Car is being covered by warranty and I got a vehicle that fits everyone (fuck overlapping seatbelts and those who keep perpetuating their return forever and ever). Yippee!

willow, that is amazing news. I’m so happy for you. AAC changed our lives. clucky, my son w/CAS was diagnosed as having global apraxia, that was why his motor skills were slow to develop. It’s not noticeable to anyone else now, but it still is to us. He does not like physical activities (sports) because they are very hard for him to learn. But he’s snowboarding this year and is doing great.

beaf12 it is funny you mentioned sports, mine is the same, but says “next year he will play basketball” and I was just excited he wanted to try soccer again. How old is yours? His finger dexterity is ahead, but the moment his wrist or more strength is needed, it is too much. He is 7, and we just tackled snaps (thanks Target for switching from the slide fastener). He still has some uncommon verbal substitutions, but he is doing so much better and it makes me emotional to think how far he has come.

He’s 12. Organized sports were a no-go. Skateboarding was ok until the ramps got too high, then his anxiety kicked in. Snowboarding has been the biggest success because falling doesn’t hurt so much. He’s taken 3 days of lessons for several years, but this year we signed him up for a snowboarding club. Every Sunday, all day, including 3 hours of lessons. He’s liking it.

I picked up my new glasses this morning and thanks to being 41 years old, I'm now the proud wearer of progressives. I'm feeling so seasick right now.

But also my eyes are jacked because one is far sighted and the other is near sighted and the eye doctor told me my brain might never adjust and it might just make me ill all the time. I'm holding out hope though!

I'm sure everyone is tired of the weather anecdotes from Minnesotans but my employer continues to be infuriating. Literally a blizzard tomorrow (and 8 inches of snow today) and subzero temperatures with double digit negative wind chills and they've told us that we will not be closing early tonight or at all tomorrow. Really makes the all the emails and posts and speeches they give about valuing their employees feel really....insincere.
Listen, Deborah will be ok if she doesn't get the newest James Patterson tomorrow, OK.

fatpony That’s no good. The panicked library visits before Christmas always were a pain too. Everyone is so rushed and impatient. Our local library just got a remote locker for the branch and it is great for instances like weather closures. Someone could request a book and access the locker whenever they want without the library needing to be open.

Listen, Deborah will be ok if she doesn't get the newest James Patterson tomorrow, OK. They sent an email around our office reiterating County policy that we need to be in the office or take flex or get a special request to WFH if we have already used our WFH days. It is so insanely stupid. Our entire office was home for over a year and we functioned just fine. Literally no one comes to our building to see us. It will be a few days before Christmas. Jesus Christ. Two of 3 of my kids' schools closed already for tomorrow so I'm home either way and was already planning to use it as a WFH day but still. It is so stupid that they are willing to endanger lives instead of just closing the buildings except for essential business.

I’m SO glad I’m off work. I know I’d end up being stuck sleeping at work and rotating half shifts throughout the holiday with the hospital declaring it internal disaster mode.
I hope everyone that has to work stays safe.

This is dd1's first winter navigating life things and adulting. She is NOT looking forward to prepping for a blizzard and power outages while still needing to try to get to work. I'm just glad she lives in town so we can help her out (perhaps literally out of the snow) if she needs it.
Dh is considering closing altogether for Friday & Saturday and letting his staff have the whole long holiday weekend (they're already closed Sunday & Monday). I hope he does.

Tomorrow is supposed to be DH's last day before the holiday, but he's on his way home sick. The kids gave him their stomach bug, so he'll be calling in tomorrow regardless. It's just as well, no one will be in his building but him anyways.

We found out last night that our district was closed today and tomorrow. Our winter break starts Friday. I’m off work until the 9th! I expected no school Thursday, but today was a pleasant surprise. The roads are shit, so I’m glad they called it. The NWS has said driving Thursday and Friday will be treacherous, it’s crazy all the companies that remain open.

We’re tentatively heading to MN the day after Christmas. I didn’t think to check the forecast until all these posts. Yeesh. I knew the winter storm is supposed to be intense but didn’t realize it was hitting you all so quickly. I think we got the wind but not the chill like other areas.

We made it to AZ! The flight was fine. I was in a middle seat in the last row, but I wore my boot to my seat and had in a compression sock and slipped another ankle brace over it and then put a supportive shoe on. I didn’t really move at all and then put the boot on when we landed.

I need cookie baking supplies, and had originally planned to get them tomorrow morning but may reconsider... I could go Saturday morning I guess but that's cutting it a little close lol. Or we'll just leave Santa a banana muffin...

Nice little break from all those cookies.
