I'm currently slowly making my way through Thirteen Orphans by Jane Lindskold. It's a modern fantasy based around the Chinese Zodiac.

I'm embarrassed about my current reading selections after reading all what you guys are reading. I like paranormal witchy stuff, so I've gone thru all of available Yasmine Galenorn, Amanda Lee/Lily Hart, and currently Annabel Chase. however they are quick mindless reads and I need that. I have a few heavier ones that I need to start but I have to be in a good headspace first. Gurl. I balance out my serious reads with stuff like “his captive lady”. You are good. Sometimes I don’t even bother with the serious stuff.

Hi! I also have a hard time catching up on the GD book thread. I love the recommendations though! I just finished Casey Wilson’s essay collection The Wreckage of my Presence. I have enjoyed her since watching Happy Wndings, so I enjoyed it. I don’t know if she’s everyone’s cup of tea. I have Lianne Moriarty’s latest (Apples Never Fall) on Libby. I hated Nine Perfect Strangers so I’m hoping this is better. I also picked up Four Winds by Kristin Hannah and The Newcomer by Mary Kay Andrews from my library. I liked The Four Winds and learned a lot about the dust bowl and Great Depression, but I’ll warn you there is not a happy ending to be had in that book. I still recommend it, but if you need an uplifting, light book, read anything by Fredrik Backman.

A nice balance for me 😆

I just started The Other Mrs. by Mary Kubica. Psychological thriller.
My last 3 before this were The Huntress, Malibu Rising, and The Four Winds, all of which I enjoyed.

I just finished The Last Chance Library by Freya Sampson. Sometimes I feel like authors write books set in/about libraries/bookstores are a bit pandering to readers because, duh, we're the audience. But this was a sweet story about a group of misfits trying to save their local library (and is the story of their friendships along the way). Main character is the library assistance (daughter of the librarian) and the romance was barely there (I wanted more).

I just binge watched Big Little Lies and really liked it, though not sure about season 2 (and why was Shailene’s hair so awful in season 2??). I have not read Liane Moriarty before- is it worth going back to read the book?

Minerva I loved when a scot ties the knot too! Have you read my dearest enemy by Connie brockway? fatpony Have you tried Cecilia Grant yet? I tried the first Cecilia Grant yesterday and I really didn't like the narrator. It sounded like she was doing a Russian/Italian combo accent instead of aristocratic English. It drove me bananas.

The series was good but it seems like nobody liked the book (myself included)

I am currently reading the time traveler's guide to medieval England. It's fun! Historical but light and funny.
Next on my list is a book about hide tanning.

I just started the Apples Never Fall book by Liane Koriarty and it feels back to normal for her.
As for reading Big Little Lies, I felt like the show left out a lot of information that helped bring out the story better. When I watched, I was constantly giving more backstory to my H about motives, background, etc. You may not be surprised but it is worth it to get the bigger story.
Although, now that I think of it, the entire second season was not based on the book. So if you are aware it never goes pat the events in season 1, it could be good.

I just read a (fictional) book about cloning, immortality, politics, etc. It was a bit suspense-y and I didn't know who was pulling the strings until the end. It's called Constance and seeing as I'm still thinking about it, I recommend it!

Favorites I've read recently: Such a Fun Age Watching You When No One is Watching People We Meet on Vacation The Last Letter from your Lover I'm currently reading Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell: Young Saffyre Maddox spent three years under the care of renowned child psychologist Roan Fours. When Dr. Fours decides their sessions should end, Saffyre feels abandoned. She begins looking for ways to connect with him, from waiting outside his office to walking through his neighborhood late at night. She soon learns more than she ever wanted to about Roan and his deceptively perfect family life. On a chilly Valentine’s night, Saffyre will disappear, taking any secrets she has learned with her. Owen Pick’s life is falling apart. In his thirties and living in his aunt’s spare bedroom, he has just been suspended from his job as a teacher after accusations of sexual misconduct—accusations he strongly denies. Searching for professional advice online, he is inadvertently sucked into the dark world of incel forums, where he meets a charismatic and mysterious figure. Owen lives across the street from the Fours family. The Fours have a bad feeling about their neighbor; Owen is a bit creepy and suspect and their teenaged daughter swears he followed her home from the train station one night. Could Owen be responsible? What happened to the beautiful missing Saffyre, and does her disappearance truly connect them all? Evocative, vivid, and unputdownable, Lisa Jewell’s latest thriller is another “haunting, atmospheric, stay-up-way-too-late read” (Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author). I finished Invisible Girl last night and, while it was a page turner, I'm not sure I'd recommend it. The resolution was twisty but not in a very satisfying way, and there was a whisper of sympathy for incels that I don't find palatable. I like this author and will continue to read her work, but this particular book didn't leave me with any good feelings.

Goodness.
I picked up a Jane Greene novel thinking it would be a fluffy light break from the murdery thriller I'm also reading and this woman spends 350 pages making me love this couple only to KILL ONE OF THEM.
Dammit!

It’s definitely a good bedtime book. Especially when you hit the sexy parts. Everyone who enjoyed PWMOV should try The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren. Similar vibe. Very fun read.

I just finished The Last Graduate by Naomi Novak. I’ll be looking forward to the 3rd book in the Scholomance series in a year or two. The series is a lot darker than the other stuff I’ve read by her, but in a compelling way. And her female protagonist is complex and interesting.

I love most of the Christina Lauren books I’ve read. There was a Christmas clunker recently but otherwise great. A different author but similar vibe was Evvie Drake Starts Over. Oh, and Apples Never Fall is classic Liane Moriarty. I’m liking it a lot.
