Okay, maybe I am wrong then? This is a pre-school at the Y. So they have pre-k and they offer athletic programs for older children (and adults, etc. obviously) so I wouldn’t consider them stand-alone. But maybe I am wrong? If they don’t have other grades for school purposes, they are considered stand alone Well, damn. Damn, damn. Okay. Thank you so much for correcting yet another person. I am sure it feels endless. 🧡

Although maybe they weren't really sick and their parents are just concerned about a post holiday surge?

DD1 sits a table of 6 kids and three were home sick today I'm waiting for our dashboard to update at 6 today. Allergies are strong here but so is the Covid. Our school never had more than 2 cases at one time last year but now we have 3 show up in one day. And yet some parents still are opting to send their kids mask-free to school. My one kid said half the class goes without.

My kiddo had a runny nose and cough this weekend. I take him for a test tomorrow. I should have scheduled for today, but I couldn't figure out to make it all happen with work meetings and deadlines today. Thankful work at home is now officially permanent.
I will keep him home all week and keep school updated on results. The teacher emails homework, so I will do some fun pandemic at home schooling in addition.
They emailed today with the 1st case in the school but not a close contact to mine.
It was a glorious 3 weeks at least to get a tad caught up on work and life.

Still don’t want a kid home for a week with a runny nose 👎

I'm listening to another NYT podcast from 2019 and this epidemiologist character (it's fiction) just said that people can't spread viruses until they're symptomatic. LOLSOB

My son's day in Target was canceled today because 7 teachers called out sick and we don't have enough subs so his target teacher had to sub for the day.
I'm just waiting for everything to fall apart.

LOLSOB 😡 That is the point at which I peace out from listening/reading. I know it’s fiction but I hate it when authors can’t be bothered to do some basic fact checking on the subject matter they are writing about.

I'm guessing Starbuck meant "day-IN target" meaning the planned day for them going into the school? I, too, have a complete jackwagon autocorrect

I know it’s fiction but I hate it when authors can’t be bothered to do some basic fact checking on the subject matter they are writing about. To be fair to the writers of this podcast, they were mostly talking about asymptomatic transmission of known viruses like ebola. They did, interestingly, acknowledge the risk of zoonotic disease causing a pandemic in the human population.

DD1 sits a table of 6 kids and three were home sick today DD told me that a lot of students were absent today, and asked what absent meant (K). Her school has had 0 cases this year.

DD told me some of her table-mates (they're in groups of 5) have been taking off, pulling down, or playing with their masks. She said she asked them to keep their masks on and one kid said "other people are doing it" 🙄 Her teacher just had a baby last week so hopefully we'll get contact information for the long term sub so I can reach out to her and ask her to keep an eye on it. I'm sure it's not helping DD's sleep anxiety

How many students are in your kids schools? Some of these numbers feel so big to me. (Obviously America has 10x our population and I live in a smaller town too)

DD's elementary school has had more cases in the past 3 weeks than all of last year with 5 reported just yesterday. DD said there were 4 people out sick in her class, too, so it's just the tip of the iceberg. The junior high she will go to next year has reported 67 cases in the past 10 days. There is definitely in school spread happening this year where as last year there was not. Hm, I wonder what changed?!
Again because it always need to be said Abbott can FRO.

(Obviously America has 10x our population and I live in a smaller town too) our district is ~117K DD1's high school has ~3400 kids. DD2's middle school has ~1500 kids. We aren't sending DD3 this year, but our zoned elementary school is ~900 kids. The schools here are HUGE. I like it in non-COVID times because *your* people will be there with that many people. But it is a definite double whammy of a con in a pandemic...in Texas.

There was a news article last night about the "over a dozen" (read, 13) parents that are planning a "school walk out" on Fri at 10am where they're going to pull their kids from school in protest because they "want equal say". In a district of over 8500 kids 🤦♀️ They interviewed the organizer and she said "usually the district was really good about sending out surveys" 🙄
It does make me feel a pinch better that the numbers are so low and appear to be dwindling. I think about 50 showed up for a previous protest about a month ago and to scream at the school board for their last meeting.
