It’s so sad. It makes me worry a lot for my ILs in the Tampa Bay Area, even though they’re vaxxed. And also makes me mad for all the vaxxed people who are experiencing breakthrough cases because prevalence is so high there. Fucking DeSantis. 😞 I know. I have family in Florida that have had breakthrough cases. It sucks.

At the covid testing. We stay in car and they come out. I can't believe the number of people I see with no masks. Like, you're getting a covid test, put on a mask until they tell you to pull it down. Wtf.

How do teachers figure out which student they were within 3’ for more than 15 minutes over the course of the day (I’m assuming they just don’t)? I feel like with younger kids close contact is more likely to happen. They only consider it close contact if they weren't wearing masks so it would only be whobthey sat with at lunch or snack, and the recommendation is to use seating charts for those times to keep track Yes, ours are based on seating charts too.

I’m trying to decide whether to go to my Aunt’s memorial service in southern OR. Strongly leaning towards no. 😞

Yesterday, my 70 year old aunt was told by her Optometrist to take ivermectin preemptively and gave her a photocopied paper of hand written notes and a doctor’s phone number, in the next town over, who will prescribe it. Like what?!!? Thank god my aunt is with it and knows that she now needs a new eye doctor.
Editing to say that she’s in SW Pennsylvania, so definitely not somewhere I’d expect this shit to happen.

Is there an original source to ivermectin being recommended? I am afraid to Google it, so hoping someone remembers off the top of their head.
We have had reports of deaths from its use in my state. Not surprising given the anti-vax or anti-mask movements, but still shocking how easily swayed people can be.

Damnit said kid who was sent to schoo sick yesterday tested positive so now DS1 has to quarantine. How does my kid always end up in quarantines from school. That parent is a grade A asshole. I'm sorry.

I'm sorry. I should have updated. After talking with Ds1 it’s not that kid but the I’m guessing he will be positive when tested. The kid that was sent home sits directly next to the positive kid. I’m just frustrated at 20 months in my kid has been in quarantine 4 times. It’s emotionally exhausting.

We got our results within 20 mins and we're both negative. They also did a antibody test on my daughter since she wasn't vaxxed to see if she had antibodies. Negative there too.

I wonder if they will consider school teachers to be high risk at all. Especially elementary. They are working with an entirely unvaccinated population, after all And, here, they also got their shots early. My kid’s teacher got hers in Feb. Yup, teacher sin NY we're eligible in early January

I feel like with younger kids close contact is more likely to happen. You'd be shocked. My sixth graders get all up in my face all day long. Kids have zero concept of personal space. The amount of times in a day where I put my hands on a kids shoulder and have us both take a step back away from each other is kind of incredible.

So far our school district is counting all kids in a class as a close contact. It’s not written that way in the policy but that’s what they are doing. I don’t know if it will change if it becomes unsustainable. But I’m happy with that handling of it.

I’m trying to decide whether to go to my Aunt’s memorial service in southern OR. Strongly leaning towards no. 😞 I mean, the good news is - it’s sparsely populated compared to what we are used to. So you can socially distance. But there are no covid precautions anymore there. When I was there in May and July it was like covid had never happened. I was ok in May because the rates were low but in July we didn’t do some stuff because of it. And I ended up canceling my trip in August once my cousin showed me the numbers for the county I was heading to.

I think I’ll go up and be with him on that day. Weird pandemic compromise.

Yeah Arizona hit that milestone beginning of July but it was barely a blip. cause you don't hear about AZ as much as you hear about how bad Florida is

I know everyone has a different relationship with memorials/funerals so I understand if it’s really important for you to be there. But in your shoes I would be with the person who also isn’t going to make sure everyone has someone, you know.

My grandma was hoping to be able to test since she is 6 days post exposure but it's impossible to get a test here. She's asymptomatic and vaccinated so they won't test her and the home tests are sold out everywhere. It's definitely a testament to the vaccine working if she doesn't get it, since she was side by side in a vehicle for 2-3 hours with a symptomatic positive person. Maybe this has been addressed by now but can’t she just lie and say she has symptoms and get tested? The “but you’re vaccinated” rule is dumb as shit at this point with delta

At this point by the time she was able to get in for a test and wait for results considering how backed up they are around here she will basically be almost to the end of the 14 days anyway so she's just staying home.

Most of the deaths are in Maricopa county. My county has more deaths than most of the states do. I feel like I shouldn't know that many people who have died, but I've run out of sympathy cards that come in a dozen pkg 3 times now.

They required vaccine and masks at the outdoor event. They also had designated FaceTime people who took the viewers around and showed photo collages, etc. It’s a compromise but felt like something to honor the life.
