your 6 year old is the sensible one. Ehhhhh is he though? Going from zero to two is easier than zero to one, so I don't think two is too many. I mean... I have 3 dogs, a cat and 4 chickens. So I'm not really in a position to judge lol

We are down to two dogs and cat and honestly that's more than enough. I really want goats though.

I would love a couple of goats and chickens but we live in black bear country and I fear it'd be too much work and near impossible to keep them safe. The bears around here regularly open doors to housebreak so I'm not sure what kind of structure would keep them out.

He was legit so sad about that we don’t have them anymore. And aside from one of the cars who died when he was a few months old (the other one died before he was born) he probably met a cat for the first time since just this weekend and apparently he loves cats now. Such sweet sensitive kids! I guess we have to get a cat or two soonish. my 8 yo still cries over our dog who died when the 8 yo was 5 months old.
like in public to the point where people give us condolences for losing our dog, until we tell them it's been 8 years.
Mine gets upset about the two we had (that were gone before he was 3) that he doesn't even remember what they look like. He gets them wrong in pictures. Like you can't confuse a Brittany and a Rottie bro.

DS still mourns STD hard. It's tough. He wanted her stocking up this year again, and insisted on hanging the couple of ornaments we collected over the years on the kid tree where he could see them.
I think she was just such a fixture in his early memory formation - his first word was dog, he followed her around, she was totally devoted to him and would sit with him while he played trains.
It's sad, I was hoping bringing Bagel in would help him move on, and it has somewhat but I guess there's nothing like your first dog. It also doesn't help that this one is obsessed with me, whereas STD was all about her kids. So they don't get the same attention from her.

I always think I could handle another pet or two but then my dog throws up or my kids start their daily 50 questions and I remember that I have enough creatures that depend on me.

For a solid year or more after the cats died, any time anyone mentioned cats my oldest (3-4 at the time) would chime in with “we used to have cats and THEY DIED and it was so awkward for people. 😅

That also goes into my work life where I have to question whether I am the one whose sense of logic is skewed or is it everybody else. Because something that makes perfect sense to me, is apparently foreign to most of the staff over the age of 45.*

He was like let’s get two cats and two dogs and my 6YO was like that’s too many. 😅 your 6 year old is the sensible one. He has his moments but let’s not get carried away.

They are best friends. DS is currently sprawled on him right now.

DS likes to remind me that the puppies will be sad when he LEAVES FOR COLLEGE IN EIGHT YEARS Fuck, man. This really gets me. My DD will be in high school next year, so we’re even closer and the thought of our dog and cat being here without her is too much. I remember how sad my dog would get when I started packing to go back to school after breaks and it breaks my heart. Why do kids grow up so fast?!

Does anyone use daily journal for tracking moods and mental health? My therapist suggested journaling but there are so many options.

My kids were putting the dishwasher rack to sleep on the floor and so lovingly petting it. I guess they desperately need a real pet. 😂

Almost all Christmas has been taken down. All that's left is the tree and changing out the couch pillows and throws.
And in anticipation of the coming snow my husband is out with our new yard robot getting it all prepared for snowblowing. He's so excited he even documented the unboxing. 😆
