I'm trying to find a therapist for M and my search is going nowhere. She was seeing the school counselor and that was going really well. But then the school counselor dropped her to make room for kids "who needed her help more." I get it. M does well in school, so there is little motivation for the school to help her when there are kids who are having more school-based difficulties. We can afford to pay for her to see someone, so I started reaching out. I've reached out to 15 therapists in the area who say that they work with children. They either are not accepting new clients or stopped seeing children during the pandemic. This is massively frustrating. Sorry, I just need to dump this frustration somewhere.

Sorry mapleme
Just know you are doing amazing by just taking this step.
Are you going through your insurance directory? And they are incorrectly labeled?

I’m not even caring about insurance coverage at this point (also one wonderful part of Vermont is that we only have two insurance providers so basically everyone takes both). It seems that when therapists moved to teleheath for the pandemic many dropped their services for children and filled their schedule with adults. Because their schedule is full they didn’t bother to update their website or listings. At this point I would just like to get on a couple waitlists.

I just quit my job. This will 100% have a positive impact on my mental health.

Good news! I got a call back from one of the therapists that didn't have a voicemail recording (just a technical error), so I had mentally written her off. But she is the one that *every single therapist* recommended if they couldn't help. She doesn't have time available now, but expects to by the end of the school year.

I'm resurrecting this thread to complain. It's been about two weeks since I cut my antidepressant dose in half and I am experiencing some truly awful side effects: first I had flu-like symptoms, then severe GI issues for two or three days, and now persistent runny nose, fatigue, insomnia, and round-the-clock nausea. I feel like garbage and I'm terrified to either stop it completely or try to cut the pills into quarters to do it more gradually. But I'm leaning towards just stopping completely because I don't want to drag this out any longer than it needs to be. And then I am Never. Taking. Them. Again. 😵💫
If my doctor had warned me how shitty it would feel to stop this drug I would never have started it.

Oh no mintyblueair that sounds awful! I’m worried for you if you stop it cold turkey. Maybe it’s worth it to try tapering down by 1/4 instead? I’m sorry you’re dealing with this.

Yes, that's probably the smarter way to do it. I just want to get it over with 😭. But I think I'll continue at my current dose until I start to feel better, then reduce to 1/4 dose. It's especially stressing me out because I'll be a student again in September and if I feel like crap, like I do now, there is no way my brain will be functioning well enough to be productive. But September is 5 weeks away so... 🤞

Listen, I know that the first couple weeks of school are exhausting for kids. And I know that my 10yr old is basically a pre-teen experiencing hormone fluctuations, and that the 8yo is also going through a big emotional development stage...but HOLY EFF. The constant whining, bickering, and crappy attitudes are really a lot. And I've been solo parenting since School Day 1 b/c S had a work trip.

Ugh, sorry rugger. E has an attitude problem at the beginning of every school year for almost three months. It’s rough. I feel you.

rugger, I have no advice unfortunately but the peen was in solidarity of the sibling rivalry and BIG emotions of my almost 8 year old. ETA: MH is an Athletic Director now so he is swamped right now with 15 hour days at the school. It is too much!

My 8 year old is going through some kind of emotional phase and I'm going to lose my mind. So much rage and flat out not listening to anything I say, like way more than normal. It's been like a week of this so hoping going back to school soon will help?

R (will be 8 in January), my sweet girl who always was so happy and easy going, is going through the same thing. She stomps all over the place, with lots of huffing and puffing. Even the slightest comment on anything and she yells "Fine! I'll just go to my room!". I do not know how I will survive this. Let alone with E and A coming up right behind her.

I'm hoping he's just in need of some structure to his days and that the mental challenge of school will help. Or, will it make it worse?? This kid has had a dream summer full of fun, maybe we did too much and have ruined him. Sorry you're going through it too.

It's no fun
