Are all those Greek people related to Phillip? Prince Philip's father and Constantine II's grandfather were brothers. I've been fascinated with Queen Victoria's genealogy for years and the way her descendents spanned across so many European monarchies. For example, Pavlos and Marie-Chantal were at the jubilee because Queen Margrethe II is his aunt (his mother's older sister) and Margrethe herself is a distant cousin of Queen Elizabeth. *Excuse my nerding. Can you tell I know no one who appreciates that part of history? 😄 I have gotten lost in the rabbit hole that is European royal family tree many a times. The sheer volume of inbreeding is crazy. |

I've decided to block. #selfcare +1 I blocked months ago. And not to say someone is wrong for having mixed emotions or 100% negative emotions about the death of QE II and her legacy. I have them and have stated as such, but I can also think of her as a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and can absolutely empathize with her grieving family right now. But where this particular shit-stirrer poster is concerned, I feel kind of like the scene in The Crown between Tommy Lascelles and the Duke of Windsor applies: Duke of Windsor: "You know, Tommy, you're an embarrassment to the institution you serve, and to the country that institution serves in turn." Tommy: "And I will take a lecture on national embarrassment from many people, sir, but not from you." |

I do think it's ok to use this thread to talk about the shit side of the monarchy, I just wish it wasn't being done by someone so dedicated to trolling. Because I think it's an important part of the conversation, and we need to respect that some folks truly don't feel bad about the queen passing and that's ok. I don’t think it’s lost on anyone that this is all very complicated, right? Especially in here. I just don’t appreciate the blatant trolling. She isn’t trying to have a conversation on a nuanced topic, she’s trying to fight about literally anything she can. She was pissed about a sandwich several pages ago. |
