For me, I love Pete. If America is ready for a gay candidate, that’s a separate convo. We all know how a woman did. But, if I had my pick of who should be the next candidate, that’s my guy. But, there are other viable people in the Democratic Party: Gavin, Cory, Gretchen, Elizabeth, Amy, Kamala. Some of them aren’t my picks, but there are options. I WILL NOT SAY BERNIE. I agree with you, none of them feel like it’s their time. And I think that goes back to what I said, that behind the scenes, we should have been bringing them to the spotlight, so it feels like a presidential trajectory. Much like the R’s have been doing with White Boots DeSantis. If anyone brings Bernie up as an alternative to Joe Biden being too old & white 😭 Oh they will. The delusion is strong.

I guess I no longer can play the "I wish it were so" game w this, after Trump beating Hilary. It's just brass tacks who has the best shot, and that is Biden at this point. I guess if we have to go old(er) white (straight) man, we also have Phil Murphy and JB Pritzker, in addition to Gavin. The whole thing sucks. It just feels not in the best interest of the party and I’m not feeling very confident.

A sitting president who frankly has done a good job is the best bet we have this cycle.

I can't believe I sit here thinking that we have a better chance with Biden/Trump again because I also want Trump to burn alive, so. Yeah. America sucks and I hate it here but I have no way of leaving any time soon (ever) so yayayyyy

You look at other countries with younger leaders and I do believe they move much more intentional with what’s best for the country. Because they’re younger, because they have children, because they haven’t spent 800 years in office making alliances, taking donations, etc. This isn’t just about Biden, it’s all of Congress. I have little faith in their priorities, because at the end of the day, they are lifelong politicians.
Gun violence is always my #1 issue and I have little faith things will ever change until Gen Z collectively becomes voting age and votes these dinosaurs out.

Cher, I am with you on all that, but I also think it's easier to be young and progressive when you're talking about such smaller countries in both population and world influence.

Non combative question, but who else would it be? I can't think of anyone that would reasonably be an alternative. And I think that goes back to what I said, that behind the scenes, we should have been bringing them to the spotlight, so it feels like a presidential trajectory. Much like the R’s have been doing with White Boots DeSantis. And if the Dems really wanted any of these names to be their frontrunner, they would be churning the machine to make it happen. Pete got skewered in the media the last couple of years, by no fault of his own. The party didn't come to his rescue either, I felt bad for him.

And they get real mad when you point out that the misogyny of that man lead to a lot of the Hillary rhetoric. Sorry willow, but if we want to talk about it here it's going to happen. The politics page is too much in a lot of ways for a lot of us.

Big change can't and won't happen until Congress does a major overhaul of itself. Which is against their interests so it won't happen. I agree with you about gun violence. Nothing will change until boomers and gen x get eclipsed by millennials and gen z in voting numbers.

I very rarely talk politics on the board. Which is funny because in my real life I’m “the political one”. We had K orientation today and my H basically had to hold me back when they were talking open window policies. But, I woke up to that announcement and it’s made me anxious all day because I don’t feel too confident in 2024. Apologies for bringing it here.

About how by and large, millennials and Gen Z are voting democrat and we are starting to have a higher number of voters than boomers. I honestly believe change will come. It’s just going to take a bit. Fucking boomers.

What's an open window policy Cher? Like, we were talking about school safety and if the ground floor windows were allowed to be opened. I’m hissing at my H, “i hope everyone who is okay with making kindergarten a prison, also doesn’t vote for candidates that kill our kids.” MH was like okkkkk, people can hear you.

My dad has turned from a disinterested Republican in the 80s to a reply guy pinko liberal on Twitter who regularly tells GOP politicians that they are morons, and it's so nice to know that when I say fuck Boomers, it's not him.
He likes to send me his ratios. It's hilarious.

My 6.5yo primarily started Tae Kwon Do so he could protect himself against armed intruders because of all the shit they have to practice at school.
He likes it now for other reasons but after every practice so far, he's mentioned how he's learning to defend himself against people that will try to kill him. This is why this country is the worst. He is 6!
