My 6.5yo primarily started Tae Kwon Do so he could protect himself against armed intruders because of all the shit they have to practice at school. He likes it now for other reasons but after every practice so far, he's mentioned how he's learning to defend himself against people that will try to kill him. This is why this country is the worst. He is 6! So we were just in St Barths. It’s insanely safe. One cop for the whole island. I met up with my friend who moved there and he was telling me how he never locks his door, he can leave money on the front seat of his car and people don’t take it. Just stupid safe. Anyway, we were having breakfast and we saw the cop. We pointed out to our 9yo that the cop doesn’t have a gun. He asked why. We said because people don’t have guns here, he doesn’t need a gun. My 9yo said, “that makes me feel so much safer, I was just thinking what would happen if someone came in here with a gun and started shooting.” I haven’t stopped thinking about it. We’re raising our kids to anticipate being shot to death. What a fucking sick country. My 7 year old gets really freaked out to see guns in the wild. (We are in TX, so yeah, it happens) We were in line for lunch one day at a counter service burger place behind a group of cops, and DS grabbed my hand so tightly and whispered, "I wish they didn't have to carry their guns in here because it makes me so nervous." |

H's work's main office is in Florida and that's where we moved from when we came here to Minnesota. They tell him all the time that there's still a spot for him at the office down there whenever we want to move back.
As long as DeSantis is in charge, that will never ever happen.

MH’s grandmother came here from Canada. So, post-2020 election, we figured out it would actually be kinda feasible for us to go there.
Anguilla has a golf course. Cayman Islands. Jamaica. I need to go south.

Mass shootings, wrong place at the wrong time, road rage, on top of just regular gun violence that has been on the rise. My city alone has had 7/11 murders be under the age of 18 and I just can’t with the non gun reform people My husband is very horn happy in the car and I am always telling him he's going to get us shot because of how bad the road rage is now. My 5 yo son has been holding his fingers like a gun recently and it scares me. Not because we are gun hungry people, we are constantly talking about how we don’t play guns, how they are serious and dangerous (most of the lot time he’s meaning it like “ok”. ) But because I don’t trust gun crazy people. A fucking 6 yo girl got shot recently. Grown adults getting triggered and shooting at anyone. I’m scared he will point it at the wrong person who will really shoot. Even DH has told him someone could misinterpret and shoot him. |

The actor/killer is pushing back against his wife who wants him to put all his money into a trust for her and their kids. They have been down this road before, but he is adamant about not doing it. I wonder if there is trouble in the marriage. No more cucumbers.

Truly, if I didn't have parents that I love, I wouldn't stay here. I would be actively getting out. This is me too. My parents are the reason I live in the United States. I mean, my career is very much not suited to move overseas without a lot of work but my H could work basically anywhere. But I can't leave them. I know Canada has all sorts of their own problems but the amount of relief I'd have about guns alone, I'd move the 8 hours north in a heartbeat (well, after all the bureacracy of becoming an expat) otherwise.
