So glad I did crockpot dinner today. We’ve eaten and now it’s wine and cookies. H is being the biggest Debbie Downer and I told him I could not take an entire evening of election returns this way. We’re going to watch part of Will and Harper for now.

Hello. I am stress. I made homemade chicken noodle soup and I'm sending my H out for prosecco and chocolate chip cookie dough that I will just eat without baking. We had tacos but I have chicken stock going for tomorrow. |

I have SO MUCH ANXIETY. No amount of running can fix my feelings right now, but I wish I was running. Instead I have to schlep DD1 to her 8pm dance class.

I had a mild freak out and made Tim Walz's hot dish in a fugue state. It's supposed to be dinner, but I just needed something to do with my hands. And now I'm rewatching that Hallmark Mountie show because I have just given up the pretense of sanity, good decisions, or productivity today. I have not actively yearned for alcohol in six months, but damn a glass of wine would be nice right now. (I'm fine, I'll just drink diet coke until I explode. I do think remaining sober today is testament to my commitment here). I should have come over so you could hold me. |

My kids got into my secret stash of candy. I had planned on either celebrating with takeout and candy or crying with takeout and liquor. I’m drinking anyway because my nerves can’t take this.

I posted this on my timeline - and I know it's an absolute privilege to not be in full despair right now. For all of you who don't have the privilege, I'm so, so sorry. I am holding you close.
I don't really have the energy and I'm not ready to be Pollyana about this.
So I will say this - to the folks on my timeline who might read this who voted for Trump and were posting memes about not breaking up families or friendships over politics, or about how you can't wait for closed borders or a strong economy, but looked the other way or played off the President-Elect's awful rhetoric as "all talk", remember ME.
Remember that, despite the hope I held, I'm scared for my future. Scared for my daughter (and son). Scared for your daughters and sons. Scared for the lost, the lonely, the immigrants in a foreign land. Scared for our democracy.
But remember this: I will NOT storm the Capitol in January. I will NOT claim this election was stolen for the next four years. I will turn my anger and fear into HOPE that the nation created by the Founding Fathers almost 250 years ago is strong enough to withstand the divisiveness that has absolutely taken over.
I will continue to fight for the least, the lost, and the last.
I hope you'll remember that those of us who weren't ready for the first (let alone second) Trump presidency are still here, and we are not your enemy. We are your neighbors, your family members, your friends, and your colleagues. Have some compassion, and let's hope that our country can somehow come together to be the place we hope it can be.
