I’m about 2/3 through Heaven and Earth Grocery Store. My neighbor invited me into a book club she is a part of for awhile now. This is my first month and this was the pick. I had to buy the book because I couldn’t get it anywhere in time. I have zero regrets. It’s amazing. I want to tear through it but it’s one of those books that I’m savoring because I’m loving it so much, and it’s been a LONG time since I have read a book like that. I don’t want it to end. I love (and hate) the characters so deeply. Some chapters are better than others but wow I am connecting to some of these characters so much. Is this by James McBride? My library has it available and I feel like I should grab it since you're all enjoying it so much. Quoting myself because as I was looking at it the last copy got snapped up and now I'm 363rd in line. There had been 1 of 23 copies available and I was too slow. My other linked libraries have long waits too.

Also, when I placed holds on my local county system it says there are two lanes of waits. I looked at what that means it's priority members versus nonpriority members. I noticed a couple of weeks ago when I was checking out physical books for the kids that they were offering priority holds for $5 a month and now I kind of want to go sign up for that.

I finished Clark and Division tonight. It was a heartbreaking but thoughtful read. TW for SA Description from the author's website under spoiler Twenty-year-old Aki Ito and her parents have just been released from Manzanar, where they have been detained by the US government since the aftermath of Pearl Harbor, together with thousands of other Japanese Americans. The life in California the Itos were forced to leave behind is gone; instead, they are being resettled two thousand miles away in Chicago, where Aki’s older sister, Rose, was sent months earlier and moved to the new Japanese American neighborhood near Clark and Division streets. But on the eve of the Ito family’s reunion, Rose is killed by a subway train.
Aki, who worshipped her sister, is stunned. Officials are ruling Rose’s death a suicide. Aki cannot believe her perfect, polished, and optimistic sister would end her life. Her instinct tells her there is much more to the story, and she knows she is the only person who could ever learn the truth.
Inspired by historical events, Clark and Division infuses an atmospheric and heartbreakingly real crime fiction plot with rich period details and delicately wrought personal stories Naomi Hirahara has gleaned from thirty years of research and archival work in Japanese American history.

I never buy books and like I said, I bought this for book club because I had to, but I am SO glad this is one of the few purchased books I have now. I honestly just want to read it 5-10 pages at a time because I want it to last. I will say, there are a LOT of characters, but it’s not crucial that you remember every one of them. There’s only a handful that really matter to the central story. Each chapter tells the story of a new character in the town, and they are all interesting, but it’s not necessary that you remember each thing about everyone. Some of them do tie together, so when you do remember something that will link one character to another, it’s nice, but don’t kill yourself flipping back and forth trying to remember it all.

Do you think it would be good on audio? I have a couple Audible credits and I try to use them on new, longer to acquire on Libby books.

I’m going to suggest that Heaven & Earth book to my book club so I also put myself on a very long library wait list. But I’ll probably just end up buying it.

The only thing that gives me pause is I do find myself going back and forth a lot trying to look back and reference when a character was mentioned before because there are a lot, and that’s something that’s not as easy to do in an audiobook. But like I said, it’s not necessarily critical to the story to be able to connect everyone. I’m not sure! I know some of the negative reviews are people complaining about the amount of characters which is why I have mentioned it a couple of times, and I just know for me personally, while I LOVE audiobooks, I don’t navigate well going back and forth in audiobooks. I’m sorry that’s probably not too helpful.

Well I finished The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store. I literally want to read the whole thing all over again, right now. I’m so sad it’s done. What a beautiful story. I’m so sad I can’t read it again for the first time.

OK I'm definitely adding Heaven and Earth Grocery Store to my list. I have a long list of books that came in on hold so I'm trying to work my way through those first but I'm excited to check it out.

I just listened to All the Lies by Nicola Sanders. It was a quick short thriller and it was pretty good. I actually wished it was longer to flesh out some things.

Since answering you originally, I talked to a friend of mine who read it and she really enjoyed it, and she did the audio, so it might end up being a good one!

I started The Reformatory by Tananarive Due and I haven't been able to put it down. But it's definitely not an easy read I finished this. It's joining my short list of 5 star books. I didn't want the story to end. Some parts made me feel sick, but it's beautifully written and such an important story

I haven't really gone here but I just finished Prophet Song by Paul Lynch that won last year's booker prize.
It's fantastic and haunting and I just had to tell somebody.

I finished Sadie and The Bad Boy Billionaire yesterday. It was just ok.
I used some Amazon points to grab Ruthless Vows because I hate not finishing a series and I didn't feel like waiting four months. I'm almost done, I'll have finished this afternoon. It's good.

I finished First Lie Wins last night. It was a fun twisty read and I actually rated it 5 stars. It’s more like 4.5 but I gave it points for creativity.
Started Love on the Brain. Its been on my Kindle for awhile.

Its been on my Kindle for awhile. I have this from my botm and keep hearing how great it is. I was going to do the second chance year next (read about 30 pages yesterday) but maybe I’ll grab this one instead

I just finished Vacationland by Meg Mitchell Moore. Gave it 4 stars on Goodreads. One of the main characters is so relatable in having issues with her H, raising 3 children and dealing with her father who has dementia.
This was the first physical book that I have read in a long time. Found myself flipping back to reread a few passages. I realized how much I missed it so I see more library visits in my future.

I’m very intimidated by its length (I have this one from Aardvark book club). I’m sure I’ll appreciate the length once I’m in the thick of it and enjoying it, but for right now, it remains intimidating 😂

Truly though, I've found other similarly long ones to drag and have too much filler. But all of it works for the story and I never got bored

Books into movies lose a lot of content, especially long ones like that one. But I think it would make an excellent movie. I kind of hope someone picks it up

Just put holds on like 5 of the books mentioned here and none of them will be available soon. Womp womp. But The Invisible Life of Addie Larue was available so I snatched that.
I just finished actor/comedian Rob Delaney's book A Heart That Works and I enjoyed it. Very sad obviously but I relate to his sense of humor and his no-nonsense perspective on grief and loss was somewhat refreshing.
