We're expecting the "worst blizzard in decades" to start later today. I'm wondering how it's going to go and if we'll lose power for any length of time. T&P

Thanks guys! We usually get one big snow dump in April but this is extreme. I just heard on the news that schools might close tomorrow for the first snow day in 25 years 😅
The temps aren't going to dip too low so I think we'll be able to stay warm enough even if the power goes out.

I told MH to stop at the store this morning for some canned food and he came back with two cans of Zoodles 🙄

Having no snow days kind of blows my mind. Pretty much any place that gets snow in the US has snow days at some point. So I looked it up and you guys actually get less snow that we do. We average about 75% more snow in a year. But, you guys probably also know how to deal with snow (as opposed to the less snowy places in the US). It's so interesting how different places manage snow in different ways.

I remember as a kid always hoping for a snow day and never getting one. The roads get plowed quickly and everyone just carries on.

I was going to say, don't Zoodles always come in cans? 🤣 But I decided to Google to see if Zoodles means something different and I see it can also mean zucchini noodles. I'm talking about animal-shaped pasta canned in tomato sauce! Cans of zucchini spirals would be even more baffling lol.

And I could not figure out how those could possible be edible in a can. Blech. But zoo-dles as in animal pasta! How cute!! That makes much more sense.

Lmao mintyblueair I, too, thought YH bought you canned spiralized zucchini! Stay warm and safe!! We are expecting tornadoes/hail tonight through tomorrow potentially. But I feel like it usually skirts our immediate area.

I think you guys get less because it's just drier in general and you're not close to large bodies of water. As opposed to, like, being on the ocean like we are XD trade offs though because you guys get colder.

This is our third winter here and it feels like a lot of snow compared to Southern AB, where we were previously. But that's mainly because there's no snow melt during the winter so it just accumulates for months. And this year we've had a lot more than average.

According to google you guys get roughly 50 inches of snow per winter and we get about 90. And an average winter here has one or two storms of about 1.5 feet and no one blinks at anything under 8 inches. But we do get random melt throughout the winter. We maybe have, at most, a couple feet of snow on the ground at any given time (we're only at 200 ft of elevation). Your winter seems to go on forever and it looks way colder than ours.

Winter truly feels never-ending here. We've had snow on the ground since November 1. And it's not going to get above freezing until next Wednesday 😭

Another gripe: we owe taxes this year for the first time ever. I waited until yesterday to file because I was trying to figure out why we owe. I still don't understand and I'm annoyed.

Ours was due to the child tax credit prepayments. Yes we got more, but the prepayments bumped us into owing a portion. Sometimes I hate being dual income for tax reasons.

If you turbo tax, you should be able to compare your filing from last year.
May have been doing that last night around 9:30.

As an average for the province we get 130" of snow for the year lol. Less here in the city because of microclimate and the fact that we're pretty far south, but I know we've gotten that or more in some years.

MH did get parental leave so I wondered if that affected it, but he was also on parental leave in 2020 and we got a big refund for that year. I'm bamboozled.

We got really lucky on taxes this year. Because of a change in how we do the accounting for the business our income looks lower this year. It's something that would normally balance out with other years and be NBD. But this year it bumped our income low enough to qualify for the the full child tax credit (which we only expected to get part of). So we ended up with a big enough refund to replace the last of our old windows. We're super excited for it and called the window folks. They're booking a year out...

I got a sizable refund this year. Hooray for head of household claiming 3 kids independently. I also deferred all the child tax payments so my exH wouldn't get half.

Normally parental leave brings your income lower. I know because I was on mat/parental for most of 2021 it actually pushed us low enough that we got CWB for the first time in years. I'd definitely be looking over everything with a fine tooth comb.
