Heat index is between 100-104 today. We are not going outside needless to say. We might go to the library and play with the train table for a change of scenery this morning but otherwise no big plans for our Saturday.
Also, I really, really want pizza and it's only 9:00 here.

The weekend of unpacking, sorting, and organizing continues. We've made good headway, but one problem is that DS is sooooo excited to explore, that he hasn't napped the past 2 days 😩. He's been sleeping super hard and well at night to make up for it, but he has been so cranky and naughty come early evening! I am hoping going back to school and his normal week-day routine on Monday will help things go back to normal.
Other than that - no real plans this weekend. Just settling in and getting DH ready for his big trip to the USA next week. I am SO EXCITED for him to bring home all the goodies I've ordered online and shipped to my ILs the past 4 months 😁😁

We are going to the farmers market today. Tomorrow is dinner at the in-laws, and i need to convince DH that it is time for us to tour the birthing center at the hospital sooner rather than later.

Miscellaneous things around the house to prepare for company coming tomorrow for DS's 2nd birthday! Just my parents/sister, DH's parents/brother, and DH's grandmother so it will be very low-key but nice.

Big storms here last night means bad sleep for everyone.
Taking the kids to the pool then telling them about the baby tonight over special movie and ice cream night. I'm looking forward to DS1 knowing why I'm so tired all the time. There's a reason mom is phoning it in!

DD was up just after 6 so H took her, then an hour later got at work call and put it on speaker phone. I got up had a bowl of cereal and went back to sleep until now. I'm still so exhausted but feel a bit better. I hope I'm not getting sick and it's just a combo of pregnancy/old/long week.
We are getting family pictures done this evening. I'm super excited, I dislike my current appearance but I don't care since I have barely any nice pictures since H never takes any.

I went to the chiropractor yesterday which is usually a great time for me, but he cracked the shit out of my neck and said "omg you're going to sleep like a baby" Fast forward to this morning:

Hello! I must be in a nesting phase, because lately I've been obsessed with the idea of buying clothes for this baby! I'm cheap/thrifty to a fault, so I didn't feel the need to shop until I actually pulled out DD1's 0-3m clothes and realized we have like...4 l/s onesies and 3 sleepers, and the rest is summer clothes. Whoops.
I just placed an order from Carter's, so I'm feeling a little more calm. It's not even like we don't have clothes for the first month of this kid's life (14 nb sleepers, 3 gowns, and plenty of s/s onesies all from DD1), but this has been nagging at me for at least 48h.

I made DH take the tour earlier this month, hahaha. I just felt better seeing the place. Did I ever tell you guys that story? The hospital where I had DD1 had no nursery, and it was...not good. During this tour, DH asked if there was a time limit on how long we could leave the baby in the nursery. The lady misunderstood the question at first, and once he clarified she went "oh....you WANT to leave your baby." YES, YES WE DO. I would prefer to sleep this time around, TYVM.

cythe, hope you're feeling better! seventythree, YES to nurseries!!! Mama needs some sleep. My parents are visiting this weekend, so we've been busy. I had a fun afternoon with my mom yesterday. We took DS to the zoo this morning. Just had the best tacos ever. Also, Burger King has lucky charms milkshakes. I'm exhausted, about to take a shower and then I'll probably fall asleep with DS when I put him to bed.

My hospital is "baby friendly" aka the dumbest thing on earth. There is no nursery, you keep baby 24/7. They don't allow pacifiers and lactation consultants visit/annoy you every hour or so. I hated it, but unfortunately it's the only hospital my OB delivers. Stupid trendy hospitals

rachydc dang... our hospital also calls their L&D "baby-friendly" but they have a nursery and have pacifiers. They did have lactation consultants check in with me but honestly I had a hard time breastfeeding initially due to tongue tie and needed the LC's help.

Photo shoot went ok. DD was semi cooperative, I think we are going to use this photographer for our newborn pics.
Brownies are cooking, everyone is in bed and I have a book in hand. The only thing that would make this better is a big glass of wine.

I have to admit that 100% of the reason why I switched OBs was the baby friendly nonsense. I was all for rooming in and bonding and blah blah blah, until my baby would not. stop. screaming. for hours at a time. Plus BFing was a pain (tongue tie, flat nipples) and I had bad PPA/D. I'm honestly not sure who cried more, me or DD.
The new hospital also does rooming in by default, and I'm ok with that, but just the OPTION for a nursery is soooooooo important.
ETA: pacifiers were also looked down upon. The night nurse gave us one but she acted like it was contraband.

