We also started talking with the school district to see if we should register F for kindergarten next year.
She’s a late September baby, but she seems to be catching on to things quickly. And we only started this because her daycare teacher inquired if we were sending her in the fall.
I’m so back and forth on this.

C has a September birthday and I won't think twice about having her start K the fall she turns 5. But here the cutoff for K is December 31, and it's also not common here to hold kids back for K, so take that with a grain of salt.

When they were babies, I was convinced we'd do an "early K" program to hold them back a year. But, they turned 5 at the end of August and at the advice of the preschool teachers, we sent them to Kindergarten. In NY, our cut off is December 1st, so there's such a wide range of ages in their class. We are incredibly happy we've sent them. Their kindergarten teachers have no concerns, they fit right in, and they are LOVING school.

I am pretty confident M has the flu, but haven't taken her in. She has every single flu symptom and apparently it is ripping through the schools here. She started with symptoms Tues night and they are just progressively getting worse. I rapid tested her both yesterday morning & this morning, so I am ruling out Covid. We leave for vacation on the 17th so I really hope if we all end up getting the flu, the symptoms start quickly so we can be done and recovered by then.
If she has the flu I will definitely get it, right? She basically slept breathing into my mouth half of Tuesday night, and I'm not "distancing" from her because she is my baby and she is sick. I just wash my hands approximately every 5 seconds. And keep moving the air purifier around her as she moves from place to place.

My sneak peek test was inconclusive. So annoying! They're sending out a new one. It kind of sounds like the blood clotted, which I kind of thought it might because I think some of the anti clotting fluid got dumped out accidentally. Just gotta wait a bit longer!

We are pretty much relying on her daycare teachers for a recommendation and waiting on the school to call us back for an interview. I trust everyone who has watched her to assess whether she is ready. I clearly am not ready for my baby to go to school.

I hope wherever it is passes quickly so you can enjoy your vacation! I would assume you’d get it but who knows with anything at this point. Maybe you never will.

There's a house for sale near us that I reallllly want. But MH would go from being able to walk to work to driving ten minutes and apparently that's too far for him. It also backs directly onto the river and that probably is dangerous with the kids being so little. But it's an amazing house.
I'm not desperate to move but whenever there's a house with 4 bedrooms on the main floor I want it. I have no idea how to buy a house while at the same time selling quickly. I don't want to just list ours now because I'm very picky and there's no guarantee we'd actually get the house we want.

Love that for you mintyblueairIdk if y’all could maybe make an offer (if you wanted to) with the contingency of selling your current house prior to closing?? It does sound stressful thinking about that scenario!

It does sound stressful thinking about that scenario! I'm going to see if we can see it today or over the weekend. We haven't even talked to our bank about porting our mortgage and how to do that/if we even qualify for more. Also, our bathroom reno isn't quite finished... It's going to be finished in a couple of weeks but I don't think we can list our house until that happens. I'm kind of hoping I don't like it when I see it in person so I can let this dream go lol.

If I can sell a house without a functional septic system, I'm sure you can sell/list one mid bathroom renovation 😆

We drove by this morning. The house is very close to the river and it's an odd street, it's actually an alley and the front of the houses all face the river. There is very little actual yard, and then my husband googled the area to see if there is a history of flooding... and there's an article from 2012 about how the houses on that particular street are in danger of falling into the river due to riverbed erosion. There was some info about ideas proposed by the city to stabilize the bank but the residents couldn't agree to foot the bill. There was no update in the news but MH convinced me that it's probably not the best investment. It's also really close to a major, loud road.
There's a house one block over that I looove. It's not for sale but I've been debating putting a letter in their mailbox asking them to let me know if they ever decide to sell. There's literally nothing in our specific neighbourhood for sale right now, so I'll just have to wait and see 🤷♀️

Here is my future plug for the Accomplishments thread. I just finished registering and buying my textbook to go back to school on-line for my bachelor's degree in nursing. I'm excited for this next phase while kicking myself that I didn't do it pre-kids and/or when my work would've given tuition reimbursement. Oh well, better late than never!

I’m proud of you DGM!! You’ve got this. We will be cheering you on. Thanks, the school is in your neck of the woods. UT Arlington. My BFF from nursing school did the program last year and told me it will not get easier as my kids get older (my excuse for the last 5 years). That gave me the swift kick I needed LOL.

Amazing DGM! I considered nursing as an undergrad but eventually decided to go the grad school way... and I've always kind of regretted it. I still sometimes think I should abandon my plans and do nursing instead. Anyway, good for you and I'm sure you'll do great!

Well, looking for houses just got even more complicated. Not only did our price affordability go down thanks to rising interest rates, but the girls both just said they don't want to switch schools. I told R she'll make friends wherever she goes, and A piped in and said "but I don't make friends really easily, and I have a few friends now" 😭😭
So now my heart can't make her move schools

We are in the same boat here with the bid coming in so high. So we are now frantically looking at homes and waiting for our contractor to tell us if we can cut things and hope prices fall in a year or two.

Well, now we are considering moving back to the East Coast. It's so hard to think through it all. I don't know what I want. I love it here. I love our kids' school district. I finally have what feels like an established business... But, our community is not the same (lots of people have moved in the last year), we don't have the support system we used to (even though we operate well as a little unit), I miss our old friends, and the real estate market here is basically the same as California's. We could sell and buy so much more in VA and be right in between families to the North and South.
We have a lot to think about

One of my 7th grade students told me in front of the class that I’m “old as hell.” They’re so cute at this age.

We're expecting the "worst blizzard in decades" to start later today. I'm wondering how it's going to go and if we'll lose power for any length of time.
