I finished The September House and really enjoyed it! It was a neat twist on the haunted house story that I hadn't really read before. Parts of it didn't quite work for me, but I don't want to give any spoilers. I would still give it a 5 star rating, because it hooked me, had a fun premise and even creeped me out at parts.

I just finished How to say Babylon By Safiya Sinclair and I really loved it. Would highly recommend as it was beautifully written and I learned a lot about the Rastafari religion.
Also even though I normally never do this, I read the acknowledgements and one of the poets she thanks is a friend of mine from college who I did a study abroad with. Small world!

I finished Unfortunately Yours on kindle and Book Lovers on audio today. I enjoyed both, Book Lovers was a solid 4 stars and Unfortunately Yours was more 3.5 rounded up.

I read The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah and absolutely loved it. Lots of TW abusive family experiences and dynamics, but overall a heartwarming story that had me in tears (both happy and sad).
I also finished All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham. Something about the writing style just was offputting to me, and while I didn't predict the arc of the story, the book was just meh for me overall.

I finished The Teacher. I liked it a bit more than everyone else seemed to but it for sure had a big ick factor. Like all of her books it wasn’t believable whatsoever but it was a fast and easy read. I needed that.
On to The Women now.

I finished The Fake Out this morning.
I have no clue what to read next. I was perusing my TBR and just feel blah about all of it.
I really want to read The Exiled by Sarah Daniels since it's the sequel to a book of hers I really enjoyed. But I can still only find it in hard copy for purchase on Amazon and I just don't want to buy it. Maybe I'll check my library for a physical copy.

Have you read Sonali Dev's books? She retells Jane Austen stories set in a moder-day Desi family. They are great! She is who I started with!
I also enjoy: Uzma Jalaluddin, Nisha Sharma, Abida Jaigirdar & Alisha Rai.
I’m way late to this, but have you read any of Sara Desai? She has a few romantic comedies and a heist book too. I’m new to this sub genre but I’ve really liked her books! I’ll have to check out the other authors you mentioned.

I've been in a bit of a reading rut and have only read 6 books so far this year. We've been down with strep, the flu, and just general blahs.
Anyway, I finished both Lessons in Chemistry and Welcome to the OC: an oral history (listened) yesterday. I really liked LIC and can't wait to watch the mini-series now. Welcome to The OC was okay. It read a bit like a real like Daisy Jones/Behind the Music with interviews and input from the cast and behind the scenes crew. If you were an OC fan, I definitely suggest it.

My library is doing "Blind Date With a Book" for February where a book is gift-wrapped with only the genre and first line on a tag. My pick was We Wish You Luck which is different than my usual reads so I'll see how it goes. Ironically, I met MH on a blind date! I love this idea! I DNF We Wish You Luck. The book is probably fine but so hard to get into between being unavailable in Libby for my kindle and just not my usual genres. I'll get a new Blind Date Book this afternoon and hope it's better! ETA my new book is Anne Perry's A Christmas Legacy. This is definitely more my style

So your post and recognition of a name made me smile!

My holds on First Lie Wins and Village In The Dark came in. I'm much more excited for the latter of the two, but I'm excited to have something other than my typical romance books.

jaygee I have the physical and audiobooks of Leslie F*cking Jones and while I loved the physical book, I am LOVE LOVE LOVING the audiobook. She even says that she knows she riffs a lot in the audiobook but she found it a lot more comfortable to just talk, which was why I bought the audiobook

I just finished shed Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen and I can't recommend it enough if you like fantasy and/or mythology. It's about an African mermaid in the 1400s and focuses on Yoruba mythology and was just such an enjoyable and moving read.

The stomach flu hit our family this week but when I wasn’t dealing with that, I managed to get a few books in:
Everyone Who Can Forgive Me is Dead was a decent thriller although I’ve already forgotten most of it. But not a bad debut overall
The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels was so fun, I loved this one.
First Lie Wins was also good. I agree with everyone who said it was a bit slow in the middle bit otherwise I really enjoyed it.
I’m starting That’s Not My Name next. I didn’t realize until I went back to Goodreads that it was YA, which usually isn’t my thing but it’s my only library book right now so I’ll give it a try.

I finished another Irish murder mystery book, A Murder at an Irish Bakery, 4 stars.
I’m on vacation so I anticipate finishing a few books this week. I just flew through A Court Of Wings and Ruin. 5 stars.

I finished The Women and what a powerful book. I wasn’t thrilled with one of the twists but I also pretty much figured that would happen and I see why it needed to happen.
This should be a must read for all vets and family of vets

I enjoyed The Housemaid, even though it felt rather familiar. I hadn't planned to read "I'm Glad my Mom Died" but it was a skip the line pick on Libby so I started both that and an ARC for "Everyone I Kissed Since you got Famous". Neither one has me hooked, yet.

I finished the Reluctant Royals series and still picked the first one the best. Books 2 and 3 I gave 2.5 stars. I also read the two novellas, the first one I gave 2.5 stars as well. I did really enjoy the second one though, Can't Escape Love, and gave it 4.5 stars. It was super cute and I loved the disability and neurodivergent rep.
I'm now finally finishing No One Can Know. I'm at about 80% and I still don't really care what happens. Definitely not as good as her previous books which is a disappointment.

In the last weekish I have made it through 3 more ToG books and am now working my way through tandem reading empire of storms/tower of dawn on the kindle. It’s special for sure.

I finished listening to Belladonna, and really enjoyed it. 4.5 stars.
I am still working through The Villa (I’m liking it), and started listening to Kenan Thompson’s memoir.

I finished The Hurricane Wars by Thea Guanzon. I liked it but found it a little frustrating. I like a good slow burn but this was frustratingly slow. The book left way too much unsettled by the end. She is clearly leaving the door open for the next book which she is already writing.
I do like that it clearly shows her roots as a Star Wars fanfiction author. This story could easily translate into that fandom.

I've got 2 books going right now,Shadows so cruel, and you deserve eachother. But I paused today to listen to the 50 part tiktok story going around. I'm on part 35/50. I looked to see if it was being talked about here, but didn't see a post. Its called who tf did i marry. The ladies name is ReesaTeesa. And let me just say... this is a real life thriller. I'm making myself go to bed instead of listening to the last 15 parts. Someone in a booktok group I'm in, said we should be able to mark it complete on goodreads because it's like finishing a book. Lol please tell me someone else is following this

I started A flicker in the dark and got a bit done yesterday. Not sure how I feel.
I need to do a library trip because I for once only have one library book here which is not normal
ETA: but I also don’t know what I want to read

I read The Body Keeper by Anne Fraiser, which is the 3rd and final in the series. I enjoyed it but the twists were a bit much. I never cared for the main character but I do like the stories so I gave it 4 stars as I did the other 2.
I also read the 3rd and finals of the Abby Mullen books by Mike Omer. I have really enjoyed this series and this one was no exception. It was a little nuts at the end but it came together nicely. I loved the characters in this one.
I'm working on Play Dead by Anne Frasier. I'm having a tough time getting into it but want to see where it is going. I am also reading Ask for Andrea and am enjoying that a lot.

I finished When The Stars Go Dark by Paula McClain. I liked it but felt like the pacing was off and it took me a while to get into it. 3 stars.

I finally finished The Women, which was great. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My current read is Everyone In This Room Will Someday Be Dead. I’m kind of going in blind, but it’s keeping my attention so far.
