Now DD has a low grade fever. This is literally her first time in school or daycare so I'm not remotely surprised she picked something up. She hopped into my bed MOTN and was a pleghmy stuffy coughing mess all night (plus a hilarious moment when she rolled onto her back, pumped her fists into the air and said, 'Yes! First day of school!!!' while fully asleep LOLLLLL). She's in good spirits but definitely under the weather. I’m sorry she’s sick but that is a really cute anecdote. 😂 I hope she feels better soon. She talks in her sleep all the time, and quite animatedly. She even argues with her brothers in her sleep 😂

It is unbelievably gross that there is a conversation going on right now on TWABC about whether the president taking steps to save the lives and long term health of children was a good political move

dc2london that is disappointing and sums up how divisive this has become in the US specifically over something that has impacted the whole world. A few weeks ago, I reported a few gross comments from higher ups in my department. I haven't heard anything back from it, but they haven't given their opinions again. I don't understand how this can be seen as a political game. Who wins when people die? I wish there was some unifying way to redirect the US to work together.

greykitty I tend to agree. You should not be in Healthcare if you do not believe in science. *PDQ* but this is the specialty I'm in and I'm not surprised many are refusing the vaccine. We are too, and I have several coworkers trying to get exemptions. I'm not sure if they will actually quit if their excemptions are not approved. I am so frustrated with them. *end PDQ* But also, how do you "pause" delivering babies. It's not like an elective procedure you can put off until a later date. Babies are going to be born whether you have the staff or not. Closing to births is just going to make the problem worse for everywhere else.

nelzie, and I did see one comment (yes, I made that mistake) that said this hospital system was already on the downhill trend toward delivering babies and looking for a reason to close that department. Maybe? Other hospital systems have closed departments. My head can almost get around the idea that at least some people have reasonable doubts, of many types, about being vaccinated. But my heart just can't get there. And hospital healthcare workers, especially, for me - is it such denial they can't acknowledge the empirical data they probably see in their very own admissions of unvaccinated COVID patients? But I'm being emotional here too. I do wonder how many people will actually quit their jobs, forfeit unemployment benefits, etc., banking, literally, that mandates will fall apart in the face of their opposition (looking at police and fire departments, teachers, etc etc). I keep hoping it's more like all the folks who, after every election, say they're moving to X, Y, or Z. And never actually go anywhere.

Sounds like Pfizer still on track for 5-11. If I could vaccinate DD before we fly to Iowa for my grandma’s 100th end of Oct, I would cry!

I suspect adding to the worker shortage is one of several reasons the Biden administration tried to avoid having to take the steps they took on Thursday. If some industries are already struggling with staffing shortages, and now you say you'll revoke employment eligibility based on vaccination status, that can certainly have unintended consequences.

The 11YO and I tested positive yesterday. H and the 13YO were negative and I have enough Binax tests to have them test 2 more times each, I just need to figure out the interval.
I am so mad and sad we got sick. I tried so hard to keep us safe while it seems like those around us just sail on through unscathed. I wish I could just fast forward the next 9 days. It all feels so hopeless-we either got it from school (he is one a few that masks) or from a bad decision involving cake and milkshakes made in a desperate attempt to bring something normal back into our lives.
What’s the group think on when I can get him vaccinated post EUA approval?
Sorry I am all over the place here.

I'm sorry, trueblue. I *think* adults who had Covid were told they had to wait 90 days before getting the vaccine. I would assume it would be similar for kids, but I'm not a medical expert by any means.

I would assume it would be similar for kids, but I'm not a medical expert by any means. The 90 days is only if you had gotten monoclonal antibodies as treatment. Otherwise you can be vaccinated as long as you aren't still having symptoms and are out of your quarantine period. We went through this with my husband--he was able to be vaccinated a few weeks after he was diagnosed with covid. Hopefully that helps trueblue!

I got a covid test today just to check. On wed I was outside with a group for a couple of hours. Everyone was vaccinated but just being cautious. Convinced H to tag along because he’s been out and about a bit more with his leadership stuff for the school. We saw another family from our school there doing the same thing. And there was a long line for tests. Made me feel good about our city - at least lots of routine testing going on. DS will spit in the tube for his weekly test on Tuesday.

trueblue, I have seen all over the place as far as vaccines post infection. My sister was turned away from a vaccine because she STILL had pneumonia at 91 days. Yet a coworker’s H got vaccinated on day 11. YMMV - I would ask as soon as things get approved. I hope things stay mild for you both.

I'm sorry trueblue. How are you both feeling? I have that ‘is this allergies or am I coming down with a chest cold (which is where all my colds settle) feeling’ and the 11YO has more traditional cold symptoms-sore throat, congestion, dry cough. No fevers yet for either of us and o2 levels are holding strong.

H and the 13YO had it in January. They are both symptom free and their Binax tests were negative yesterday.

They also recommended 90 days early on when vaccines were scarce because people were shown to have robust natural immunity for at least 90 days post-infection.

I would assume it would be similar for kids, but I'm not a medical expert by any means. That was the case when vaccines when hard to get because you had natural immunity and should step aside to let someone with no immunity get it first. But that is not the case now. You can go it after your isolation and symptoms are done.
