I live in one of these areas and it’s definitely a thing here. Our local school board candidates can’t tell you what CRT is but they’re against it, GDI. Exactly! And the letters to the editor around here are just nuts. We must live in the same area. I live a blue-ish city in a red county. Luckily, our city school board is sane and progressive. The surrounding county though…woof.

Oh I forgot one big one: people are furious about January 6. Earlier in the voter outreach cycle I had several self proclaimed lifelong Republicans tell me they'll never vote for a Republican again

The surrounding county though…woof. We’re probably neighbors. Our city school isn’t having any trouble—or if it is it’s from parents like me pushing more progressive teaching—it’s the county schools where this is coming up. All of the area is like that though. Drops of blue in a sea of red. Thank god for northern va.

Earlier in the voter outreach cycle I had several self proclaimed lifelong Republicans tell me they'll never vote for a Republican again I hope they meant it. And that's not to say they didn't. I have a family member who said the same after 2016 (voted against the former guy but down ticket voted R) and this person says in 2020 it was the first time straight voting Dem in their life. I hope they stay that way, but never is a very long time. I can see people doing so now, but drifting back or to the libertarian camp as time goes on.

Not sure how national this news is, but I hope he loses everything - I know he won’t, but it would be a good start for watching them go down.

Well these people aren't in diners in Ohio so how would reporters ever find them? I kid. But ugh

My oldest saw a Youngkin ad on YouTube that he found objectionable and started, according to him, spontaneously singing a response to the tune of In the Hall of the Mountain King : What the what the what the heck What the heck What the heck What the what the what the heck Oh what the heckin heeeeeeck

We had to stop at the Halloween store and H picked up a Trump face cut out and held it over his face. 3 year old DD2 said "woah scary".
Definitely a genius. 😉

www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2021/10/28/misinformation-spanish-facebook-social-media/'The platforms don’t handle false information in English and in other languages in the same way. Social media companies haven’t just underestimated what they were up against. They have decided to let their algorithms promote hate and misinformation because division leads to more clicks, traffic and profit. At the bare minimum, the platforms need to make the investment to take the same actions on Spanish content as they do for English. They have consciously chosen not to direct resources to address these problems. Just look at how effectively YouTube identifies and quickly removes content for copyright infringements to protect profits.' 😑🤬

My response was blinking eye guy and “cool story bro” 🙄
Some people are nutso. Goodness gracious. Do they also hate Santa bc he is the secular part of Christmas? Cuz they should if they’re so Christian cuz santa takes away from the birth of Jesus celebration. 🙄

I’ll be sure to tell my 5 yo to get a fucking job if he wants candy. In a country where child labor is illegal. 😑 I know that’s beside the point but the concept makes me laugh/sigh.

I mean, FWIW, my employer requires medical provider documentation for medical leave requests - even leaves under STD, let alone LTD; and, yeah, there definitely were cases of people claiming medical disability fraudulently. They weren't so happy post-investigation.
And we have other forms of leave, but all of them carried the caveat that fraud would be dealt with severely if false documentation were provided, and fair notice that investigations could be done at any time. There's always someone who tries to game any benefit.
Seems to me that safety measures should already be in place if that's what the Senator was confused about, even for employers new to a paid leave program.

FWIW, work requirements are always a means to prevent people from escaping poverty or maintaining decent middle class lives. Period. It's intended to shame and dissuade people from even trying. Not surprised you'd defend it. The amount lost by fraud to these kinds of programs is inconsequential. Fraud is seen everywhere and it is a tiny fucking fraction of risk compared to the incredible benefit given t far more people.

He really hates those of us with kids this time of year 😂 The church I went to as a kid was very anti- Halloween, but Santa was allowed because he's a derivative of a Christian Saint. So they focused on St. Nick and not Santa. My family didn't quite fit in because we were allowed to do Halloween (my mother likes handing out candy and said she would have been a hypocrite to not let us trick or treat). There are some houses here that still give out religious tracts with a small candy bar to warn you of the evils of Halloween. SUPER EFFECTIVE, BRO

Fraud is seen everywhere and it is a tiny fucking fraction of risk compared to the incredible benefit given t far more people. The money that states use to "prevent fraud" (AKA keep people who need money from getting it) costs them 100X more than actual fraud in these cases. It's not about the money.
