Anecdotal but I follow a few doctors on tiktok and they all say if they had a choice they would do Moderna since it's a higher "dose". I've done all Moderna because I didn't have a choice when it first came out and I've just stuck with it. Man my latest Pfizer booster knocked me out pretty good. Idk how I’d do with Moderna. Moderna will go one of two ways, knock you on your ass for three days like mine did, or do absolutely nothing side effects wise like it did for my mom.

I haven’t been following as closely. So the new boosters, will those be approved for all? Right now I’m not allowed to get a second booster shot yet.

I think we have to wait for the CDC guidelines, but I expect they will be for everyone, since it's such a strong strain. ETA and by strong, I mean that it's very infectious.

This email is from a local pharmacy, sent Thursday evening. Thought it may be helpful information to share.
“Today, the CDC signed off on recommendations for Pfizer and Moderna's new bivalent COVID vaccine formulations to be used as a booster dose. These new formulations are a mix of the original strain and an Omicron specific strain.
Who is eligible? Pfizer's bivalent COVID vaccine is approved for those 12 and older. Moderna's bivalent COVID vaccine is approved for those 18 and older. Both are approved as a single booster dose given at least 2 months after completion of the primary vaccination series with any COVID vaccine or the most recent booster dose. Who is not eligible? Children under 12 are not yet eligible. Those that are 5-11 years old are still eligible for the original, monovalent Pfizer vaccine for a single booster. Those that have not completed a primary series with any COVID vaccine.
When can I schedule an appointment?
We initially expected the vaccine to arrive next Tuesday, but it is currently slated to arrive tomorrow. An additional email will be sent when the vaccine has arrived and appointment scheduling has opened up. Please do not call into the pharmacy asking about availability. Updates will come via email and be published on our website.”

YLE has a post out today about when to get your boosters and how to proceed. Most of it doesn’t apply to me (it’s been over three months since I was infected and I haven’t gotten a booster since November) but it’s interesting food for thought

Walgreens is making appointments for the updated booster. Just scheduled my booster and flu shot for the 12th. First appointments for the booster were for the 7th.

So at what point are you safe to assume "just a cold"? Both my kids now have had a less than 24 hours (more like 12) with a mild fever and sore throat with negative tests once. Is it okay to assume just a cold since symptoms resolved and no known exposure or should we test again?

This was on the main page COVID-19 Vaccine Update: CDC now recommends the new, updated COVID-19 boosters for everyone ages 12+ who completed their primary series or received a booster dose at least 2 months ago. As inventory of the updated booster arrives to our stores, additional appointments will be added daily. Schedule now for appointments beginning next week.

I'm so excited. I think I'm going to schedule it for over some days off of work I have planned in a couple weeks. That way I don't have to call in for side effects. I did for my second and third. But TBH I could have powered through if I was medicated. They changed our time and attendance policy though and each call in counts as 2 strikes. 6 strikes aka 3 call ins is termination and each strike falls off after six months. So I'm not calling in unless I absolutely have to. 🙃

I agree, I’d test again - what you describe more or less matches my kids’ experience with Covid. But by the time they were symptomatic, they were positive, so I’d feel good after another negative.

So I'm not calling in unless I absolutely have to. 🙃 Well that strike policy is awful I think some people like it because you can earn them taken off for things like your manager asks you to stay late, or come in on a day off. But I'm meh on it. Especially since a full call in counts as 2 strikes. However I'm certain that most managers are frequently excusing absences because they don't want to lose people.

Consecutive call ins count as the same one though so if you've got the flu and you call in for that four shifts in a row or something it's all the same occurrence.
