We are finishing the Ralph S. Mouse trilogy tomorrow and start Charlotte's Web next week. Re-reading childhood books is a perk I never expected when we started this homeschool journey!
As for me, I'm trying to get through Wishing on Dandelions by Mary DeMuth. It is the second in a heavy series about abuse and racism in 1970's Texas so it's not an easy read. The characters seem so real, and it's overall very thought provoking.
I bought what I hope will be more light hearted last night. It's a "series" called La Jolla Cove: The Sea Breeze Cottage that is more like one book broken up into novellas. La Jolla is one of my happy places so I had to buy it when my kindle recommended it. It's kinda choppy so far so I hope it gets better.

I’m glad you started this!
I am hoping to start a new cozy mystery today. It’s one of those ultra-cheesy lighthearted murder mysteries with a little fantasy mixed in. The title is Crimes and Covers.
The other books on my list aren’t fiction, they’re titled: The Alchemist Big Magic The Mountain Is You
These were recommended to me.. I think they’re all geared toward strategies to sort of be empowered in your own life. We’ll see!

I just finished Daisy Jones and The Six-loved it! I didn’t realize until I was done which band inspired it.
I have library books on hold to pick up today and I’m going to start The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner. Based in 18th century London, a woman concocts poisons for women to use against oppressive and abusive men. I’m really looking forward to it.

I'm currently reading Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr and Milk Fed by Melissa Broder. I'm enjoying Cloud Cuckoo Land but I'm really loving Milk Fed! It's about a young woman with an eating disorder, a toxic mother, and a breastfeeding fetish.

I finished the 7 husbands of evelyn hugo. It was good but not what i expected...I dunno.
Reading...Where'd you go Bernadette right now - fiction, I dont like the format (lots of excerpts from letters and emails that tells the story)...but I can't just give up on it.
I'd like some mysteries for a change. What's good?
I also read most of Front Desk (middle grade), but then M took it back to school. About an immigrant family managing a hotel.

stringy what were you thoughts on the portion of Front Desk you read? Looking for thought-provoking books for my oldest. I know M’s a bit older, but he’s able to read chapter books.

It definitely covered immigration, racism, classism in an engaged way. Like the 10 yo main character was left watching the front desk most of the time and one time someone drunk came in and was acting violent, and they talked about bulletproof glass, and the owner was very mean and unfair. But it also showed her perspective as an immigrant and wanting to fit in and knowing better english than her parents...so, it was 7-10 yo appropriate. Not a beginner chapter book...in language or content. But a good bridge to those conversations. and I don't know how it ended but there's another in the short series.

DGM I have Charlotte’s Web set aside to read with both kids in the spring and I’m so excited! I remember not liking it at L's age, but I'm already enjoying it now after the first chapter. She's a huge animal lover so that's helping hold her interest plus the lure of biscuit spiders and pretzel rod/marshmallow pigs and sheep when we finish the book LOL.

The Lacemaker by Laura Frantz. It's historical fiction set in Virginia 1775 about a young lady in a family where her dad is fiercely loyal to England, but her mom is a "Rebel" and believes in the fight for America's freedom. The beginning was slow, but it's getting interesting now as Patrick Henry and George Washington are on the scene. ETA: clarity

I finished The Lost Apothecary today. I had such high hopes, such a cool concept! The first 3/4 of the book were so painfully predictable. The characters were so dull and flat that it was a struggle to finish. Do not recommend.

I just finished The Push - which was interesting/family drama - a little intense about motherhood. Also finished Nowhere Girl - which was similar to Glass Castle, a memoir about someone who grew up in a pretty messed up family.
Guys - I read FOUR books this month. Thats really a lot for me among everything else.
Anyone use use goodreads? I just scrolled a bunch last night and then ordered more from the library - would be good to use it as intended and have "friends" lol.

I haven't been reading as much lately because my free time has been on homeschool blogs 🤪.
Anyway, literally asking for a friend. What books on puberty/body awareness would you all recommend for a 6 year old girl who has a 1 year old brother? We use a set of religious books for the talks, and L's little buddy's mom wants something not religious.

I finished a split time mystery called Lady in Residence about the supposedly haunted Menger Hotel in Texas. It kinda dragged then wrapped up the ending really fast. Meh.
Our read aloud for homeschool is Who Stole the Wizard of Oz? by Avi. I really like it, and my kids are hanging in there. ETA: I was already in high school when the Avi book was released so had never read it. Any of you young'ins read it back then?

I’m sorry I’m so late. I wasn’t reading so I didn’t enter this thread. I love that book. I’ve just finished a not-my-style chick lit type book, but I liked it. One to Watch by Kate Staymon-London. “A plus-size bachelorette brings a fresh look to a reality show in this razor-sharp, “divinely witty” (Entertainment Weekly) debut.” I don’t watch reality TV or read books about romance, but the plus-size perspective (and other similarly thought provoking angles) made it fun. And light. Next coming from the library is The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. I blindly requested it when a friend said I’d like it.
