Long time lurker, I tend to read light summer/beach reads so never really feel I have much to contribute. I was wondering, though, if there were any recommendations for non resident library cards? I used Houston public library last year and loved it but I can’t figure out how to renew my subscription. Anything up to $50/yr is in my budget.

I’m about halfway through Where’d You Go, Bernadette… it’s my pick for the In Case You Missed It Challenge (a pick from the year 2012). I’m really enjoying it, and grateful for that challenge, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have ever decided to read it after all these years. It’s nothing spectacular (at least not as of right now) but I’m really enjoying the characters and have found myself laughing aloud a few different times.

In addition to my local county library, I have both Broward County (Florida) and Harris County (Texas). Both let me sign up with my California address and they were free, but I do remember someone here saying one of them started cracking down recently. I don’t remember which.

I meant to post this days ago, but I saw this in the metro and it made me think of you all because CoHo is so divisive lol. The French like her too!

I finally gave up on The Daughters of Block Island. I was probably 20% in and it was just dragging so much.

As part of my January cleaning, I organized my bookshelves and purged a bunch of books I won't read from my TBR shelves. That felt good. Life's too short! Hopefully now that my TBR pile is better organized, I can grab some every now and then.
For reading, I finished two holiday books that came up after later than I would have liked. I didn't really care much for either of them: - Merry Little Meet Cute by Julie Murphy & Sierra Simone - Three Holidays and a Wedding by Uzma Julaluddin and Marissa Stapley

I'm currently reading the 1989 novel "Hyperion" by Dan Simmons because it's been on a ton of "best science fiction books of all time" lists and I realized I hadn't read it yet. So far it's fantastic and I can't believe it's from 1989. I always find it so exciting to discover a book or author that is new to me and realize that now I get to read everything from the author. It's like finding a little reading treasure chest LOL.

I finished the heiress. It was pretty good so I was happy considering her last one wasn’t my favorite.
I also got half way through Ward D which is decent.

I think I may DNF Heaven and Earth Grocery Store. I'm about 140 pages in and I just....hate it. I am not finding it interesting or engaging at all and I am usually a target audience for this kind of fiction. I feel like I'm broken because everyone here is raving about it lol. But I dread opening the book every time I go back to it. I haaaaate not finishing books but I may.

I also use Broward and my local county system. If you're a NYS resident you can use the NYC public library system too. I'm on that as well since it doesn't matter where in the state you live for a digital membership.

FWIW willow you aren’t alone. In my raves about it, I’ve definitely come across people that have said they couldn’t connect.
I’m just glad I’m not one of the broken ones 😜 I’m making my husband read it and I can definitely see him being like … 🤷🏻♂️ in the end

I finally finished The Covenant of Water. I gave it 4 stars - good story but very long. Remind me to look at how long a book is before I attempt to read it on vacation (got the kindle version and didn't notice how many pages it was).
I think The Celebrants is next.

I was able to get a Harris County library card to add to my account. They let you have like 30 holds at a time, they have less books then my home library but still lots

I thought about checking it out due to all the raves here but I don't think it would be for me either 😬 From the description it sounds pretty character-driven and I'm a plot-driven girlie

junch817, Foxy, nelzie I am usually pretty into books like this so I think it might just be the author's writing style or something. I'm very bored.

Anyone else counting the hours until Crescent City 3 drops? Just me? Normally I would becausd this is my kind of book but I haven’t read the first two so I am going to wait until I read them to buy it. I am currently 34% (279 pages) into CC1. So far it’s very good.

I’m hoping to pick up Such a Fun Age and I put her new one on hold because it’s the GMA book of the month and Jess Sims my favorite peloton trainer said both are amazing and well I love her so I’m going to read it.
I also have Mercury so I’ll probably start that one today I think.

Over the last week, I DNF The Vacation by John Marrs. I got about 15% in and just wasn't feeling it. I flew through No One Can Know. I gave it 4.5 stars rounded up. I really liked the premise and how it all worked out. I also read Hello, Beautiful for a new mom's book club I'm in. I gave it 4.5, rounded down to 4. I thought there were parts where it got a bit long-winded but overall I loved it. I loved the characters, even though I was annoyed with some of them at different parts of the story.
I am now reading First Lie Wins. It is due back so I'm hoping to read most of it tomorrow, when I'm taking the day off.
