My kid was sick and missed the two days before break. Now everyone is going back and, I imagine, lots will be sick on this side of break too. I was just told my niece has croup. We spent a lot of time together this weekend 😭 Oh no!

I had the stomach virus from hell last week and I just know DS is going to pick something up ASAP when he goes back tomorrow.

We had a wonderful trip to Munich, and I brought back a great souvenir… Covid!! Starting feeling off on the plane yesterday but thought I was just exhausted from travel plus my usuals chronic pain issues. But then I woke up in the middle of the night coughing like crazy, covid test this morning lit up within seconds.
Ugh. Luckily I’m still off work this week so I don’t have to worry about sub plans or using sick days.

I happily pushed DS out the door this morning. Two weeks plus one day was plenty.

I’m thinking about having my kid skip the last few days before Christmas next year so she isn’t sick on Christmas Day again. It has happened 4 out of her 11 years, and it really sucks.

Mine had school through the 22nd and go back tomorrow. It seems shorter than usual this year. DH gets the week off between Christmas and NY off too and also goes back tomorrow. Tomorrow is also my first shift back to work after being off almost 7 weeks for surgery. My girls have dance classes starting back up this evening though.
For 2024 I want to work on decluttering and organizing my house for sure. We have a small house and way too much stuff.
I'm also going to be prioritizing my health. I was diagnosed with diabetes and last week started on Mounjaro. I have a lot of weight to lose plus I want to get control over my blood sugars. Week one has gone well!
I also hope to either work more hours (right now I work PRN) at my current job or get an additional job to bring in more income. Starting to apply for things is a little scary since I've been at the same place for 16 years.

The high school here has midterms/finals (depends on semester or year round) right before the holidays. One of my girls weren't done taking tests until 12/21 (aka- our last day before break). I let the other teenager skip the last day since she was done with tests. My husband (a teacher!) was the sick one this year. It is usually one of the kids. Neither MH's district nor ours are back yet. So everyone else is home while I'm trying to WAH. I'm kinda thankful to only have to worry about myself in the morning, but am really missing ROUTINE.

My kids are still off this week. I'm just glad they are self-sufficient My kids are technically self-sufficient, but when H and I are both working all they do is watch YouTube and play video games all day. 😩

My H got me a new fitbit for Christmas after my old one died a few months ago- it was a great gift because I never would have gotten it for myself. BUT it just stopped working and I'm reading now this is a common problem with this version- I feel bad that I will have to go home and tell him it isn't working.

I have figured out how to make myself an affogato at work which is giving me a little joy to look forward to in my afternoons in the office.

Mine have been off since 12/22 and don't go back until next Monday. May I politely suggest that the grass might be a great deal greener, and having children home for two weeks while also trying to work is not as delightful as one might imagine? Because I am counting the fucking minutes. Yes, my kids have been off since 12/21 and go back next Tuesday. If I was not at work right now I would be losing what is left of my mind. I about ran away yesterday. Sounds like we have the same schedule. I left B a small list of things to do today, otherwise I threatened to change the wi-fi password and not give it to him until they're finished. I'll see how much progress he's made when I get home in about an hour...

I happily pushed DS out the door this morning. Two weeks plus one day was plenty. Two weeks feels normal to me, at least that's how long winter break was when I was growing up. It was startling to move here and realize our new district only does one, but I suspect there may be potential/future snow day reasons behind the short time.

I'll see how much progress he's made when I get home in about an hour... I told SD the other day that she had to leave the house. I didn't care where she went or for how long, but she had to go. She acted like I told her to fly a rocket to the moon. I even gave her an errand to run to sell some of my books and told her to keep the money. "But I don't want to spend gas money!" (First of all, get a damn job. I didn't say that out loud.) I told her to take a walk. That was out. She finally took her Kindle to the back patio to read for a while. She's taking care of DS today. I'm curious how that's going. I haven't heard anything, which means they're either great or they're both locked in separate rooms with their own electronics.

And I just got home and tried the manual reset and it is not working. So I guess I'll have to reach out to them.

My kid was off for 11 days and that felt long enough (and we spent 8 of those at the ILs and just the 3 days at home felt long enough 😅). This morning was predictably a shit show but hopefully we can get back to our routine.

We are off until 1/8. I’m fine with it, although I’m not trying to work from home. I was rushing around like a crazy person the day before Christmas Eve and honestly Christmas Eve morning, but now that the holidays are over I’m actually able to get things cleaned out and done at home that I normally don’t have time for. But we’ve all been sleeping in, even the dog. It’s going to be rude awakening next week.

I was not ready at all to go back today. Like literally wanted to cry last night.
I completely realized why I was struggling so hard. For the last year I didn’t have an actual break or summer vacation. Or spring break. Yeah I was out of work but it was by no means relaxing and stress free. This was the first break I was calm and relaxed. And I just needed it to be a little longer. We pretty much just had a week and a day off. Our next break isn’t until end of March. (We have one day for MLK and one for President day. )
