Thanks for checking in, ended up being a whirlwind weekend. DD2 tested positive for influenza A on Friday so she’s been on the mend. We flew to MN yesterday and now are waiting out this winter storm in our hotel. At least the girls got to see grandparents last night/today and got to play in snow. May have to go across street to liquor store if the winds keep us trapped at the hotel. DH is racing to escape Chicago before the storm gets there.
I hope you and your family have a happy and healthy holidays

Ok but China had still been on full lockdown mode right? Like they finally started lifting some restrictions, no? So it’s like all our surges in one, in a way. Right? I just can’t accept another thought process lol

I just can’t accept another thought process lol Yeah they had been doing really strict lockdowns. I read on Reddit that the vaccine they're using over there kind of sucks and not everyone is vaccinated.

I'm a little worried about the economic impact of China's surge. We really should have taken some steps to not be so dependent on them in the last 2.5 years. Medical supplies, medicine, etc

I'm very finger-in-ears-can't-hear-you-lalala about the news from China. I cannot.
ETA: I'm not trying to dismiss the seriousness of the outbreak or the cascading consequences of it. I'm just tired. It's been almost three years of this beast and every time it seems things are getting better, another setback comes, you know?

My mom is hospitalized and now has COVID. She’s elderly and normally in poor health so it’s especially brutal.
I am so disappointed at the hospital protocols though. She tested positive on her fourth day in the hospital. But she showed up symptomatic and they didn’t test her until day 4?! So who knows how many nurses, aides, etc she contaminated. She was moved to the COVID floor and we were given a list of protocols. And…little to no protocols are actually happening. I feel so bad for the staff. How - in year THREE- are they just wearing surgical masks around someone with known COVID?!
I am sad and pissed off. That’s basically all I can do from here.

I'm so sorry, leahcar. I hope she can recover smoothly, despite the dysfunctional procedures of the hospital. That is mind-boggling at this stage.

DD brought Covid home for winter break, so now we're on day 12 of everyone being stuck in the house. DS tested positive a full week after she did, and I am a couple days behind. We're now isolating H who has had symptoms but consistently tested negative (we have an at home NAAT device that is close to PCR accuracy) so that he's clear for our Disney trip in 2 weeks, but I did make him go get a PCR yesterday, because it's too weird that he has something completely different than covid. Thankfully we're all really mild, just over being in the house together.

Really mild cold symptoms plus a little fatigue. My mom now has similar symptoms, a little worse, but is repeatedly negative on both rapids and PCRs, over the course of several days, and also negative for flu and rsv. So confusing, right?? Either multiple false positives, multiple false negatives, or they just really have two separate things.

jr I never tested positive while COVID was in our house January 2022. I definitely had symptoms, but had 2 negative PCRs and countless negative at home tests. My doctor said treat it like a positive and move on. I was not so lucky on the next round.

I am headed to TN to see my mom; she took a really bad turn. Adulting truly sucks sometimes; I am dreading what is next.
Per my doctor’s advice since I’m still recovering from surgery - I am pacing in compression stockings. (And eating rescue anxiety meds- whee!)
She is still on the COVID floor. I have N95s, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, Lysol. Can you think of anything else that would lower my chances?

You could do gloves and ask about a hosp gown if you know how to keep from cross contamination as you take them off. Immune system boosters zinc vit c airborne kinda thing. I'm so sorry

Anytime I leave a higher risk situation I change clothes and shower as soon as I get home. Also brush teeth and use mouthwash. I also have sometimes used Xlear nasal spray. Very sorry 😞
