My 6.5yo primarily started Tae Kwon Do so he could protect himself against armed intruders because of all the shit they have to practice at school. He likes it now for other reasons but after every practice so far, he's mentioned how he's learning to defend himself against people that will try to kill him. This is why this country is the worst. He is 6! So we were just in St Barths. It’s insanely safe. One cop for the whole island. I met up with my friend who moved there and he was telling me how he never locks his door, he can leave money on the front seat of his car and people don’t take it. Just stupid safe. Anyway, we were having breakfast and we saw the cop. We pointed out to our 9yo that the cop doesn’t have a gun. He asked why. We said because people don’t have guns here, he doesn’t need a gun. My 9yo said, “that makes me feel so much safer, I was just thinking what would happen if someone came in here with a gun and started shooting.” I haven’t stopped thinking about it. We’re raising our kids to anticipate being shot to death. What a fucking sick country. |

There was just a great thing I saw about this. About how by and large, millennials and Gen Z are voting democrat and we are starting to have a higher number of voters than boomers. I honestly believe change will come. It’s just going to take a bit. Fucking boomers. I have hope too. Through most of my despair, I do have hope. I just have to hope that myself and my loved ones all survive mass gun violence to see it. A fucking men. It's getting through the right nowish years that's got me freaking out. And DS starting public school next August. We're holding him back because other reasons but damn if that extra time doesn't give me some slight relief. |

I dont disagree with any of these points and would definitely like to see someone different in the White House.
I just dont think having Biden give up a second term at this point would be the right time. Let's prepare for that when Biden is done and we have a whole new set of nominees, IMO.

I supported Bernie during both presidential primaries he ran in. Sorry but it will never not be funny as fuck to hear a more progressive candidate losing in the primary being to blame for the winner of the primary losing to the opposition. And to talk about delusions.. lol. I think those are the same people who were unwilling to back down on Elisabeth Warren the second time Bernie ran when she was running on almost exactly the same ideals as Bernie and she was behind even Klobuchar and Pete in the incoming results. There it is. |

Big change can't and won't happen until Congress does a major overhaul of itself. Which is against their interests so it won't happen. I agree with you about gun violence. Nothing will change until boomers and gen x get eclipsed by millennials and gen z in voting numbers. There was just a great thing I saw about this. Hence GOPs changing laws to remove registration within 45 days of an election and removing voting on campuses. They want to make it hard as hell for the young people to vote. |

My daughter tells me that every time we are in a public place, the first thing she does is scope out the nearest exit or hiding place in case someone opens fire. She'll be 13 in two days. Yes, this generation of children is growing up assuming they will be in a mass shooting situation at some point.
But also - I work with middle schoolers (and live with two of them) and I truly do believe that in about 7-10 years, things are going to look much different. We just have to cling on and survive until then.
