I'm at the airport headed home from Hood to Coast!
It was as described: insane, fun, and very hard! Our team had 2 vans with 12 people. Van 1 started first, so we started running on Friday at about 8:30 am. My last leg was a little over 6 miles along a beautiful trail with great views and I had a great time for me - 9'16"/mile!
We headed back to my cousin's house to get some lunch while the other team ran and then our legs started as the sun was starting to set. I was 6th in my group so it was fully dark when I started to run - about 10:30. About a mile in I got "startled" by a car coming behind me and I lost my footing and fell, twisting my left ankle and skinning my knee (although I had leggings on because it was FREEZING). I walked on it gingerly for a bit and then kept running, about a 10'14" pace. I think I was also distracted because I put my watch on the wrong mode and wasn't carefully looking at the pavement through my headlamp. There were some dips in the road so I just got unlucky when I got startled.
The other group started running, so we headed to our next stop to get a whopping 3 hours of sleep before we had to run again. 2 of us slept in the van, and the others brought stuff to sleep out in a designated sleeping field. I think the runs right after that were probably the worst, because we had to get up at 4:00 and start getting ready.
My cousin taped my ankle and I was thinking about running but decided not to. I'm very glad because my ankle has swollen the fuck up and it looks pretty bad right now. I don't think anything is broken or fractured, but I definitely won't be running for a good couple of months. My same cousin, who knocked out the run after the 4:00 am wakeup, also picked up my last leg.
We all ended in Seaside and hung out on the beach for a few hours. There was a band, food, drinks, and gorgeous beach weather. Honestly we really lucked out with the weather. It was cloudy through most of our first runs and it stayed below 70 degrees the entire race.
I'm bummed I didn't finish but I'm still thrilled with the experience we all had. We used my cousin's van and had a great selection of food and snacks with us, although I don't think I can eat another Honey Stinger waffle for awhile 😂
We are all pretty exhausted. I didn't really stretch after my second run so my legs are sore but mainly I'm tired because I only got about 3 hours of sleep in a 36-hour stretch.
I was so impressed by the race organization. Everything was incredibly well-run, and every local team also has to have 3 volunteers. No shortage of people helping us where we needed to go. I was worried about getting lost as well but the course was really well marked so that wasn't a worry either.
Looking forward to going to bed at 8:00 tonight! Also glad I hurt my left foot instead of my right so I can drive home!

Oh I love it! I think everyone should have one. I work on my calves and quads after a long run and it really helps with soreness. I’ve only tried one, and it left me pretty bruised, but I’m looking at them again. What brand do you use? I have this one, but also I think percussion massage isn't a good fit for everyone. If you slow the speed you don't get the benefit as much, but it still feels good. You'd definitely want to use the softer tip (the foam ball). www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089CVPLS3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Wow! We just got our race results and 39/228 on our division! Average pace of 8:43. I was definitely the slow person on our team, LOL.

I'm sorry about your ankle, beatch, but it sounds like overall a really fun time! Are you glad you did it? Would you do it again? 29/228 is impressive!

I'm sorry about your ankle, beatch, but it sounds like overall a really fun time! Are you glad you did it? Would you do it again? 29/228 is impressive! Yes I think so! I mean that seems like an insane statement given I just got wheeled to my gate 🙃 but it was such a motivating and unique experience. We were a very "team spirit" team and nearly all went to the exchange points to cheer for each other. It's not restful, obviously, but such a fun event. You feel you went through fire at the end! I never considered running in the dark prior to my run. That was my first time running with a headlamp in the cold and I should have gotten my own headlamp and done a few runs like that in advance to feel more confident. I'm bummed I didn't finish because my legs felt good after my first run and I was thrilled with my pace. I felt pretty prepared with the Run with Hal training. Turns out my hilly, hot neighborhood was great for training!

15 miles done! This felt really good overall, which was a relief after the disaster of last weekend's runs. It was hot and muggy so I'm glad I went with a route with water fountains. I refilled both of my vest bladders along the way and finished all 64oz of water. Made a huge difference for sure.

Congratulations beatch! I'm sorry about your ankle, but I'm glad you had an amazing time! I've done Seneca7 which is like a Ragnar lite twice now and I love the relay aspect, team in a van together concept. It is so, so fun! We should do a HIH team Ragnar. There's plenty of us runners here. Maybe after covid stops being a dick.

Today is my rest day, so no physical therapy. I got more than 12 hrs of sleep last night, so that was awesome. And I have meditated and foam rolled.

My back is fucked, again. Same spot. So I'll definitely be taking this next week off working out. I guess I need to see someone about it. 😓

Yard work yesterday was intense. I am reminded why I hate it so much. But it was a good workout too.
I’m super sore from my leg day plus yard work and I need to really stretch good today. I took a leisurely 2 mile walk with the family earlier but otherwise just a rest day here.

Thanks. This is the third time I've extra aggravated the same spot/area in less than a year. So annoying.

Looks like the new Irish guy is going to be doing tread boot camps. Ok I'm getting really antsy about holding out for the Tread+ when we can just order a Tread tomorrow!

I started Week 5 of the You Can Run program today, a 30 minute run with Wilpers focused on form, and tried to jog in the walk intervals. This is the first week that the classes are actual running classes, and not walking! Afterwards I cooled down with an outdoor walk with Andy, but jogged about half of it. I went out and back on the multi-use path and ended up with about 4.35 miles and a cute running shorts tan line!

Friday was 10 min core w/ Rad, 10 min arms & shoulders w/ Adrian, 10 min chest & back w/ Ben & a 20 min pop punk ride w/ Bradley. This was my first class with Bradley and he’s the worst. I couldn’t stand him 🤦♀️ Yesterday got in a 45 min bike bootcamp with Tunde and today was 30 min power yoga w/ Kristen. My whole body is really sore so I might try to get in a stretch before bed.

Today was a recovery day. I did 40 minutes of yoga with Ross. It was mostly floor poses, which I love.
We leave for Maine again on Tuesday for the last time this year. So I’ll be off again for most of the week. But when we get back, the kids go back to school and I’ll be able to workout alone again!

beatch awesome job! That whole thing sounds exhausting but incredibly fun and an awesome experience. And your times were great! I am slower than you, so while your group people were faster, that's super impressive to me! Sorry you got hurt, I'm glad you didn't push yourself past that and hope you heal quickly.

Sorry about your back goldenbird! I also have back issues and you don’t realize how bad it sucks until it happens. I got an infection and was rendered useless from exercise for a while. I am in Vancouver until tomorrow, so I am closing all my rings with all the walking. Although right now, I am laying in bed trying to decide what to order for dinner. 2 nights in a hotel alone, I can’t complain!

Everyone says that Bradley guy is terrible - what does he do that’s so bad? Terrible voice? I haven’t taken any of his classes but I guess I’ll continue to just stick with my favourites?

He's not *that* bad, he just tries way too hard and it's so obvious he's trying to pour on the charm....it's very cringey and distracting. To me. But I still take his rides every once in a while if he has a playlist I really like, it's not like he's so bad I will never ever ride with him.
