My oldest was a bit under the weather Friday so I canceled all of our weekend plans and we stayed home and I'm glad I did, bc he tested positive last night. He's fine, just a really annoying cough. Oh no! I hope he feels better quickly and the rest of you don’t get it.

Yeah I don’t know how helpful an annual shot will be if effectiveness wanes within a few months. Hopefully they know something we don’t about longer lasting vaccines coming out? It sounds like given the % of people with shots in arms, that their most likely path of compliance is annual. I don't get the impression that anything longer lasting is around the corner, but it's being worked on for sure. And who knows what the next VOC will be or if a new formula will be required. Right, but once again I don’t like the public health recommendations being driven by “likely compliance of the general public”.

I tested positive today after all this time. My symptoms are mainly headache that isn’t responding to meds, and chills. Got some Paxlovid, anyone have any anecdotes for me on how they did on it? I’m nervous to take it 😬 but I will of course.

I’m nervous to take it 😬 but I will of course. I had no real side effects from it as far as I could tell. It seemed to have a huge role in how quickly I felt better. No covid rebound. Overall I would 100% recommend to people to take it.

geekygirly, DD (2nd grade) is still masking. I have noticed one other girl in her class that sometimes does as well. She hasn't brought it up to me and seems to just accept that it's what we do. I've told her that we're working really hard to avoid it since we go to Disney in November. I terrified of getting it before then and suffering from the fatigue that so many seem to report for weeks and months after. Too much $ to be too tired to enjoy it even though I know we could still get it. Since I work at her school, I have the luxury of having her each lunch with me away from the other kids. I struggle with this decision, but again, right now we have a goal we're working towards. She did push back on it some the other day, so I know I will have to let her at some point. I encourage her to eat fast, and then I let her join her friends to socialize some. If she truly got upset about it, I would reconsider. It's just so hard, and I feel like there is no winning either way.

@geekgirly my son is in third too and he says he's the only one masking. The kids haven't had COVID yet so trying to prevent that as long as possible, but starting to worry about the social impact on him. Mh and I get our boosters on Thursday and then may let them decide after two weeks. My k daughter doesn't seem to care and said more kids wear them in her class. This is hard.

My parents are just getting over it and opted not to do paxlovid after talking with their primary care. Their pcp told them they until day 4 to change their mind if they wanted but based on my parents symptoms were comfortable with them waiting to see. My mom was really concerned about the rebound effect.

beerlover my only side effect was a nasty taste in my mouth. I felt better so fast once I started Paxlovid. Would absolutely do it again. I’m sorry dc2london. I hope it stays mild and skips the rest of you.

I just had an appointment with a possible new primary care doctor. She did not know that novavax had already been approved... but she said that she was going to see if it might be something her office would be able to give or if she knows a colleague that is distributing it that she could send me to to get one. I waited an 1.25 hours past my appointment time to talk to her, so we shall see!
ETA her first impression for all of my weird stuff was that is a different type of long covid, which I had been suspicious about. It's all so weird!

Forgot to order pickup and we needed a few things from the store. Ran into someone I worked with and they said “oh, I almost didn’t recognize you with your mask. You trying to hold up the place?” Me clearly not amused “Yeah, I’m not trying to manage Covid again.” He starts telling me some off the rails story about sitting in the ¡ER! with his sick dad having a billion tests done. ::chuckling:: Turns put it was Covid. ::laughing:: Asked what I wanted to do, we sent him home with mom. She was worried, but I told her ‘you already live with him, what’s the big deal?’ So we sent him home.” Me “Yeah, my uncle was healthy and died from Covid. I don’t find it funny at all” and walked away.
And now I will remember to order for pick up no matter how tired I am.
ETA I forgot the line about “I didn’t know we were still doing that.” I’m proud that I stayed in my body for the interaction, because fucking moron.

Sorry for all the new positives. Hoping everyone is able to keep it from spreading. athn64 that sounds like a lot and it would be so hard. I was struggling pretty bad and I wasn’t also sick. I’m sorry, hoping it is over soon and no one else gets it. Sorry, I cannot remember the other tags and mobile doesn’t populate for me. Mine are some of the only ones wearing masks too. So far, no one has said anything, but they are supposed to be wearing when exposed, before testing and for 5 days after the 5 day isolation time. That being said, there have been, less than a month in, some others wearing masks more “randomly” from what I see at pick up. 10yo was testing negative by day 6. His complaint also started as a complaint about his throat, but this is also something that bothers him with his allergies. By the next morning, he was positive. It was 5 days after his friend tested positive, whom he saw that afternoon, unmasked at recess. Returning to activities- we would have gone back if it wasn’t so hot to be practicing outside in a mask. We skipped because of the heat, especially since they tested negative those respective days.

::head desk head desk head desk:: Every time one of the kids is home sick I get the panicked robocall/text/email that they're absent but I didn't let the school know. I always let the school know. I even showed MH my call history this morning that I called the boys' schools last night and DD's school this morning and said, "Which school will it be today that pretends I never called?" If anyone is playing along at home, yesterday it was S1's school, today it was S2's.

Thanks for the advice/anecdotes! I think if the tests are negative and (probably more of an issue) we feel like we can handle taking them, we will. This definitely is harder on us than the kids. dc2london, that fever sounds rough! I hope he starts feeling better soon. We have had the same issues with school attendance not recording correctly. They switched (again) to a new system and it's been a bit of a mess. I got a text and email about the youngest missing today, but it also said to ignore if I've already talked to the school. I did yesterday and told them she would be out the rest of the week. I'm assuming that counts? But I didn't get the text/email yesterday so 🤷♀️ it's preK but it's through our school district.

I missed my vax appointment today. Lol at me thinking I could squeeze that in between dismissal at my school and the bus getting home dropping the girls off on the first day of school.
I'll go Saturday.

Out of curiosity I asked the pharmacist today how popular thre new booster was and he said it was so popular that they aren’t doing any walk ins for covid or flu shots for a week or two due to how many people had signed up at this location. He said he was booked straight through with shots every ten minutes for the next week st least.
I’m glad that there’s st least a little demand here.
