Blech. I just opened a NA Becks and yuck. I need to pick up some Lagunitas Hoppy Refreshers. Is Hop Water good? I see they finally carry them in a store nearby.

Hello! I'm still here on year three of mostly not drinking. I decided to have one measly cocktail on Xmas for the first time in a year and slept like shit so I trundle on booze free.

I just yelled to MH "nobody drink he beer, the beer has gone bad!"

I like hop water, but it’s not a beer, and it’s not really trying to be one. It’s more like a hoppy seltzer. I think of it as a flavored seltzer with some bitterness to make it more interesting. The blood orange ones are my favorite. Also agree with origami that Athletic Brewing makes the best NA beers.

Outside of wanting specific beers like corona, Heineken or Guinness- (which all taste pretty identical to the original). if you are just trying to have a good beer that is NA, Athletic is the best. We also really like Brewdog. H just got a shipment of Go Brewing so I will report back on that once we try it.

I have an order pickup at Binnys for:
- Ritual Apertif Alternative (like an aperol or campari) - Pallini Limonzero (NA limoncello) - Lagunitas Hoppy Refresher variety pack
The NA liquors were speaking to me vs hard alcohol substitutes or beer. I plan to make some mocktails. I honestly don't even make cocktails at home (beyond like vodka seltzer) so I'm excited. Mostly a beer gal. Also I figure the NA liquors would also work with alcohol, should I want to do that in the future.
Has anyone tried these NA liquors?

We aren’t doing any NA variations, but have tripled our already heavy seltzer consumption. Our recycling bin is something 😳

I love making mocktails!! Have fun microworm! I made a few shrubs and I’m enjoying playing with them. Also/ huge plug for el guapo non alcoholic bitters. Their website has great mocktail recipes too! Currently enjoying a lemongrass blackberry shrub with cucumber tonic and mint!

Tomorrow and Sunday here are going to be legit snow days and I think that will be a challenge. Nothing like being stuck and home with a fire and a bottle of wine.
My plan is really great hot chocolate and doing something with my hands. I’m getting into embroidery and that sounds cozy.

This is my first dry January. 6 days in and this is the longest I’ve gone without a drink in a loooooong time. Much needed reset.

My main motivation for this was to prevent feeling like crap the days after I drank. Happy to say that I felt great yesterday; went to the gym, did laundry, went grocery shopping... I didn't wake up wishing the day away and that felt really nice.

Joining you ladies. We’ve been on vacation and there was nothing dry about it which was expected! Dh is at the deer lease and is going to be so happy to find out we’re doing dry….. idk. Not sure we can commit to a month so I think we’ll start with a dry week. I can’t wait; I need a reset.

I didn't wake up wishing the day away and that felt really nice. This is the best part of not drinking. I truly feel like I get the most out of my days now. I took my break that led to being alcohol free for 5.5 years and counting after a night out that led to a two day hangover. I just couldn’t do it anymore. I don’t want a night out to carry over into the next day.

I sweated in my sleep every night that I'd drank and that was very annoying. That won't be missed for sure!

The first month was “I am not drinking right now”. And it just kept rolling.
No hangovers, I don’t really drink N/A or replace it with a ton of seltzer so we save a ton, I’m ready to go in the morning.
I miss having wine with a good steak or dinner once in a great while. But not really much else.

The last time I had a drink, my heart rate jumped to 121. It eventually went back down, but that never happened before and it freaked me out a little.

Hey - real talk. It’s not failing. It’s information gathering. It’s learning.
Be kind to yourselves. Learning and growing isn’t easy.

Hey - real talk. It’s not failing. It’s information gathering. It’s learning. Be kind to yourselves. Learning and growing isn’t easy. This. I've definitely felt like failing in the past and MH reminds me that I am trying to grow and improve. I could do nothing and not care. So while feeling like a "failure" sucks, it means you are trying and care about growing.

Case in point. My SIL is an alcoholic* and we were at our MIL/FIL's last night to watch the college football game. On NYE she had said she was doing Dry January, much to my surprise. She made it a few days which is great. Last night she showed up slurring and not making any sense. I asked how Dry Jan was going and she waved it away "Yea, I'm not doing that anymore, fuck that, hahahaha." She doesn't care to try again or learn and improve.
She proceeded to down drinks and typically would be pressuring me to join, so it was nice to be like "none for me, I'm doing Dry Jan." Close to the time we left, I saw her sneak into the liquor cabinet to pour a 3oz shot of vodka (yes she used one of those liquid measuring cups so I could tell). I felt so content with my choices because I knew she would wake up feeling like a sack of shit and I would not.
*She definitely needs additional treatment and help beyond Dry Jan, so maybe this example isn't totally applicable to this conversation but oh well.

Yeah all or nothing mentality is really some shit. I was unknowingly stuck in it for so long. Not just around alcohol but like a lot of my life. I had a mentor even jokingly call me out on it once and I was like “huh” and it still took me like 10 more years (and a lot of therapy) before I realized it was holding me back so much. What’s hilariously ironic is that now that I’ve been able to shift my all or nothing mindset I’m so much more consistent on the things I really enjoy. Like I don’t tell myself I can’t drink or I never drink. I tell myself I drink if I want to. And I have not wanted to for over 5 years. Like legit I just have not. But that’s just me. MH doesn’t drink regularly anymore but he does have one beer in certain situations - after a softball win, after a day of skiing, on vacation at the pool, etc. He does it when he wants to and when it’s meaningful to his enjoyment and not just mindless. And it’s always just one. It’s like the most balanced thing and it blows me away that he just has such an easy going mindset about it. But if either of us ever did choose something else one day, I would hope we would be kind to ourselves and just evaluate how it made us feel and if we want to do it again.
