My 6 year old requested to wear a mask to school today because she doesn't want to get sick again. Poor kiddo.

My 4 year old is getting boosted today. I was smart and scheduled it so my husband would have to take her.

DD2 seems to be feeling fine since she took a nap so 🤞🏼 On a side note, anyone have any tricks for getting chocolate milk vomit out of carpet 😫 I've tried 2 different enzyme pet cleaners that usually work with vomit, vinegar, and baking soda (which got the smell out at least). I might try hydrogen peroxide next but will that bleach the carpet? I’ve had good luck with blue Dawn dish soap pour directly on the stain with a cup of warm water poured in too. I use a tooth brush to scrub the area vigoursly and let it set. Then I use my little rug shampooer to shampoo the area and repeat the process. It’s tedious but has been helpful on stubborn stains.

They are doing another round of the free USPS tests. It was buried in an article I read and I haven’t seen it many places so not sure how many people are aware of it.
I put in my order a couple days ago and got an email this morning saying the tests should arrive this week.

Thanks! I tried dawn with vinegar earlier and it seemed to help get some out. I may just have to keep working at it. I wish I had a shampooer. I may have to see if my parents have one I can borrow.

I put in my order a couple days ago and got an email this morning saying the tests should arrive this week. I ordered mine the first day they were available (Thurs, I think?) and got them today. I'm glad they are doing it again but it's definitely not a good sign 😬

I’m sick again. According to rapid tests, it’s not COVID, but it’s kicking my ass. Ugh. Go away, germs.

Yeah I had to keep repeating it. I’d let it sit for maybe 20 mins between scrubbing. I have one of those green machine shampooers and it’s soooo handy for stuff like this!

So everything I'm reading says that if you're up to date on your sequence of vax, you'll need to test on day 3-4 of symptoms for a positive, plus swab your throat, cheeks and nose for the most accurate result. There are apparently a lot of false negatives out there on rapids (which is extra terrible when you consider impending holiday gatherings).

We have lots of tests and more on the way, so I’ll do a throat and cheek swab tomorrow. I have a mild fever and absolutely no stamina, in addition to the normal respiratory issues, which has me wondering. I caught it from DD, who of course was feeling better within a day. We’re supposed to travel to my parents’ on Friday. Between illness and weather, I’m worried we’ll be stuck at home.

I haven’t been around much, but we got hit hard with Flu A recently. Two of us never got sick, but three had varying degrees of illness. It definitely hit harder than Covid did and I was surprised to have it not be Covid but flu. If your urgent care can do a swab for all potential illnesses, it helps give some peace of mind and answers.
The lingering cough with the flu was really bad for my kids. It’s on the other side now but it was a rough couple weeks.

Am I supposed to keep my kid home with a mild cough and no fever and negative COVID (rapid) test? And for how long? I know there's a lot more than COVID going around but there are also run-of-the-mill colds going around so what are you supposed to do? If I had to keep her home for every time she coughed or runny nose she'd never leave the house. Sometimes a cough is just a cough. Also, coughs can last forever and not be indicative of anything contagious. I think every kid I saw at the library today had boogers crusted under their nose. Our school guidance clearly states kids should stay home with a "new" cough that isn't due to other factors (e.g. allergies or lingering from a past illness). I think that's solid advice.

DD1 has a stomach bug. She can't keep anything down, but has no other symptoms. I'm blaming the family that took their sick kid to the library on Tuesday night for the ornament making workshop. Like WTF does that? It's not covid, she's been tested a couple times this week, but so much nastiness is going around. Solidarity my friend. My DD2 can’t keep anything down and is running a fever of 102.7-103. Of course DH is out of town right now Oh nooooo I'm so sorry 😔

My mom is positive and texted this morning asking if she could come isolate in our guest room since she lives alone and was dizzy and lightheaded. She said she'd feel better with people around (obviously). She has had symptoms for almost a week at this point, so I am hoping she's toward the end of the worst of it.

It’s been almost 2 weeks and my kids are still coughing and tired. It hit so much harder than Covid did.

flora The urgent care gave us albuterol and a nebulizer which helped get over the cough. We just couldn’t get ahead of the sleepless nights to help their bodies start recovering.

That's good. It'd be also good if they updated the vaccine website to include boosters for the 6 mos-5 year olds.

So FIL is sick. With what, we don't know. But he's supposed to be heading here starting on Thursday and spend four days with us for Christmas. Which may not be happening now.

I'm already a little concerned about him traveling. As we're going to be getting really bad winter weather Thursday and Friday.

Just came across this story on the bird app about The orange and white tests. www.wltx.com/article/news/health/coronavirus/another-batch-of-ihealth-covid-19-at-home-test-kits-found-faulty-dhec-reports-columbia-southcarolina/101-2d8315fc-c9a8-4849-b513-9a474abd9a55Lot info and chunk of text from link Kits from lot #221CO20203 Exp. 2022/08/02 should be discarded in household trash. Replacement kits may be obtained from DHEC county health departments. Lot numbers and expiration dates on the iHealth test kits can be found on the back of the box. Please note this expiration date was approved for extended use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
In October, DHEC reported iHealth rapid test kits with lots 221CO20130 Exp: 7/29/2022 221CO20103 Exp: 7/2/2022 221CO20124 Exp: 7/23/2022
also had faulty cartridges. DHEC says it is important to remember the faulty cartridge issue is with this brand of home test kit and these lots only. The agency is discarding all of the affected lots in its possession, and no other brand or other lots should be a cause for concern. If you should have kits with any of the lot numbers listed, throw them away.

Well, that's great. Those were the kind we've been using the past few months and just ran out of a couple weeks ago. I have no idea if they would have been in this batch or not.