Our hospital is "baby-friendly" too. But I received a paci (from our pediatrician when he was circ'd, but the nurses didn't look twice at it) and I think there was a nursery, but I didn't use it. However, we had a hard time getting the LC to visit and I really needed them. We ended up hiring one to come to our house the day after we were discharged.
I think they were just switching over to baby-friendly, so I'm interested in seeing how it is two years later.

DS has another freaking cough. And his breathing sounds bad like last time, but I really don't want to pay $400 again to be told it's a virus. Ugh. He was so fussy today and sometimes just inconsolable.
My cousin's little one is having a birthday party tomorrow at the splash pad, but I don't know if we'll go now. 1. The cough 2. It's going to be 10000 degrees, even at 10:30am
Other than that, were getting very close to being done with DS's room. Can someone help me convince DH that he does not need his old college textbooks? When will he ever be looking up abstract algebra?

This was me on Friday!!! I went through the baby stuff and was like "oh, 5 l/s onsies... huh". I had 30% off at Kohls and used that today to get some stuff. I know the baby isn't going to be here and we did sleepers forever like you but it was bugging me too!

H has a box of old textbooks in the basement with things like "Calculus 4". Even teaching some the AP math classes at the high school he will never need these books again. Ugh.

Today was a good day! I went shopping, by myself, at Once Upon a Child this morning. Scored 20 onsies for $10, and 10 long sleeve shirts for $1 each. 30 new(ish) baby girl clothes for only $20, I love a good deal. Afterwords I had lunch with my BFF, then got a massage (we work together). Later, H, DS and I went on a long walk to a gas station for ice cream. It was a hot/humid walk, so we went for a swim once we got home. DS passed out on me, shortly after eating dinner, while watching Cars (we made it 40 min in to the movie).

cougarette Sorry your DS is coughing again. : ( Fx it's nothing bad and you don't need to go in. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day with less fussiness. Hugs.

cougarette I'm sorry your baby has a cough - again. I wouldn't want to pay that either, especially for something they can't do anything about.

cougarette Sorry about DS' cough! No fun! Also, your DS needs to throw out those text books - or sell them to Amazon or something. I made DH sell his risk management books from college a few years ago. @gamegirl - That sounds like a perfect day! Add me to the "baby friendly" hospital marketing hate. It's just an excuse for them to cut costs and provide less care to the mom....while spinning it in a positive light. I am certain of that. I am so glad there is none of that B.S. over here. Even though I didn't use the nursery for DS (he was a super super sleepy newborn...probably due to his being exhausted from a 27 hour labor), I was really glad there was the option.

Yeah, "baby friendly" is a total crock. I had a friend deliver in one and she made sure to bring her own pacifiers and formula because she knew they'd be awful about it. She didn't have amother option for delivery though.

Our hospital is baby friendly as well but they have pacifiers and will take the baby to the nursery for a couple hours if the parents request it.
My best friend had her baby last night, so I will be heading there this morning to meet him!! Newborn snuggles, and a huge dose of reality that we only have 3 months left!

I think my hospital is... not baby friendly (in that sense lol). I honestly don't remember, it was so long ago that I took my tour.
My hospital does a fancy meal for the Parents after baby is born, where they take baby into the nursery for an hour or so (I'm sure you can decline that part) and then they bring you your meal so you can enjoy what I call, the last supper lol.
They do have some baby friendly practices, but as a whole they still allow and focus on the Parents which I think is nice too. Why is my phone capitalizing parents? Anyway, I like my hospital.

We are meeting my parents today at the halfway point between our placrs and they are taking DD for a few nights. We will be child free for awhile!!! I mean, I'll miss her dearly of course, but it will be nice to sleep in, go to some movies/out to dinner, stay up late, etc. H and I could really use this time together too as it's been hard to connect recently since I've been so sick this pregnancy, he's worked extra, we have a busy 2 year old and all that normal adult stuff.

I get it. Bonding is important and all that, but as a new mother your body has just been through hell to bring that baby in to the world. It seems cruel to me to then just hand off the baby (especially to FTM who may have no baby experience) and basically say good luck. Everyone I've talked to who had a "baby friendly" hospital delivery has had nothing but bad things to say about it. The delivery may have been fune, but the after care was unpleasant.
The kid will be mine forever, can I get one last night of sleep before bringing them home please? Lol
