I have to say I am glad there are only two weekends left. My plan for February is to actually measure out my drinks instead of just heavily pouring half a glass of vodka.

I've been doing pretty well. I had a couple nights with planned drinks, but I kept it to 2-3. This is a lot different than an entire bottle of wine or 4/5 vodka sodas. During the week (sunday-thursday), I've grabbed one high noon, instead of 2-3 glasses of wine or manhattans. I'm going to try to keep it going and try to go without any Sunday through Thursday. I'm definitely going to do some mocktails.

I've been keeping to a no school nights rule and it's been working pretty well. Certainly helped reduce and I can see this continuing on.

I've been doing well... for me! dh and I went out for restaurant week last night and I had two glasses of wine. BUT no nightcap which is a win in my book! Our evenings have been pretty busy which makes not drinking pretty easy. Hoping to keep it up Sun-Thursday in February too, which a few planned exceptions like the Rodeo.

I'm not really sure what I want to do moving forward. I haven't had good luck in the past with making "rules" like only drinking on XYZ days or X number of drinks - so I'm reflecting on that and I think it'll take additional reflection moving forward. I'm feeling great so I definitely want to keep it up in some capacity.

I'm just doing my usual OTT sugar intake š¤£. I was just watching a podcast with a country singer who quit drinking recently and he was saying how he lost a bunch of weight from his face. But then heās like - but those sugar cravings are real. He was talking about ice cream, etc. So I know he was speaking the truth.

Iām so proud of myself for making it this far. I actually feel great have so much more patience and Iām not interested in half the drinks I used to be. Iām really only missing things I loved the taste of- namely bougie wines and IPAs. But despite missing those flavors, itās not all the time anymore.
Legit non alcoholic cocktails at a fancy bar were a game changer for me. I will return there often and bring friends. Iāll happily DD and order the non alc versions. I didnāt miss the booze at all and I want them to stay in business!
I may move forward with seeing how it feels to describe myself as āI donāt really drink.ā I can if I want to, but Iām not going to just to fit in or because I had a bad day. I wonāt drink just anything, and I think Iām going to be really reflective of how the next drink I do drink feels in my body.
Thanks for these threads. Iāve become mostly a lurker in the last few years- but the experiences you all share really made it safe for me to ask questions and get curious. I appreciate you.

If you like hazy IPAs I can't recommend the athletic na version enough. It really scratches the itch. I went thru a really similar trajectory a few years ago to what you wrote and IPAs were the one thing I truly missed. I love the new bougie cocktail movement.

I ran into a friend yesterday when I was walking my dog. She asked how I was doing on Sunday. And I was like what? And then at the exact moment I figured out what she was talking about, she remembered I donāt drink. She was like OH, yeah, never mind. We were at a party together Saturday night and she was wasted (doing the worm on the floor in your 50s wasted). So she felt crappy all day on Sunday and spent all day on the couch and I didnāt even understand the question. Yeah, happy with my choices.
(Just to be honest, I had a small amount of THC but no alcohol)

They can be a bit hard to find but the Lagunitaās NIPA are a great āI just feel like a beerā NA too.

I donāt know why I havenāt come into this thread earlier, but Iāve been doing dry January. My BFF asked me to do it with her, I think she lasted 2 weeks before telling me she was done with. Which is fine. I did an almost dry December, unintentionally. I think I had two beers total from Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve.
Iām a social drinker, my concern isnāt the frequency that drink, more the amount that I consume when I do drink. Iām never tempted when Iām at home by myself, in fact I have about a dozen beers in my fridge leftover from NYE that I havenāt given a second thought to.
My birthday is next week and Iām celebrating with friends on the 3rd by going brewery hopping, which is something I havenāt done since before Covid. I am looking forward to it, but want to try and limit the amount Iām drinking. I think my plan is to order a flight at each place, vs having 2-3 pints at every brewery.
Iām going to look for some the NA beers suggested here.

I'm feeling really relieved because we had been in a very, very long cycle of alcohol equaling sexy time. Removing the alcohol and keeping the sexy time this month felt like the biggest accomplishment.

Iām actually not having an issue this year with Dry Jan. There were a couple of days where I really wanted a drink, but got through it with mocktails. I do love the Athletic Brewing IPAs, and we got a bottle of Ritual ātequilaā so that helped. The dealcoholized wine we tried out was garbage, though. š¬
My issue going forward is going to be social events with friends. We hang out with a lot of drinkers, so Iām gonna have to figure out the best way to navigate that without becoming a hermit.

We are down to the last few days of January. How is everyone feeling?
I bought a bottle of wine the other day and I have no desire to drink it. I likely will when I have a friend over sometime. Maybe.

I kind of don't want the month to end. I like the built in excuse of "dry January", will likely keep a mostly dry February

I kind of don't want the month to end. I like the built in excuse of "dry January", will likely keep a mostly dry February Iām just not drinking now. This works pretty well. When people ask me why Iāve stopped, Iāve also stated that research shows there isnāt a healthy amount of alcohol to consume. And that this is just one area Iāve found easiest to cut out. Soda water and lime/lemon also looks like a drink if you want to blend in without questions. What hit me the worst was realizing one of my daughterās friends mentioned her mom had too much wine to drive one night. I donāt want it to affect the way my kids see me as a parent. So I quit.
