Wait... this might have been discussed before. Will was Wiliam Wales growing up right? Then William Cambridge after wedding now back to William Wales right? Yes.

I thought they went by Mountabatten-Windsor. I think only non titled royals do, Harry and William used the Last Name Wales while in the military as well. At one point I know Harry was “Captain Wales”.

I thought they went by Mountabatten-Windsor. Technically Mountbatten-Windsor is the surname for the descendants of the Queen, but they've been all over the place with names, usually using their "highest" title ETA: this is all "new" for their generation because many previous royals were homeschooled and didn't have a need for a last name

People are always trying to snatch up titles.

I just did a deep dive on this. At least in the military both boys used Wales. Harry was “Captain Wales” and Wills was “Flight Lieutenant Wales”. Found on the royal.uk website. It’s possible at University William used Mountbatten-Windsor? The website didn’t say.

I mean I doubt they have the headache of having to go have their names changed like at the DMV and have people that do it for them. But that is where my mind went

Nobody else does, everyone else uses titles or in the case of Zara and Peter, they have their father’s last name. It did say that Beatrice and Eugenie were styled that way at birth but later adopted the “York” title as their last name. Now, of course, they’re both married and have taken their husband’s names.

Did Eugenie's husband go with her to any of the stuff today? I don't think Bea's did but he did post something online earlier.

Because the back of his drag suit for swimming had WW on it. 🤦🏽♀️

I'm pretty sure both Will and Harry only used Wales as children, never Mountbatten-Windsor, primarily because Charles was Prince of Wales from age 20ish onwards.

There's that clip of him graduating, then Kate, when QEII nudges Phillip as Kate walks.

Then don’t go. Or watch it. Do you live in the Uk? I obviously wont be doing either. How is that relevant to me posting something about it on the internet? 🙄🙄🙄

I have to admit, seeing the foursome together again has me in my feels, as has hearing the cheers for all, Meghan included, and some in the crowd hugging Meghan. Yes! I’m late but I loved this.

Hypothetical question: if Charles dies while Will's kids are still minors, what would their names be when their dad is king? Anyone know what Anne/Andrew/Edward went by when they were kids?
Also, what duchies are left to give to the Cambridge kids when they grow up/marry? Other than the Edinburgh one, which could possibly be given to Edward as speculated.

It said QE last name was Windsor so that's what Charles' is now? I'm guessing it's Windsor-Mountbatten but all the things I'm clicking on just say Windsor

I think there was a whole thing about Phillip and Elizabeth's kids being Windsor because P felt snubbed that they wouldn't have his name? Based on an episode of the Crown I watched years ago. Dukedoms are pulled out of thin air. Cambridge was resurrected after like 200+ years for William and Kate.

Then don’t go. Or watch it. Do you live in the Uk? I don't care about your feels on philo. But this mentality is annoying to me. Where i live currently does not dictate how I feel about the polítics or policies of my other home country. Most of us not living in the country we grew up in still have family there and care very deeply about what happens there. Don't bring in bs like that to this conversation. Am I not allowed to ask? She has very strong feelings and I am curious if she lives there. I never said one way or another what my intent was with asking. Also, I have no idea if she is British or not. I do have family in the Uk, children born there, and my husband is from there. So it came from a place of curiosity, not trying to bring bs into this.

Before Elizabeth was Queen the house was just Windsor so without googling I think that’s what their last name would have been, if they used them. After she became Queen they changed to Mountbatten-Windsor because Philip was a big strong manly man who demanded his name be used too damn it. So I guess after that they would have been styled M-W, but I don’t know if they really used a last name. Possible dukedoms for Wills kids are endless. There are so fucking many. I couldn’t begin to speculate.

I cannot fathom having to process my grief and also console the public. I have wondered if it would be triggering for them, as the viewing of flowers etc was like what they did when Diana died. 😔 This is one of the less cited reasons I think the monarchy should be abolished - it is traumatizing for its participants just by the way it’s structured. This is not a normal way to human.

It will be interesting to see if any of will and Kate’a kids take York. I’d want to stay far away from it.
Also Google told me that Edward decided he liked the “Wessex” title after watching Shakespeare in Love. And that also he has had to wait for the Duke of Edinburgh to revert to the crown which only happened once Charles became king? Idk if that’s true.
