piratecat, could you drive? I know the AmTrak auto train picks up in the DC area and goes to Orlando; I don't know if it goes any further north. FWIW, my oldest and her marching band will be at Disney in February. That's about as nice as Disney gets as far as weather.

My kid would love the auto train but it looks like it only goes as far as DC. Some day! |

Canada just approved Moderna for under 5s, but my province is saying they will start booking during the first week of August for a heretofore unstated "later date." What the actual fuck, Nova Scotia? If PEI or NB has them sooner, it is road trip time. Shoot, I hadn't considered vaccine availability for the little kids for our trip to Nova Scotia. Is Pfizer available now? No, Pfizer has not been approved for that age group. Moderna is the first approval. |

I think we will be outdoors for the most part but wanted to do a museum or two. The majority don't. We still do and are not alone. I go to the library every week, so I don't think indoor activities are something you should necessarily avoid. But the kids being vaccinated wouldn't move the needle for me because I don't think you will get great uptake anyway and it doesn't really stop the spread that much. But it is a factor to weigh. Adult vaccination rates are very good. But 5-12 had just under 50% completing the series, I believe. |

Holy shit, drastic changes to our daycare's COVID policy. No quarantines for close contacts with negative rapid tests every other day. 5 day isolation for fully vaccinated kids instead of 10. So many mixed feelings!

A technician at work just let us know his wife called him here at work to let him know that their daughter just tested positive. She's vaccinated and still feeling pretty awful. She's been symptomatic for a couple of days and the doctor told them to take a test this morning. He's going to test over the weekend and let us know if he's symptomatic. I'm preparing myself for us to get it in the next few weeks. Open house for DD is the 27th and the first day is the 29th. Blah.

Speaking of, I decided to skip going to the Zilker musical this year. I'm so bummed since it's the first year back since 2019 but cases are so fucking high right now. It's outside but 100+ degrees every day and I don't want to sit out there for four hours. And wearing a kn95 mask that long outside sounds like fresh hell.
It's Newsies which isn't the worst one to miss, I guess.

I am having a hard time being sympathetic to one of my high school friends. She went to a ventriloquist convention last week, and now is shocked she got covid at the convention. I am absolutely not saying to not go out and do things, but a convention, where they are exclusively inside, without masks, hugging each other, is not a place I would be right now. I know she loves it and has lots of friends in the ventriloquism circle, but that seems so high risk right now.
Of course I an crossing my fingers that it is mild for her, but the begging for prayers on facebook is... I don't even know... like, put on wide-eyed naïveté.
