My library is doing "Blind Date With a Book" for February where a book is gift-wrapped with only the genre and first line on a tag. My pick was We Wish You Luck which is different than my usual reads so I'll see how it goes. Ironically, I met MH on a blind date! I love this idea!

My BOTM was waiting for me when I got home tonight so instead of hoarding my new books I decided to dive right into The Women. One chapter in and the pages are falling out of the book, I’ve never had that happen before! Oh no! Reach out to them their customer service is really good I did and already heard back that they’re sending a new copy. It’s not unreadable, so long as I don’t lose the pages, but a bummer since it’s brand new. But I was impressed with their fast response to make it right!

I finished The Women last night. I gave it 4 stars. It dragged a little towards the end, but overall it was really good. Had my annual review not been scheduled for today, I would have been tempted to stay home and keep reading. I only made it six chapters so far but it sucked me right in.

I read Boys in the Valley and while it wasn’t the cheeriest book I’ve ever read lol, it did hold my interest. I gave it 4 stars.
I’m going to try a debut novel next - Everyone Who Can Forgive Me is Dead by Jenny Hollander

Finished Uprising late last night. Now I’m starting my read for the online book club Mrs. Nash’s Ashes. This is 100% not something I would ever normally pick up, so we’ll see how it goes!

I’m halfway through CC3. It’s actually my favorite in the series so far. Nonstop action and the story is coming together nicely. It is SO long though. Definitely need some short easy reads once I’m done with this one! I’m at the halfway point too. As of right now the first is still my favorite but I will be wait until the end of this one to make my final decision on that.

I absolutely loved that entire series - I actually think I like it more than ACOTAR. Will make two recommendations: 1. Definitely read the Assassin's Blade novella collection (there is a debate on the best place to read it - some read it first, some recommend after Heir of Fire, SJM herself just suggested after Crown of Midnight - basically any point before Queen of Shadows is fine) 2. I'm not sure how it would work with the digital versions, but I highly recommend doing the tandem read for Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn (might need to borrow a hard copy of one or the other?). Without getting into spoilers, it follows two different tracks, and the tandem read meshes it together into one long story. I can share the chapter order with you when you get to that point, if you want it. PS, feel free to ignore me if this has already been discussed in depth already. I should have jumped into the reading threads sooner! Good to know! I have holds on the novellas and they are all short waits. Good to know about the two of those books. ETA what about when to read the assasin's blade? is that grouped with the novellas? Assassin Blade is just the name of the collection of the novellas. Like if you buy a hard copy of AB, it’s all the novellas in one. I read AB first and I was glad I did because I had more information about some characters which made me connect to them better. My friend read it after Heir of Fire and she said she was glad she did because it was more emotional that way.

Lol@me If you bought them on Kindle you can return them, especially if you explain that you wanted to buy them in the collection and you didn't buy them weeks ago Amazon is usually really good about stuff like this.

So if you have them on reserve individually you should be fine as long as you catch all of them: Assassin and the Pirate Lord Assassin and the Desert Assassin and the Underworld Assassin and the Empire Assassin and the Healer ETA should have kept reading lol

I just finished The Teacher, and was just kind of disappointed. It was gripping, as her books usually are. But I disliked all the characters, lol. I gave it 3 stars.

I read all six of the meet cute short stories. The first one I would have loved as a full length novel. The second one was cute. The rest were just ok. Meh.
I'm leaning into February and started My Phony Valentine. I'm like a third in and enjoying it.

I just finished A Little Life and I’m a wreck. I read a review that basically said, “This was a miserable experience. 5 stars. I can’t in good conscience recommend this book to anyone.” So true. It is both beautiful and soul crushing. It is definitely a 5 star book for me and I will be thinking about these characters for a long time.
I’m going to read Neon Gods next and let the smut heal me 🤣

I gave it 2 stars. It was a quick read but that's about all it had going for it. The twists were meh. Definitely needs TW. I feel like she needs to slow down with putting out so many books so fast. The most recent ones haven't been great. And do we really need another Housemaid book? I'm going to read it of course though, lol.

Continuing on my goal of reading black romances by black authors, I've been reading The Wright Brothers books by Christina C. Jones. So far I have read the first two, Getting Schooled and Pulling Doubles. I gave them both 3.5 stars. Cute and funny! I'm on the wait list for the third.

I just posted here about some Bride book that just came out that her fans are going crazy about and then I just saw tonight people hoping her next one coming out in June will be a pick for BOTM. And before this Bride book on February 6, she had one come out November 7. Before that, was June. I don’t understand it.

I finished The Overnight Guest by Heather Gudenkauf. A murder mystery about a family who was murdered, a daughter who escaped and the daughter’s BFF who disappeared. It was a nice departure from my usual beach read - there were a few plot twists, most if which I guessed but one I did not. The middle was a bit slow and I skimmed some chapters (bad habit) so I may go back a reread to see if I missed any clues in the one twist I didn’t work out.
I pushed all my Libby holds off a week thinking it wasn’t going to hold my attention but it did.
Also TW for DV and SA, not graphic but it’s there.

I finished Two Twisted Crowns (sequel to One Dark Window) and I loved it so much, it’s my first 5 star book this year. The duology is so good even though it starts out very weird it really pulls you into the world and the characters

I've started Throne of Glass. Ended up buying the 7 in one kindle version because it was going to take me more than a year with library holds to get through everything. Also listening to The Paris Deception. I love the throne of glass series so much

I started Strictly Not Yours last night since it's the next in a series I've been picking my way through.

I finally finished my longest audio book yet. Out of the Clear Blue Sky was 15 hours. I actually had to return it and wait for it again. A few times I felt bad for the main characters as her H was a therapist and the narcissist tendencies came out when he was speaking to her.
I was going to download another book, but I recently started Little Fires Everywhere on my Kindle. And also have a physical copy of Meet Me at the Lake that I am reading.

Finished A Court of Mist and Fury last night. 5 stars. My one criticism is I think it’s unrealistic that Feyre is supposed to be 19/20 in these books.

I don’t read ACOTAR but this made me laugh because I totally do this … and also, these expressions make me not want to read ACOTAR because they are pretty ridiculous IMO. Part 1 is even worse (in terms of outrageous expressions, but I think her acting skills are hilarious in this part 2 and that’s the one I saw first on TikTok) www.tiktok.com/t/ZT83xWn6D/www.tiktok.com/t/ZT83xgJSt/

She’s put out several more of these and they are all hilarious. Check out her page. But yeah, I’m much less interested in seeing what ACOTAR is all about after this because wtf are these expressions 😂

I don’t think it takes away from the whole of the book, imo.
