Harris county finally picked up Village In The Dark too, so now I can actually put it on hold. I've been stalking all my libraries all day. The wait for it is shorter than the NYC hold list too, so it works out. I'd still appreciate if NYCPL would verify my address so I can use my card again though.

I just finished No Two Persons by Erica Bauermeister. I really enjoyed it.
I don't know how it came to be on my Libby list, whether it was suggested by someone here or in a list I saw online, but I really enjoyed it. It's about how one book changes the lives of nine readers. So it's somewhat a series of short stories with a common thread of the book, but all the story characters are subtly connected to each other.

I finished CC3. I gave it 4 stars. It was good but not nearly as good as the first book.
I think I need a quick fantasy break. Or at least something not as intense.

I finished First Lie Wins and although it got a bit boring in the middle, I ended up really liking it and will check out her other books.

I finally finished Heaven and Earth Grocery Store. It took me about a month to finish, not because it's hard to get through but just because I didn't spend a ton of time reading it. It was really good, but only in the last third of the book was I really compelled to keep reading because I was excited about what was happening.
I started The Night Circus, which I think I'm probably years late on.

I finished Everyone on the Train is a Suspect in a day. I liked the first but this one was way better. I gave it 4 stars. I got about 25% through The Women by Kristin Hannah that came out today. I'm hooked so far. I am reading this currently. It's so good although hard to read at times, if that makes sense.

It's a slow work from home day so I downloaded the LibraryThing app and started cataloging my books. There were 60 books just on the "small" bookshelf, haven't gotten to the other stacks and boxes of books. I bought two bookshelves that a friend was getting rid of so my plans for Valentine's night is home library organization. I'm giddy.

I guess I’m not taking a fantasy break. I started Hurricane Wars yesterday. I want to read it before I meet the author in March.

I got about 100 pages into the women and enjoying it so far. This is why I love her books I’m not a huge historical fiction reader and yet she paints these scenes that make me love it Apparently, filming for The Nightingale (my favorite KH book) is supposed to finally get going later this year (it's had multiple delays, mainly due to Covid).

I haven’t had a whole lot of time to read lately, but it’s probably for the better to read it in increments especially after reading The Nightingale last month.

I haven't read in like a week. I haven't been enthusiastic about Twisted Crowns since I found out I messed up and started with book 2, so I'm wondering if I should temporarily DNF it so I can read the first, and then come back to it later. I'm enjoying it but I feel like it would be easier to follow if I read the first one lol.
Could also just be a mini reading rut too, I suppose.

I feel like you’re missing a lot of context and the foundations of the world building by skipping book 1. I love the duology but I’d DNF book 2 and start book1 first

The Women gets 5 stars from me.
Such tough subject matters but the story just pulls you right in. The second part is different from the first but an important read in different ways (I feel like I'm parroting something someone already said but not sure if that was from this group or another, so my apologies if I'm recycling your take but not sure how else to describe it).
Now I have that good book hangover, but decided the only cure was to jump genres so now I'm into The Housemaid.

My poor DD1 just discovered spoilers. She just started reading The Hunger Games and read the back of books 2 and 3 to see what they were about and spoiled it for herself who survives book 1. She's really bummed. I've totally done that before so I get how she feels.

I didn’t get it yesterday and thought I would today since dd is home but well she is home and we do have things to go get for a funeral this weekend so I’m still hoping for some time this evening

She was listening to the soundtrack for the musical and realized that suddenly she knew where the book was going. Live and learn.

I finished Bending the Rules, the third Wright Brothers book and it was my favorite of the three. 4 stars.
Now I'm reading the Reluctant Royals books by Alyssa Cole. I've finished the first book, A Princess in Theory and it was really fun and cute. 4 stats. I'm almost done with the second book, A Duke by Default and it's kind of meh. My library doesn't have the third book. There are also two novellas that my library does have so I'll read those next.
I'm also planning to start the new John Marrs book that came our this week, The Stranger In Her House.

I had started The Boys in the Boat for my ICYMI read from 2013, but I could just tell I wasn’t feeling it. Sort of in the way that I knew it wasn’t the book, I just wasn’t feeling that book at that particular time, so I made the easy decision to stop after just 5% (don’t know how many pages that would be in the real book). I truthfully don’t even consider something like that a DNF, it’s more of a ‘this isn’t what I want to read and I just reread the same paragraphs multiple times, so that’s enough of that’ kind of thing.
I went back to the list and saw The Rosie Project and I have a friend that just read it and enjoyed it, so I tried that instead. So far so good!

This week I finished two books I’ve been working on for awhile - one physical and one audio.
Audio: Leslie F*cking Jones I gave this four stars. I really enjoyed it but it is long. She is basically talking and she goes on so many tangents and rants so it just took me awhile. I really love Leslie and I feel like I know her now. Like everything about her. My favorite parts were the inside looks at coming up as a comedian, her time (and struggles) on SNL, and her dishes on so many celebs. There were some hard parts to listen to - she hasn’t had an easy life by any means. And I really related to the section about her mom and her health struggles. All in all a good listen. Just be aware that it’s stream of consciousness (I don’t think much matches the actual book) and the f word is every other word.
Physical: Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez Three stars for me. I picked this up as a light romance and found it pretty exhausting for most of the book. I didn’t read for like two weeks in the middle of it because I just wasn’t that interested. The characters are nice but their communication mishaps go on too long and could have been easily resolved at their age. The medical plot was pretty goofy and I had to suspend disbelief on that one. It did well in the diversity of characters and there’s a huge plot point around mental health (anxiety specifically) that was handled very well.
I just started Hello Beautiful for book club.

I finished Things I Forgot About last night then started The Fake Out.
I don't think I've read anything besides romance so far this month. Clearly my brain is just in need of entertainment with no required deep thinking.

I finished Inheritance, I gave it a 3.5. It would've gotten higher but Nora Roberts needs to understand that people don't talk out loud to themselves as much as she thinks. There are ways to write so we know a person's thoughts without having the person say every thought that crosses their mind out loud. I don't know why but it really got under my skin throughout the book. Other than that, I really enjoyed it. I'm interested enough to read the next one for sure.

I just finished A Woman Is No Man and it was such a great book that’s going to stick with me a long time. 5+ stars for sure
I got a skip the line audio of Everyone On This Train is a Suspect and could hardly get through the first chapter. I remember really enjoying the writing of the first book and it just wasn’t translating so I returned it and will wait a few months for the physical book.

I don’t do audio so take this with a grain of salt but think that book would work at all. So many characters to remember!
