My children are into Harry Potter and vintage warfare, respectively. One provides plenty of purchasing options, despite my reservations about the creator. The other is a betrayal of my pinko liberal ideals, and I blame my father who is also at fault for the train obsession. So.... DD (10): A Hedwig (?) stuffed animal, Hufflepuff phone case, Hufflepuff "stuff." We're also going to redo her room next year, so she can pick out new duvet and sheets to that end. She also wants the next editions in some series she's reading. DS (9): A remote controlled tank, some sort of daunting tome on the crafts of WW II that he has already added to my Amazon list, and a kiwi crate subscription. Bagel, my beloved puppy who I do not have yet, will get all the toys. Because she is already my favorite. Do you know what series? Dd is always looking for new ones Does she still read Baby Sitters Club? DD is kind of over it but I pre-ordered this for her anyways: www.amazon.com/Baby-Sitters-Club-Retro-Set/dp/1338787845/ref=sr_1_6?crid=Q4BN2HF7SSPA&dchild=1&keywords=babysitters+club+collection+set&qid=1632870867&sprefix=babysitters+club+coll%2Caps%2C192&sr=8-6

Does my 5 year old secretly go here? She sat down on the couch after dinner with a big sigh and said “I think it’s probably time to start working on my Christmas list.”

We are going to Universal next year (hopefully…come on vaccine for kids!), so I’m hoping to find some stuff she could use for the trip. She also likes the HP bedding at Pottery Barn Teen, so I’m watching for a sale on it. I have the dark blue quilt, and I love it. Kohl’s has a whole bunch of HP stuffies in the kohl’s cares section, including Hedwig. DD drags hers with her every damn where. Build a bear has HP bears that you can dress for your house and a few animals as well

I got my son some wooden vehicles from Mama Made Them on etsy and a boy Our Generation doll. My daughter asked for the new Grapat Mandalas so I got her all 4 of those (wooden toy thing). She wants some Our generation accessories, maybe one of those rooms scenes.

Where do we fall on Nerf guns? They are one category of toy we don't have yet. Will I be finding nerf darts everywhere for the rest of my life and regret everything? Do they actually cause pain when shot in close proximity? And lastly... Can I give just my kids them? Or do I have to also get one for my husband?

We are not fans of guns, but my DS is allowed nerf guns. Yes, you will find darts everywhere. Yes, you need to get your husband one. They are only allowed in the basement at our house. I don’t know if the darts really hurt because it’s my H’s job to play nerf guns with him:)

Let me put it this way: we are in the middle of a prolonged multi-state move. Toys were among the first things packed. Despite having NONE of our actual nerf guns within 50 miles of us, I have found no less than 5 nerf bullets at various random times in our temporary “home”. But DS loves playing with them. He asked for a Nerf gun 2 years ago, we got small ones for everyone else (grandparents included) and we all took ours out (secretly stashed) while he opened his gift. A huge nerf fight ensued and it is still frequently talked about in our home. Your husband will need a cool one too. Yes they hurt at close range (but not enough to bruise IME)

We don’t do shooting video games but are ok with nerf guns. The bullets do wind up everywhere but don’t really hurt. We usually set up a target shooting situation rather than people shooting

DS (6) - nerf guns and target, 3 in 1 games table (air hockey, pool, table tennis) DD (8) - Real Littles stuff, squishies, silly scents pens, jewelry making kit, oil diffuser kit I’m thinking of getting one Nintendo Switch Lite for them to share. After the above, I am officially out of ideas. talk to me about the Nintendo Switch - is a 5 year old to young for this? I just got my kids one a few weeks ago, and it’s a hit. My daughter is 8 and my son is 5. I finally pulled the trigger because of its versatility. They can play solo or hook it up to the TV. Also it doesn’t require Wi-Fi, so it’s perfect for car trips or long appts. I think it’s appropriateness can best be judged by which games you buy. So far we have Mario and Sonic, and both kids dig it.

I feel like our DD’s would be fast friends if they lived close. DD’s life is crop tops, makeup, nails, skincare…all the things I was oblivious to at 10 almost 11 lol Yep! I spent a ton on lotion and fancy body wash for her The e.l.f. Skincare lines are pretty good, and of course, inexpensive. I personally use the hello hydration line, and love it. K uses the moisturizer as well

DD won't read anything fantasy but she does like history. I wonder if she would actually try Percy Jackson since there is a blend of both.

I actually think that a Nerf gun would open up productive conversations about real vs toy guns and how they are absolutely different. Target shooting sounds great! As does keeping them in the basement, lol.

Some can hurt, but it really depends on the gun and bullet type (the balls are the worst).

I'm ok with responsible gun ownership for other people (not me) but I would not do a toy gun of any type, nerf, water, etc.

My husband also makes the kids (and any adults) wear eye protection if they’re going to play. All the nerf darts go in a huge drawer.
