I’m following this thread for inspiration and really need DS (11) to get me his ask list. So far his only request has been a butterfly knife which is…not going to happen.

I'm ok with responsible gun ownership for other people (not me) but I would not do a toy gun of any type, nerf, water, etc. This is me. DS (4) keeps talking about nerf guns and I refuse. Not in my house buddy. Also I’m so mad at all you people that this thread exists. ITS SEPTEMBER!! But also I did get the chemistry super lab kit someone mentioned earlier so I guess a begrudging thank you.

Where do we fall on Nerf guns? They are one category of toy we don't have yet. Will I be finding nerf darts everywhere for the rest of my life and regret everything? Do they actually cause pain when shot in close proximity? And lastly... Can I give just my kids them? Or do I have to also get one for my husband? We are not fans of guns, but my DS is allowed nerf guns. Yes, you will find darts everywhere. Yes, you need to get your husband one. They are only allowed in the basement at our house. I don’t know if the darts really hurt because it’s my H’s job to play nerf guns with him:) OMFG all the darts. And the cats get them and chew them to smithereens. They drive me bananas!

I’ve been looking at lego sets and I’m torn between a regular block system model or getting a lego Boost robot set which comes with a kids programming app

I have no clue but this thread is giving me some ideas. DS(6): It’s all Star Wars Legos. Star Wars Legos. Star Wars Legos. Message received, kid. DD(5 in Jan): all she talks about is the beeswax candle making kit that she got last year. So I’m trying to find an activity kit like that but not jewelry making. In case you need ideas, I did an arts & crafts monthly subscription from amazon for my DD(7). She loves it! We've also done make your own soaps, make your own bath bombs, string art, paint by numbers, sticker by numbers, sand art, painted rocks, make your own puffy stickers, etc.

For anyone with Nerf reservations because of them being a gun, they also make bows. I know bows also exist in real life, but aren't quite as problematic as guns. If that changes your comfort level in the least, it might be worth looking at.
Even my 15 yo still likes Nerf stuff.

Some can hurt, but it really depends on the gun and bullet type (the balls are the worst).
The balls are the absolute worst to find outside. They are yellow and hide in my grass perfectly. First play im yard and more than half the balls lost. if you play nerf outside buy extra ammo. The boys sold all their nerf collection when youngest hit 16. Except the nerf guns with the balls they both then put on their xmas lists lol

DS1 (7) wants a hoverboard. So that will be his big gift. But I also want to get him something productive/educational as well - what are these programming legos emma? DS2 (5) is so hard. He loves Minecraft and building toys like legos and magnatiles, but we already have so many. MAYBE he will get his own Switch because there are starting to be a lot of fights over it. Maybe the Lite version or will that be too unfair? He loves playing pretend with our old phones. Also loves playing pretend restaurant. I'm all ears for ideas. That Snipe Hunt game looks fun piratecat.

Grandson is only one I'm already thinking of gifts. His other grandparents and greats gave him eleven thousand things for his august 1at bday.
And half of those toys live at my house cause hes always here plus small appt doesnt have room for 11000 toys.
We have the yard so yard toys. He has a swing but maybe a super small slide. Or maybe turn his swim pool, that he's not too fond of anyways, into a sandbox. So then all the sand toys. Wrong season tho. He loves to rake or try with my pooper scoopee short rake. So maybe rake shovel set. Again wrong season. Well Amazon but kinda hate amazon
Also looking for nice little kid table and 2 chairs. 1 chair at his house and table and 1 chair here.
Trying to crochet a red cardigan for him like daniel tiger. But keep miscounting and have to take much out. At this rate never done.

We also have this fort building kit (we got 2 to have enough to make bigger forts). He really likes it too - although he needs a grown-up's help. www.amazon.com/Kids-Fort-Building-Kits-130-Pieces-Creative-Learning-Building-Castles/dp/B0897MNC8J

I'm following for ideas. Right now I'm thinking:
DS (5): Lego Technic set, chess set, some sort of card game
DD1 (3.5): something related to Elsa, Lego dots, colouring/craft supplies
DD2 (will be almost 16 months at Christmas): little people farm? I'm really struggling to come up with ideas for her.
MH: he just started learning to skateboard and bought himself a really used one, so if he's still into it in a month or so I'll get him a new one.

I tried to buy things today in person but there was no one in the whole store that could help me get stuff down from the top top shelf. So I ordered online instead. Lego Boost and Pokémon cards are on their way
