My youngest is home today with strep. It's sad that a strep diagnosis is almost a relief since it's easily treated. Now we just have to hope our pharmacy has the antibiotics. The doctor at urgent care said even they can't get tylenol or ibuprofen. Thankfully we had one of each on hand already and it's not expired 😬 If you have a children's hospital with a pharmacy, that might be a good place to look for antibiotics if other places are out

DD3 is home with a mystery virus today. I took her to the doctor- not strep, flu, or COVID and not ear/sinus.
and add us to the list of not being able to find medicine. Her fever has been insanely high so we have needed to alternate. Welp- no tylenol or generic anywhere. So hopefully ibuprofen alone will be enough.

Well my DH finally got it, after missing the first round in our house in June. Yay! /s Wow, he had an impressive run! I'm sorry, though. I hope it's very mild.

The twins got their bivalent boosters on Saturday. I'm hoping/assuming this is the last round of shots until fall, right? When hopefully we can all just get one flu/covid shot in one go?
The messaging about under 5s and the bivalent booster has been terrible though. Both of my BFFs (with toddlers) had no idea it was approved and they aren't living under rocks or anything.

Had Christmas with my husband's extended family the 28-31. My daughter woke up one the 1st vomiting and had a fever. Gave her a Covid test, negative. Vomited all day, next day felt junky and slept all day, same the next. Then developed a cough and congestion. Then find out my sister in law is Covid positive. I should have tested her again, but thought she just had the flu. Then Friday evening I started to feel cold like symptoms. Tested myself yesterday since I am immunocompromised. Bright positive. So I immediately tested my daughter and hers was positive too. So now school is counting her positive test as the first day and she can't return to school until next Monday. She already missed all of last week being sick. I don't want her to get anyone else sick, so it is what it is. But we have been home together for weeks now. 5 of us now from that gathering all have it. Thankfully my symptoms are mild and I work from home.

I need to get DS his booster. I was waiting until this late this week at the earliest when I can walk again in case he has bad side effects and can help MH. He didn't have any from his other Moderna shots but you never know.

leahcar I'm sorry she's feeling so sick. I hope her fever comes down with just the ibuprofen.

Yea, it's as if no one has heard of it being approved. Even some medical professionals were surprised when I mentioned my 2YO getting it.

Now I just need to pick it up after getting her sister from school. I just hope she can keep it down, she's still throwing up/dry heaving on occasion. Thankfully the last time was an hour after her tylenol so it had a chance to kick in before she threw it all up.

Happy to ship you some if you want it. Tepid baths are also a really good way to (temporarily)bring down a high temp quick. It absolutely sucks because Luke warm water feels frigid when you’ve got a high temp but we used to use them all the time with DS1 to drop his temp while waiting for the meds to kick in - he always spiked from normal to 104+ with any ear infection.

Uh. This seems insane to me. They are really over-compensating for not letting Djokovic play last year (he refused vaccination to the point that they cancelled his visa and deported him).

I had my kids scheduled for their third "normal" shot, because I was told that three pfizer shots made a primary series and that was that. Then they were cancelled at the last minute, because apparently now you don't need a third non-bivalent shot? Just a bivalent booster? But no one has those, so I guess it'll wait until well checks or next flu season because I honestly am out of bandwidth to play the shot-chasing game. Yeah, we got moderna but I saw that too about Pfizer. Both of my friends had the Pfizer 3 series too so then they were bummed that they couldn’t get the booster lol.

Yes, they don’t like it but it’s kept us out of the ER more than once middle of the night!

Putting my fevered child in a tepid bath always freaks me out because I have City of Angels trauma. Also bicycles. And pears.

My 3yo's primary series was Moderna, but I can't find a bivalent booster for him either. And I'm tired.

notblanche Have you checked Walgreens? The Walgreens around here are doing Moderna bivalent for 3 and up. I just couldn't schedule there since the twins don't turn 3 until April (which also is like, wait WTF they are 3 in April? hah).

No pediatrician offices around me are offering any covid shots and the local children's hospital only did Pfizer for under 5s. It shouldn't be this hard!

It's beyond infuriating that we've waited this long and there is so little effort to actually get the shots into little kids.

It's beyond infuriating that we've waited this long and there is so little effort to actually get the shots into little kids. My peditrician's office said that for my <5 that has completed pfizer preliminary series, and had covid 2 weeks ago, they should come back for bivalent in 60ish days. Honestly, depending on the covid situation at that time, I might just wait until he turns 5/back to school to get covid and flu together.

Did they approve bivalent boosters for kids under 5 that had 3 Pfizer shots? I did wait 60+ days post COVID to get both kids their boosters.

I saw a tiktok (so I don't know if it's actually true, lol) that some places in Europe have a combination home rapid test of covid, flu a and b, and rsv. If this is real when can we get this here? That would be so nice to have.
My poor kiddo with strep has been sleeping all day the past two days. I was planning to send her back to school tomorrow but now I may keep her home another day. This is hitting her a lot harder than it has in the past. Usually she bounces back really quickly after starting antibiotics.
