Well this is a bummer. We need voices like his as in a mostly reasonable republican I wonder if he's just as fed up with his colleagues as everyone else is. I can't blame him if he is, but agreed that it's disappointing to see more "traditional/moderate" Republicans leaving office. Is his area of IL a possible place to flip blue? Not really IMO. The Illinois Democrats just voted in the new congressional map into law (and never let it be said that only one party knows how to gerrymander), and Kinzinger would be in a traditionally more red district than his old one with a more 'traditional' and four term incumbent, as I understand it. There was a little bit of talk about him possibly running for Governor, and he's probably the only Republican who might be able to draw a fair number of moderate Republican and independent votes from Pritzker, in my eyes. I honestly think Pritzker's best chances are if the 'wacko' Republicans that are in the ascent get one of theirs through their primary. If anything, I worry about Illinois starting to slip redder this midterm. www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/illinois-dems-carve-up-liberal-giant-slayer-s-district-in-new-congressional-map/ar-AAQ5B1E?ocid=BingNewsSearch

Some of them paint their offices. I can't say I've ever seen a pink one before, OTOH. It just looks so Twee. I hate it. Her whole vibe is very attention-seeking to me. If it were anyone else, I’d maybe think that the pink office is a style choice and be ok with it. Because it’s her, it feels like an effort to make a point to be different and push the envelope just so she can rail against the haters.

It’s really just despicable how little people care about postpartum moms. I feel so lucky for the fact that my boss approved 4.5 months of maternity leave on top of the 5 weeks of short term disability I took for bedrest before giving birth (I mean, that part wasn’t her choice of course). Only 3 weeks of it was paid parental leave per our policy and then I took PTO and STD for the rest but it still needed approval for longer than 12 weeks. I hate thinking that so many have to go back so soon. Truth. I was lucky I was in grad school with DD1 and she was born after the end of the spring semester so I was able to take the summer off. I hate that we have to use the word lucky. Also I do wonder if my employer would have been as amenable to my request if it had been “just” a singleton vs twin newborns since it was also a matter of securing “affordable” child care for them.

I'm not sure with the new map split. Of course the new proposed district (which is my current but no longer would be) is ridiculous. Gerrymandering is bad for both sides. (It's the skinny yellow one surrounded by purple btw)

greykitty We are in a similar predicament for our 2022 governor race. I’m worried that if a more moderate or “normal” Republican candidate wins the primary, our Dem gov will have a much tighter race than if one of the crazy options gets it.

And a shoe drops in Illinois. Marie Newman is upset she'd have to be in a primary with Chuy Garcia, and so she's going to take on Sean Casten, who successfully flipped the district Blue against a many term incumbent. Now I'm really concerned about the District going red if the Dems devour themselves.

Normally I'm all for two 'decent' candidates in any race. I think it's better for the country as a whole. At least right now for me, if it were Kinzinger v Pritzker, I think I could live with either winning. Life is not perfect. And Pritzker isn't popular in many areas of the state (not just downstate) for his approach to COVID.

Wtf to that yellow district. That is so stupid. It's basically all the blue areas in one skinny stretch. So they can flip the district. Thing is, Davis (current rep) is really unpopular and we almost flipped our district last time (seriously he won by half a point) but now my new district will be solid red.

I had a really random memory last night after our discussion about Youngkin and his ridiculous vests. I saw Ed Gillespie at Wegmans a little while after he got thumped in the 2017 race and he was wearing a fleece vest 🤣 Maybe it's the required uniform if you run as a Republican in VA. 1000%. Just look at every graduating class of Hampden Sydney. Several of them worked at my old firm and let's just say they loved their fleece vests, salmon red khakis and seasonally appropriate seersucker.

I got 11 weeks paid - the 3 weeks for parental leave, 8 weeks for c/s and then the remainder of my time off was PTO that I had saved up and then 3 weeks unpaid. The part my boss had to approve was everything after the allowed FMLA 12 weeks.

It doesn't matter at this point. I'll just chalk it up again to the terrible management I had.

I think it will be hard for him to keep given the Barrington crazies I was already pretty worried about Casten. Not so much extremists, truthfully, but crime/economy/taxes and independents and moderates looking more than a little askance at both parties. Again, IMO, his best bet would be to have a far right wing person like Ives run against him. I don't think Newman could carry the District at all unless it was the most extremist of Trump Republicans running against her. She didn't do all that well against Lipinski (D) IMO, and that was in a far more reliably blue district. I guess we'll see where it pans out. She may not be making friends in the party by this primary push in Casten's district.

I really wish I could just completely quit FB. But I check it probably once or twice a week solely for two groups related to my kid's school and a twin mom group. Plus the marketplace is kind of great sometimes. I don't ever scroll my newsfeed intentionally. Ugh. I hate it. This is where I'm at. It's the only place I've found an active parosmia group on the apps I have already downloaded and know how to use. I haven't checked Reddit because I don't really Reddit, but I might. I just really hate Facebook.

I mainly use FB for Girl Scout stuff these days. Leader groups, troop groups, and posting events on the city page. I' still in a shit ton of cloth diaper groups too that I really should leave, but I'm lazy.

DD has a day off school and Roblox's server is down and she is pissed. She made me go online to confirm it's a full outage because she didn't believe me. After I found a blog post about it, she made me go to Twitter too because "you can't believe everything you read on the internet." Lol. DS had an early release and faced the same frustration. He was so mad when he realized what was going on. All of his afternoon plans were thwarted.
