I’m pretty generous with my ratings. I give a lot more 5 stars than most people do. 😂 I'm pretty easy to please, book-wise, so I'm with you

Any good new releases that would be a good light-hearted vacation read?
I'm going on a long weekend getaway with all of my siblings. They have lots of fun activities planned. I need to make sure I have some down time as well - preferably with a book and cocktail. And, this trip might be a bit emotional because of a crappy medical diagnosis one of my sisters rec'd a few months ago. So, I need a book that I can get lost in and doesn't make me feel all the feels.

I just finished the Coworker by Freida McFadden and I didn’t really like it, which stinks but normally I like her stuff. I just couldn’t stand any of the characters.
I’m starting The Davenports next.

I finished Her Final Words by Brianna Labuskes. It was ok but nothing too thrilling. 3 stars.
I also read Litani by Jess Lourey. Her books are a bit all over the place and I was expecting a fast paced thriller or crime mystery. This was a crime mystery but told through a 14 year old vs a detective so it was a different pace. I enjoyed it and gave it 4 stars.

My goal was 35 books last year and I got 39, but I didn't read the first 9 months of the year because I was writing. I got book 2 written of my series! but probably won't publish until all 4 are written 🥴. I've gotten really into contemporary romances if anyone has any good recs. I just finished the hating game, and 99 percent mine and really enjoyed both. I also just finished Ruthless Vows 💕 Have you read any Jasmine Guillory books? I’m not a huge romance reader but I always enjoy her books since they are so contemporary. I don't think so! I'll check out her books! I'm listening to the Ritual and it's 90% smut, 10% plot 🤣

As for contemporary romance, I think anything by Susan Mallery, Susan Wiggs, or Sheila Roberts may fit the bill. I read Christmas books by all of them last month. They were all enjoyable in their own way. I normally veer towards faith based books which they weren't, but they weren't too spicy either if that makes sense. Fantasy! I'm going to market them as pocket fantasy since they're a little shorter then traditional fantasy novels.

I just finished Late Bloomers, which I really enjoyed. Some readers might find the characters frustrating, but I found them....lovably flawed. They were honest. True to life.

So, I need a book that I can get lost in and doesn't make me feel all the feels. The Finlay Donovan series is light hearted and fun, and so is the Class Mom series. I think the Class Mom series was just a teeny bit try hard, but I also read each book when one of my kids was the same age as her kid in the book so it resonated with me (I haven’t read the 4th one yet).

I haven’t read that one but I’ve enjoyed most of the books that I’ve read by him. I did feel that some of his older books were a bit dated in mindset and how they treated certain characters but even if you don’t like that one, his newer ones are fun. I’ve heard that once I get started I’ll be reading all his I watched the show but didn't read the book and while the show was good I think it'd be wayyy better reading so I'm curious how you like it!

I never rate books. I'm weird. I generally only mark if it is really bad so that I don't forget and recommend it to anyone. Sometimes if a book sticks with me, I will add a rating later. I have a hard time deciding on numbers.

icedcoffee Did you recommend Hidden Potential? Because I'm absolutely loving it and I know someone here recommended it. I've enjoyed his other books as well but this one is just really hitting the spot. My H and 13 year old son are going to read it as well.

I’ve been really looking forward to it, because I just loved his last book. He’s just so spot on, understands the times and how to best react to the world we’re living in.

Finished Invisible Life of Addie LaRue last week and I have 45 pages left of The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store. Both so so good. The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store may be one of the best books I have read in the last few years.
Yellow face is up next.

I finally read ACOTAR (book 1). I gave it 4 stars. I really enjoyed it and will continue to read the series. I find the protagonist to be rather grating but I'll keep reading anyway haha.

I started two books yesterday:
Audiobook - Leslie F*cking Jones Paperback - Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez
Both are hitting the spot for what I need and I’m excited for the weekend reading I’ll be doing on this rainy weekend.

I finished Divine Rivals. It definitely got better as it went on. I placed a hold for next one, but of my three linked libraries, the shortest wait is 15 weeks.

I have been slogging through three very different books, some much longer than others, and I think I’m going to try to get them all done on this winter storm weekend so I can move on. (My Antonia, The Return of the King, You With a View)
I love Tolkien, but the man could really drag out a battle. You With a View is frenemy status. I’m just really struggling to connect with the story and the main character, but I’m 85% done, so I’ll finish. I want to root for her, and parts of the stories I like, but meh.
My Antonia was interesting enough, until the record-scratch racist chapter in the middle. I hadn’t read anything about the book before hand, and it really caught me off guard.

Apparently it’s going to be a Frieda McFadden beginning of the year. Ward D and the inmate are ready for me to pick up at the library

I finished The Wife Upstairs (by Freida McFadden), and yeah it’s basically Verity.
Also so frustrating to read about two women ignoring many many red flags from the same man lol.

The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store may be one of the best books I have read in the last few years. Yellow face is up next. I’m about 2/3 through Heaven and Earth Grocery Store. My neighbor invited me into a book club she is a part of for awhile now. This is my first month and this was the pick. I had to buy the book because I couldn’t get it anywhere in time. I have zero regrets. It’s amazing. I want to tear through it but it’s one of those books that I’m savoring because I’m loving it so much, and it’s been a LONG time since I have read a book like that. I don’t want it to end. I love (and hate) the characters so deeply. Some chapters are better than others but wow I am connecting to some of these characters so much.

My library has it available and I feel like I should grab it since you're all enjoying it so much.
