I’m getting DS (almost 6) his booster tomorrow. He’s never given me problems with shots until recently - his first Pfizer shot hurt going in (he says) so he freaked out at the second dose and H and I had to hold him down. At least that was at a children’s clinic where they were totally cool about it. We warned him that he’s getting a booster tomorrow and he instantly started sobbing. He seemed better after I said he could look at my phone while the shot is going in, and get a donut after (the pharmacy is in a grocery store). I hope he’s not a total mess, and that whoever giving the shot is okay with kids. If anyone has any tips I’m all ears 🤣 My newly 6 year old just got his at the pharmacy and he is terrified of shots. The pharmacist kept trying to talk to him and explain what she was doing. I finally said, he’s not going to chill out, I’ll hold him, just do the shot quickly and get it over with. He screamed. But it was fast and then all he cared about was watching YouTube on my phone and if we were going to buy the stuffie we had seen across the store. So I guess my tips are bribes (which you seem to have covered) and to just get it over with as quickly as possible.

My 6 year old was fine for the first two shots but panicked at the booster because the pharmacist (a different one) talked about about how the shot hurts a little but not much and it freaked him out. Then said pharmacist refused to give him the shot so I need to figure out a new plan because I’m pretty sure that place is just ruined for DS now haha I’ll have to try a different pharmacy

Ugh, that sucks, teraiin, and I hope you figure out another option! I'm hoping that doesn't happen to us. Our options are really limited here. His pediatrician offers it once a month only, and the last two dates didn't work for us. The grocery store pharmacy is the only other place that offers it for that young.

I have a couple ideas I’m just trying to decide. The play I brought the twins is 100% okay wirh needing to hold a kid down but obviously… I’d prefer to not have to… lol also their availability is extremely narrow… which is what it is But I also don’t want him to panic again because that’s not going to help him get over his anxiety and then it’s just not fair to anyone… Eta: I hope it works out well for you guys! 🤞🏻

I shouldn’t find this surprising given how everything has been handled and yet…

Welp. I’m doing my planning for our next fiscal year (starts next month) guess I should factor in insurance companies hassles for Covid vaccines and tests. I’m guessing the public health emergency will not be extended in October. Joy.

My insurance just started charging for PCR tests. I guess we had a good run on free tests, or something. *grumble*

For those getting their or their kid's covid boosters now-ish, are you also getting flu vax done at the same time? I need to hear pro/cons on getting them both out of the way with my little ones next week.

Oh good, that's just great. 😑 Stupid GQP. Thankfully, IL still has their free saliva testing. But I wonder how that will last.

I just took my daughter (3) to get her second shot and son (5) his booster and both also got the flu shot at the same time with no issues. My daughter has a lot of health issues and she just slept most of the day. My son was still his usual self bouncing off the walls. I was hoping he'd at least be a little tired but nope. Just complained about a sore arm the next day when I hugged him.

I have to get this out somewhere. Today is my school district’s back to school day for staff. Our superintendent decided to return to the huge all staff kick off. We are talking 300+ adults in a gym. With masks not required. Does he just want us to have half the staff out with Covid for the start of the year? I’ve avoided crowds in my personal life (I’m still living a fairly pre-Covid life-hanging with close friends and stuff)-but no large indoor gatherings. And now I’m required to do this. Wtf.
Ok this will be a post and run

I am so nervous about all of the in person activities in the beginning of the year. ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) Our school also does "home visits" in the beginning of the year. This year they can be in person or virtual, but it is up to the families to decide. I have only done them when I was first hired in 2019, but I didn't like it pre-Covid. And now with Zoom, there is no reason that we have to be going to the family's homes. The teacher I am with can be very persuasive so I am sure she will encourage families to do it virtually

Oh good, that's just great. 😑 When my kids had COVID recently, I tested Mh and me every 36 hours for a week — so we went through a lot of tests. But we've been able to get free tests from insurance, right? They've said you can get eight per family member per month. I went to order some to pick up from the pharmacy, because I know other people who've been able to do this, and was denied. Then I called my insurance and they said, Oh no. We'll *reimburse* you for up to eight tests per month. It made me so mad. How are people supposed to do the right thing then if they're forced to choose between food and COVID tests?!

I'm not sure what we'll do re: masking for my kindergartener. The last month or so of preschool he masked inside the building in public areas and when he went inside the toddler room for drop off but unmasked in his classroom and outside. I am inclined to let him do similarly at school plus masking on the bus. Do anyone else's kids do this? What do the kids do with their masks when they're not wearing them? I was thinking about getting a zipper pouch to clip to his backpack, maybe? Or do you think it's not worthwhile if he's going to be unmasked in the classroom and eating in the cafeteria anyway? I'm expecting near zero other kids masking.
