I suspect adding to the worker shortage is one of several reasons the Biden administration tried to avoid having to take the steps they took on Thursday. If some industries are already struggling with staffing shortages, and now you say you'll revoke employment eligibility based on vaccination status, that can certainly have unintended consequences. Although making it a mandate for many companies/industries universally would make it harder for those people to get jobs where vaccines aren't required, right?

Well fuck. My dad has covid. He had the j&j shot, but it sounds like his cough and fatigue are really bad.
::pdq:: He’s not in great health from a lifetime of alcoholism (been sober for 10 years now), so I’m worried. He ::likely:: caught it from one of his young factory coworkers who got sick about a week after spending time at the iowa state fair. 😒🥺

My aunt has had covid for 2.5 weeks and isn't really getting better. She has had a bad case even though she was vaccinated. She has a couple pre-existing lung issues that I'm sure are contributing. She is like a second mom to me and I'm kind of freaking out.
She's in FL, so here's a big f**k you to DeSantis.

She's been at home, thankfully. Twice my uncle almost took her to the ER, though.

I am so sorry ldubhawksfan; can you arrange for the antibody treatment for him? Thank you! I hadn’t even thought about that! It’s so hard being the child 2k miles away, so I can try to look it up and see if my brother could take him

This is the disconnect: CDC keeps saying it's safe to have everyone in school because of the mitigation measures they laid out. Buuuuuuut the schools aren't adhering to the mitigation measures..... 'But how many districts are actually implementing such approaches is an open question. A Washington Post survey of the nation’s 20 largest school districts found that just four are following CDC recommendations to screen asymptomatic students, who can infect others even though they have no symptoms.' Our district isn't doing it. I emailed our superintendent last week about the free money and asking them to implement screening. So far....crickets. BOE meeting is next week so if I don't hear anything by then guess who is gonna be there asking about it. (The impression I'm getting is that our district, and probably others, think it is too much work to do 😡 )

I'm giving our district to the end of the week to announce something because the state was really late in rolling this out and then I'll be contacting them.
