Goodness. I picked up a Jane Greene novel thinking it would be a fluffy light break from the murdery thriller I'm also reading and this woman spends 350 pages making me love this couple only to KILL ONE OF THEM. Dammit! Which one?

My H is plodding through People We Meet on Vacation and I’m impatiently waiting for my turn. It must get good in the last half because he is reading way more at bedtime. It’s definitely a good bedtime book. Especially when you hit the sexy parts. Everyone who enjoyed PWMOV should try The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren. Similar vibe. Very fun read. I'm on the library waitlist for Unhoneymooners. They tell me it will be at least 6 months. Sadz.

I love most of the Christina Lauren books I’ve read. There was a Christmas clunker recently but otherwise great. A different author but similar vibe was Evvie Drake Starts Over. Oh, and Apples Never Fall is classic Liane Moriarty. I’m liking it a lot. I can't wait for Apples Never Fall. I'm like 150th on the library hold list though lol.

Somehow I lost the book I was reading in my own house! I always set it next to my bed but it wasn't there. I searched for 2 days before starting a new one and then ended up finding the first one near the toy bins. So, thanks kid.
Tl,dr: I'm currently reading two books. 🤣

I've just finished The Cutting Place by Jane Casey. It was good! Graphic at times but I genuinely liked the central characters
Major TW for domestic violence.
'Rumours… Everyone’s heard the rumours about elite gentlemen’s clubs, where the champagne flows freely, the parties are outrageous…and what goes on behind closed doors is darker than you could possibly imagine. Scandals… Paige Hargreaves was a young journalist working on a story about a club for the most privileged men in London. She was on the brink of exposing a shocking scandal. Then she disappeared. Secrets… DS Maeve Kerrigan must immerse herself in the club’s world of wealth, luxury and ruthless behaviour to find out what happened. But Maeve is keeping secrets of her own. Will she uncover the truth? Or will time run out for Maeve first?'

My 10 year old recommended a book to me, so I read it. It was terrible (very tweenish), but I love that she finished a book and wanted my opinion. I hope she continues to do that!
Next up is The Unhoneymooners because of this thread and because it was available right away from my library.

I finished The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang last week. Overall, I liked it, though it was more sexually explicit than I really prefer (and I’m not a prude when it comes to books). The explicitness did make sense in the context of the plot, but the real strength of the novel was its characters. They were A++. I loved how Hoang really followed the thought patterns and emotional responses of two very neurologically different characters with nuance and care.

Bumping this a bit--did anyone read Project Hail Mary? I just got it and started it. It's typically not the type of book I read, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to get into it.

I just finished listening to the third book in the Willow Creek Ren Faire series, Well Matched. It wasn't quite as adorable as the first two, but I still liked it. www.jendeluca.com/well-met

Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann was fascinating and horrifying. I highly recommend it. Grann did a great job weaving together the history of the Osage Nation, the Oklahoma oil boom, prohibition, and the early FBI and their investigation of the Osage murders in the 1920s.
I’m about halfway through the new Lady Sherlock book and really enjoying it.

I've recently read Library at Mount Char, The Love Hypothesis ( Minerva, you really need to read this!), Well Matched, and How Lucky, amongst others. Highly recommend How Lucky. A man witness an abduction and it's the story told through his POV. It's a book that will really stick with you.

if you liked Notting Hill, try While we were Dating. It's like Notting Hill but more...fun? The characters are very likeable and the book is basically a confection. It was more graphic, sexually, than I usually read but it was more surprising than bothersome. It was a good book to devour on a Sunday when I wasn't feeling well

I finished The Unhoneymooners. I enjoyed it, even though enemies to lovers is not my favorite romantic trope.

I just finished the new Lady Sherlock. Chef’s kiss. Not quite as good as Cold Street, but still very very good.
Also finished Outlawed by Anna North. It was categorized as historical fiction on Libby but it’s more alternative history IMO. It takes place in the American west in the very late 1800s, but for some reason the centralized US government doesn’t exist anymore. Instead each city has its own government, but they work together. And somehow having babies is like the most important thing for everyone, always, except for our main character and some of the people she eventually interacts with. I finished it but I was confused and mad during a lot of it.
I’m 2/3 the way through Squeeze Me by Carl Hiaasen. It is very much a cheesy who dunnit, but also weaves in some good jabs at T Rump. If you like early Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series you’d probably like it.

I think I might be “but there’s only one bed!” Oooh that's a good one! A niche within the broader category of forced proximity. I love any kind of "let's pretend we're in a relationship for this insane reason that would never happen in real life" and then they fall in love.

I just finished The Wrong Family by Tarryn Fisher. It was harrowing but twisty in a way I enjoyed.
Juno was wrong about Winnie Crouch.
Before moving in with the Crouch family, Juno thought Winnie and her husband, Nigel, had the perfect marriage, the perfect son—the perfect life. Only now that she’s living in their beautiful house, she sees the cracks in the crumbling facade are too deep to ignore.
Still, she isn’t one to judge. After her grim diagnosis, the retired therapist simply wants a place to live out the rest of her days in peace. But that peace is shattered the day Juno overhears a chilling conversation between Winnie and Nigel…
She shouldn’t get involved.
She really shouldn’t.
But this could be her chance to make a few things right.
Because if you thought Juno didn’t have a secret of her own, then you were wrong about her, too.

This would be right up my alley if I weren't deeply committed to reading nothing but romance novels until the pandemic is over.

I am excited that the little shop of found things book 4 is coming out nov 23rd. It’s kind of a historical fiction time travel which is my absolute favorite.
I’ve just started the cutting season by Attica Locke. Has anyone read this? I am struggling a bit to get into it.
