Did you all know that was Sam's father talking to Jamie? I didn't catch that part. I knew, but I have a good memory for names and faces so it helps with this show. They relied heavily on people remembering that the reason why Sam joined the Night's Watch was because his father was Lord Tarly and didn't want him as the heir. It's been a long time since Sam spoke about or was with his family, so they probably should have found some way to work in a reminder of who he is. I'm still not clear on why we should care about him or his allegiances. Maybe Cersei will have him killed so that his other son takes over Hornhill and can pledge allegiance. Dickon seems... pliable.

Leaf 🌱 The copy I watched was so dark too, I kept squinting to try to see what was happening. I feel like this episode was really moving the plot forward unlike Ep 1. I like that Arya decided to go to Winterfell and + whatever to Sansa being annoying. The sea battle was unexpected and Euron seems to be doing his best Russel Brand in Get Him to the Greek impression.

So the show guys talking afterwards said it was Nymeria and Arya said what she did because she realized that Nymeria coming with her wouldn't have been true to who she had become as a wild direwolf. I...was like "oh, it's a different direwolf." Lol. This is why I wasn't an English major. I don't read into things well. And see here I had this big thought about how Arya gave up part of her Stark heritage to become a sort-of Faceless man (I mean she's using the faces), so no direwolf for you? The official explanation makes way more sense lol.

In the Comic Con trailer, I thought it was interesting that Sansa was seen walking away from a weirwood tree. Maybe she was praying to the Old Gods? Taking an oath?
I have hope that she's going to smarten up and really embrace her Stark heritage after a lifetime of behaving more Tully than Stark.

They did show the scene of Sam at dinner with his family (where his dad was being an ass) in the "previously on" part before the episode started. It still took me until he said Tarly before it clicked though.

goldenlove, ahhh that makes sense. I don't see the "previously on" recaps so I have to rely on memory.

I kinda felt that Nymeria turned her back on Arya, just like Arya turned her back on her. Sure, Arya did it to save her life...but Nymeria didn't know that. Also, is hasn't turned out too well for any of the Stark kids wolves. Btw...where's Ghost? I've read that they filmed at least one scene for Battle of the Bastards that included Ghost, but then cut it, so I believe we can assume Ghost is hanging out in Winterfell somewhere.

I think we all know my favorite moment. I'm pretty sure Nymeria will be back. They needed to remind the audience she existed before she swoops (pounces?) in to save the day in the near future. Also probably a commentary on how much Arya has changed, and not all for the better. She's gotten wilder and harder. They have lived parallel lives. "It's not you" indeed. I'm very much hoping she returns. I completely understand why she didn't just follow Arya, but I'm also really hoping for her to show up and help out down the road.

I am so ready for that pack of wolves to bust into battle to save Jon or something. Maybe Arya will finally warg like she does in the books? (Has she done this in the show? I can't recall if it happened earlier.)

Yes, Ghost is still around. They said the wolves are expensive to put in and that's why their roles are not the same as in the books.

They said the whole Nymeria thing was to show that like Arrya, Nymeria has been doing her thing and has evolved into her role so not likely to be tamed.

Not to derail this: but aren't some guys just naturally good?
I don't care for oral, so I ask you (general you)

I feel he knew he had to bring it cause he has no peen. Also with all the sexual tension she may have been hot already so any little thing...

Pretty sure Ellaria (and maybe also Yara) are going to be the "gift" Euron brings to Cercei. They're worth more alive than dead.
Theon can fuck off. Ramsay really did a number on him. He'd better just go ahead and swim right into a shark or something because no one is going to be his friend anymore.
Not the character, but damn, the actor that portrays Grey Worm had me feeling all kinds of feelings on the close up of his face when she says she wants to see him. To see him go from fear to sadness to shame to love and adoration in such a short time was beautiful and heart-wrenching and very well-acted. Now I'm terrified he's going to go get himself killed in Casterly Rock.
Maybe H and I are the only people who appreciated the cutaway from Sam's handiwork on Jorah to the pot pie in the Inn. I thought it was fucking brilliant.
I love Olenna Tyrell. I hope to be her in my old age. But with more living family members.

Yara's face when Theon jumped just broke my heart. She has had his back through so much and has, in her own weird way, been a good sister to him. And he just... left her to die.

Even though Theon jumped out of fear/Reek ptsd (Alfie Allen was great in this scene), it actually might have been the smartest move. They were clearly going to lose is battle - if Theon made a move to fight, he and Yara would've been done. But, they're both still alive and there's the possibility that he can try to save her later. With how much time we've spent with Theon, I sorta get the feeling he'll be around until the end.

I don't know what Sansa is doing right now, but I don't think I would call it smartening up. She really needs to get that mockingbird off her back. I saw that look between them after Jon said she was in charge, she hasn't quit Littlefinger yet.

The Varys sized elephant in the room was addressed really well. I like his and Dany's dynamic ATM.
Remember when The Red Woman was like 1,000 years old and we were all, "What's that about!?" but then it was never mentioned again? So weird. At least she's facilitating getting our two favorite/least favorite crazy kids together.
Yara, Ellaria, and Olenna are out for revenge, not what is best to rule the people of the 7 kingdoms. This makes them admirable allies during battle, but I wouldn't listen to them too much when it comes to strategy. Dany quoting Tyrion during their meeting pleased me.
I didn't realize that guy Jaime was talking to was Sam's dad until their conversation was almost over. I thought Qyburn would come up with something way creepier than a crossbow to beat the dragons.
I don't mind the faster than light Ravens because at least it's moving the plot along. I can't wait for Jon and Dany to meet. I wonder if he will be able to maintain his title of King of the North? Hopefully, she takes the WW threat seriously, but I have a feeling her mind is pretty set on taking King's Landing before focusing her energy on the North.
If I never seen Littlefinger skulk again it will be too soon. If I were Jon, I would have taken him with me to move him as far away from Sansa during her moment of power as possible.
Arya seemed weirder than usual while dining with Hotpie. It's also weird that she hadn't heard about Jon yet. Unless these timelines aren't completely parallel and she's a rather behind the rest of the action. It's disappointing that Nymeria didn't go with her, but not unexpected. She turned her back on her life as a Stark, and her Direwolf, the very symbol of her family, has turned it's back on her. I would like to think they will be reunited again, though.
I'm pretty sure the battle took place before they initially reached Dorne. I'm very impressed with Euron's tracking ability. Maybe his new look afforded him a magic compass a la Jack Sparrow? Then bailing was not surprising, I'm just not sure where he goes from here.
That greyscale business was gross. Buzzfeed theory of the week: Sam, taking inspiration from Professor Slughorn's own book on the time after Robert's death, writes his own, more poetic, version of the events titled A Song of Ice and Fire. We are watching/reading his story.

I also think the battle took place before they got to Dorne and something that was on Popsugar said the same thing, so that army is potentially still there but stuck? And they definitely still have the Tyrells.
I just don't have it in me to care about Euron or to want to watch him... he got introduced too late and with how few episodes are left I'm ready for things to be getting tied up not new players mixing it up.
