comforter took it's own cycle. I think you need about 2 weeks without a host (louse life span + time to hatch), but if you can keep everyone out of the basement for 2+ weeks, you should be good.

Oh man, I'm so so sorry! I had a horrible experience with lice in middle school and it took forever to get rid of them. I hope your situation gets resolved quickly!

I wish people would stop saying I make them itchy. I'll trade your fears for my reality All the boys now have shaved heads. I keep trying to get D to tell me it's ok to shave mine because I cannot handle this anymore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
